After waiting several months to find a pandemic-safe date for the Shrimp Boil, the Texas City-La Marque Chamber’s event planning committee has determined the best option at this time is to wait until 2021. “Shrimp Boil and Dance is a community celebration with long history and success, but with safety and concern for attendees and volunteers in mind, we will move forward to 2021 and have a true celebration,” said Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce President Jenny Senter. “Everyone has a great time visiting with friends, neighbors and business contacts, and I know that next year will be a Shrimp Boil to remember.” The auction is a very important fundraiser for the chamber each year. It’s also a huge promotional opportunity for members, and many have donated items for several years in a row. “Local businesses know that the exposure they get from the chamber auction is extremely cost-effective,” said incoming president Page Michel. “It has been a challenging year, but we hope all members will consider supporting the auc-

tion by donating merchandise, gift certificates or special services.” In return for contributions to the auction, members will receive big-time publicity! The auction this year will be 100 percent virtual. It will be hosted online, and it will reach a world-wide audience. Supporting the auction helps the chamber produce programs and events that foster economic development, promote tourism and improve the quality of life for the community. Stay tuned to the chamber’s weekly emails and the next issue of Chamber Express to find out all the details about the 2020 Online Auction. To have details sent directly to you, send an email to info@texascitychamber.com and all of the auction information will be emailed back to you, including launch date, closing date and unique items you won’t want to miss. Bidding will be open for more than a week before the auction closes. An auction donation form will be emailed to all members, and it is available on the Chamber website under “Events” and “2020 online auction.”

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH Family Practice Temporary location 14025 Delany Rd. La Marque, Texas, 77568

Coming to La Marque Crossing (the corner of I-45 and FM 1765) this Thanksgiving, Family Practice is opening a 5,000-squarefoot medical office focused on expanding healthcare access to every resident of La Marque and surrounding towns. The business’ experienced physician of 28 years has the knowledge and expertise to provide compassionate care at every level of clients’ healthcare journeys. Family Practice is proud to announce that the business will be the pioneers of Galveston County and beyond, separately engineering well and sick entrances and exits. Clients no longer will have to worry about the exposure

of infectious diseases when they go to the doctor for a routine visit or chronic care management. All the sick areas will have dedicated staff, air conditioning and isolation protocols, while the non-infectious sections will allow for expedited check-in and check-out via technology. Family Practice will offer expanded services such as IV hydration therapy, sports physicals for youth and automated immunizations via a direct vaccine distributor’s partnership. Through a partnership with the DEXA scan, the facility will have an on-site bone density and obesity scanner. The DEXA will allow the weight loss program to have actual body

composition imaging to mirror the diet and medication program. The bone density scanner will help the aging population with early diagnosis of bone disease. Family Practice will continue to offer home delivery of vitamins and supplements through a direct discount program. Most patients save 20 percent to 30 percent off the retail price for essential life vitamins that are not currently in people’s modern diet. For the chronic care and elderly population, Family Practice has several relationships with home health agencies that report directly back to the clinic to maintain care continuity. The staff is dedicated to their chronic care patients,

Future location 6608 Gulf Freeway, Suite 100 La Marque, Texas, 77568

including diabetes management, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and many other chronic conditions. The facility uses the latest drug and treatment programs’ research and tools to ensure patients can stay healthy with the least medications possible. Currently, Family Practice is operating in a temporary location in Gulfway Plaza, located on Delaney Road in La Marque. The business can handle testing for COVID-19 and still see patients without delay, but look forward to the new location’s convenience of independent entrance. Schedule a visit by calling the office at 409655-2770.

Visiting Angels

10000 Emmett F. Lowry Expy. Suite 4000 - Unit 200D #8 Texas City, TX 77591 409-489-4501 jbasciano@visitingangels.com Jennifer Basciano, owner Tell us a little about your company’s background. Visiting Angels has been providing compassionate elder care services to families across the United States. Our network of elder care franchised agencies is committed to providing families with the best possible inhome care services. Our commitment to you is simple: We will help your loved one continue to live at home, and we’ll help you find peace of mind. Visiting Angels in Texas City has been serving Galveston County for 2 years. I bought the business to enable the elderly to remain independent in their homes. I wanted to give them an option besides going to a nursing home.

