Winter Weather Briefing Key Points…Potential Ice Storm

 Expected Weather: Light Freezing rain/drizzle will develop across southeast Kansas Friday morning with widespread freezing rain expected to impact all areas Saturday through Sunday.  Ice Amounts: Most areas .50” to upwards of 1” of ice accumulation by 6pm Sunday  Winds: NNE Winds 5 to 12 mph through the entire event  Timing: Onset Friday southeast of I-35 but worst will occur Saturday through Sunday. Winter Weather Briefing Forecast Confidence

 High: All areas will see freezing rain from this event with most spots receiving .50” to 1”. This is going to occur.  Low: How fast do air temperatures rise to above freezing on Sunday and Sunday night? This will have a huge impact on whether some areas especially north of I-70 could see additional heavy ice accumulations Low confidence at this time.

 Potential for damage to trees/powerlines from heavy ice accumulations of .50 to 1”.  At least scattered to perhaps numerous power outages. Extremely hazardous travel conditions especially on bridges/overpasses any untreated roadways.
