Welcome to Wellness The Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome you to our fifth annual Health & Wellness Expo. Our purpose is to promote the health and well being of all in the greater Port Jefferson area. The Health & Wellness (H&W) committee has worked very hard this year to offer you the very best information to help you plan for and meet your health and wellness needs. As in prior years, our theme for this year continues to be “Healthy Living, It’s Your Choice” and we hope this will become your theme.

H&W EXPO 2014 is again being held at the Earl L. Vandermuelen High/Middle School, and we are most grateful for their hospitality.

The school offers a large space for our exhibitors and visitors, plus a large amount of convenient parking is available.

This year the Expo has partnered up with the Port Jefferson Royal Educational Foundation with a ‘Power of One Family Fun Run’. A 2k walk/ run that finishes at the high school with their participants invited into

the Expo for a special preview of our health exhibitors. To keep with a family theme the Expo has created a vendor-game for all attendees. Winners can receive FREE movie tickets and be eligible for a ‘Healthy Family Entertainment’ basket.

The Port Jeff Chamber has brought together a large number of health and wellness professionals to offer our visitors the latest information for all stages of life including prebirth, childhood, adulthood and elder years. In addition to exhibitors from traditional medical fields, there will also be specialists in the areas of physical fitness, nutrition and holistic medicine. The exhibitors will focus on prevention, early detection and treatment measures and techniques.

The Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce’s Expo Committee is keenly aware of the health concerns that affect today’s children. The Committee thought it would be important to somehow include the students of the Port Jefferson School District in the event, and when they proposed a “How Do You Live a Healthy Life?” contest, the School District agreed.

The elementary school students were assigned to design a poster, and the middle and high school health classes were assigned to write an essay to describe how they choose to live a healthy life. One first place winner from each grade will be announced at the Expo. Each will be presented with a gift card donated by Bethpage Federal Credit Union and the Chamber.

Second and third place awards will also be given. All winning students will be presented with a Gift Subscription to The Port Times Record, and an award certificate.

All winning poster and essay entries will be on display in the lobby of the high school on the day of the Expo.
