Brooke Sulcer Interior & Graphic Designer
A bit about me – Hi! My name is Brooke and I am an interior and graphic designer based in St. Louis. I have a passion for design that stems from a long life of artisitic expression. I hopes to communicate this love of design through cohesive, inspiring spaces that draw people in. My love of typography and graphics have helped to push my projects to another level of design development. I experiment with various concepts to uncover connections between the seemingly mundane aspects of everyday life and connect them in an impactful way towards the world of design.

SPARKED EARLY EDUCATION CENTER Early Education
Fall 2020 | Studio V | 7 weeks Revit | Enscape | Photoshop
Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun”. That statement drove the concept of Sparked, and early education center. The school is located in Maplewood, St. Louis, Missouri. We were challeneged to create a space for young children, ages 3-5, that also included an outdoor playground element. My space was inspired by the creativity and freedom children have in their scribble drawings. Through color, space planning, and functionality, each space creates opportunity for growth and exploration. Covid-19 considerations were also taken into account, but we were mindful of the fact that this will not be life forever in our design. The solution was flexible furniture and larger spaces.
CORRIDOR
One of the first ways a child can express their feelings is through art. My concept takes this creative thinking process and freedom in the forms of their learning spaces. A “blank canvas” creates space for pops of color inspired by a child’s scribbles.
Neutral, light, happy colors help children feel calm in their classrooms.
Locked and monitored entrances and doors control who comes in and out of certain spaces.
Mobile furniture allows for safe social distancing when necessary.
Safe spaces allow children with anxiety or Autism to feel safe. ADA considerations were considered

NEXT ATLANTA Corporate Office
Fall 2020 | Studio V | 8 weeks | 2020 Steelcase Next Competition Entry | 11,000 SQFT Revit | Enscape | Photoshop
Steelcase challenged students with helping to create a new satelite office for the wellness company NEXT. NEXT is a global technology company specializing in all aspects of health and wellness to improve the general happiness of people all over the world. NEXT will be opening their first of many planned satellite offices in Atlanta, GA. They want to make sure that their new environment supports the way they work and how they might work in the future, considering adjustments promoting health and safety in the workplace Post-Pandemic. My version of NEXT draws inspiration from murmurations. A murmuration represents a team of many individuals coming together to create something beautiful. Some can separate off, but they are all still striving for the same goal. This beautiful dance of nature causes you to pause and take a break, much like the company of NEXT.

SCOTTSDALE GASTROENTEROLOGY Digestive Health Clinic
Spring 2020 | Studio IV | 5 weeks | 2020 IIDA Student Competition Entry Revit | Enscape | Photoshop
IIDA challenged students with creating a fictitious physician’s group that specializes in gastroenterology located in Scottsdale, Arizona. This clinic will specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating digestive and liver disorders such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis, and cirrhosis. The clinic goal is to advance the delivery of care for patients suffering from all digestive health conditions. Scottsdale Gastroenterology is a clinic reimagining the average healthcare experience. The space draws inspiration from the ripples that naturally form on the windward side of sand dunes. With warm colors and wooden planks spread throughout the area, the experience is one of a day spa rather than a medical facility. The merging of hospitality like ameninites and new and developing technologies cultivates a space that is holistic and cutting edge in the ever-changing healthcare industry.

COZY CONE Product Design
Fall 2019 | Detailing | 5 weeks | Class Winner AutoCAD | Sketchup | Enscape | Photoshop
“38% of employees wish they had more access to private spaces for acoustic and visual privacy”(Steelcase). With the trend of the open office not slowing down anytime soon, how can we create a piece of furniture that can give you the feeling of seclusion in an open space? The chair should offer a cozy spot for someone to sit in and take a quick phone call, read some emails, or just take a mental break from the noise. Sitting in it, it should feel like an escape and bring feelings of comfort and closeness to the user. Putting the problem and the concept together, the solution was for a elongated cone shape. The narrowing cone shape creates a funnel for the noise to come out of. As the sound travels upwards into the tighter space, it bounces off the sides more and more, allowing for the majority of that sound to be absorbed into the chair. The tall walls help further the idea of the cozy cone, by creating a tight niche for someone to sit in. My design won our studio competition, chosen by a former Kimball furniture designer. It is currently being 3D printed and upholstered with help from our fab technician to one day sit in our University’s entry space.

INTERNSHIP CONTRIBUTIONS Trivers Architects
Summer - Fall 2020 Revit | Photoshop
“In 1975, Trivers was founded on values that still characterize the firm today: creating architecture of lasting positive consequence.” Today Trivers works for a wide range of clients across the country from government and civic to education and business. I have been fortunate enough to get to intern at this firm during my senior year and be able to develop my skills far beyond the classroom. I have been invloved in all stages of the design process, but I have mostly worked on construction documents and client presentations.

Nonprofit Headquarters and Temporary Housing Corporate & Multi-family Completed with: Trivers, 2020 Project Under Construction
“DOORWAYS is the only organization in the Saint Louis area whose sole mission is to provide affordable, secure housing and related services for people living with HIV/AIDS. This mission is based on research that demonstrates that stable housing is the primary requisite for the most effective and compassionate treatment, management and prevention of HIV/AIDS.” I was brought on to this project towards the end of DD and worked throughout all of CD. My duties for this project included creating client presentations and assisting on all elements of the interior construction document set.
