Throughout Huntington Town, men and women of all ages gathered on Sunday morning to honor U.S. military veterans at the Veterans Day Ceremony in Veterans Plaza at Town Hall. William Ober, a member of the Huntington Veterans’ Advisory Board and a member of the Huntington Detachment Marine Corps League #792, chaired the ceremony, which included veterans from the U.S. Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force. This year was especially important because the presentation

of wreaths at the World War I Flagpole, led by Fred Amore, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9263, celebrated the 240th anniversary of the Marine Corps, Army and Navy, and the 225th anniversary of the Coast Guard. Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone (D) introduced town councilpeople and officials in attendance. He also recognized the Kiwanis Club of Huntington’s Field of Honor in front of the Town Hall, stating, “These flags are what we celebrate.” The Long Island Children’s Choir sang The Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America.