How would you summarize what you do? Visiting Angels is licensed by the state of Texas to provide non-medical in-home care and help with activities like: bathing, dressing, medication reminders, light housekeeping, laundry, errands, and meal planning and preparation. At Visiting Angels, we understand you want top quality senior home care services for your loved one. You’re searching for a qualified, professional elder care provider who will treat your family member with respect and dignity. We can help you find the senior home care provider that meets all your needs. Our senior home care providers are professionals with the training and skills you have been searching for. We’ll match you with a senior home care provider who will care for all your loved one’s health and well-being needs.

How has your business evolved over time?

What are some of your proudest accomplishments?

My Visiting Angels agency was the first to service Galveston county. In 2 years we have grown to produce over $300k in sales and we work with clients from Alvin to Galveston island. Seniors throughout the area can get started with elderly care by contacting Visiting Angels Galveston and booking a no-cost consultation. Our knowledgeable care coordinator will meet with your loved one at home to discuss their needs. During your meeting you can get answers to all your care questions and help to create a customized plan to meet your loved one’s needs. Our services are flexible so your loved one will be able to make changes over time if needed.

My proudest accomplishment would be the over 100 clients we have served in 2 years. These are people who would have otherwise had to go to a nursing home if it were not for our help. Instead they aged peacefully in their home where they were most comfortable. I am also proud of our Google reviews and the many letters of recommendation we receive.

What are you working on now? We are rapidly growing to service more clients and we are always hiring qualified caregivers.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEMBERSHIP = A GREAT BUSINESS INVESTMENT The great economic engine that is Texas keeps churning every day and, because of the businesses that fuel it, we as Texans enjoy great communities to live, work and play. One key component in that engine is a chamber of commerce. The work of the chamber helps support and create an environment in which businesses can thrive. Beyond the work of the chamber in the community, however, there are incredible direct benefits for businesses. The Atlanta-based research firm Schapiro Group surveyed 2,000 Americans and found that chamber membership causes consumers to see a business in a more positive light and increases the likelihood that they will shop or purchase services from a chamber member businesses. Although

figures vary slightly among the size of organization and industry sector, the results show that businesses that are chamber members garner greater consumer credibility, trust and loyalty than those that are not affiliated with a chamber of commerce. Further, the study found that the greater the level of involvement of the company in the local chamber (i.e. serving on the board, sponsoring events, etc.) the greater the benefits. A company that is highly involved with its local chamber sees that consumers are 10 percent more likely to think its products stack up better against its competition, and 19 percent more likely to think favorably of the company in general. The Schapiro Group study revealed a distinct correlation between chamber membership and a compa-

ny’s bottom line. Whether in patronage frequency, favorability or purchase intent, consumer tendencies lean heavily toward involved chamber members. Small business is the backbone of America and the bulk of chamber membership. The results for this segment are particularly striking. If a person knows that a small business is a member of the local chamber, the business will see a 49 percent increase in consumer favorability ratings, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, and 80 percent increase in the likelihood of patronage. There are two keys to receiving the benefits of chamber membership. First, a business has to be a member. Second, businesses must work internally and with the chamber to make consumers aware of their affiliation. This means be active, be visible and

proudly display your membership in the chamber of commerce. Businesses large and small are always on the watch to ensure they are investing wisely and engaging in activities that are productive and yield a good return. Membership in the chamber of com-

merce is not a luxury item; it is an absolute necessity for all businesses seeking to navigate the highly competitive marketplace and sometimes difficult economic waters. Chamber membership gives business a competitive edge. Texas has some of the best chambers of

commerce in the nation. During Chamber Week (Oct. 19 – 23), send a message of support to your chamber and get involved to ensure your future success. — Aaron Cox, CEO of Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives
