RESOLUTION NO. _____ A RESOLUTION
introduced by Deputy Mayor Michelle De La Isla concerning the designation of an Interim City Manager.
WHEREAS, James H. Colson has resigned from the position of City Manager

effective October 7, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. and the Governing Body has not selected a
8
permanent City Manager; and

WHEREAS, the City Manager is responsible for administering the affairs of the City
10
by signing checks, entering into contracts and performing other duties set forth in the
11
Topeka Municipal Code; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to appoint an Interim City Manager to continue
13
administering the affairs of the City until such time as the Governing Body appoints a
14
permanent City Manager; and

WHEREAS, TMC A2-51 and A2-53 authorize the Governing Body to appoint a City Manager who serves at the pleasure of the Governing Body.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
18
TOPEKA, KANSAS, hereby authorizes Douglas Gerber to serve as Interim City Manager
19
beginning October 7, 2016, at 5:01 p.m. Mr. Gerber will serve at the pleasure of the
20
Governing Body or until such time as a permanent City Manager in employed. Mr. Gerber
21
will continue to perform the duties of Deputy City Manager during this period of time and
22
will be compensated between the Min and Mid annual salary range established for Level
23
15 of the Management and Executive pay plan, as negotiated and agreed upon.
