Community-wide Shrimp Boil and Dance — Aug. 12
T
asty Cajun boiled shrimp, jambalaya, corn and potatoes, icy cold drinks and the exciting sounds of live music all will be plentiful at the Texas City-La Marque Chamber’s annual community-wide Shrimp Boil. The Shrimp Boil will start at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12 at Nessler Park in Texas City. Food will be served until 7:30 p.m., and the band will play until way past dark. Young, old and every age in between agrees — the chamber’s Shrimp Boil offers the whole community a night to relax and visit with friends, neighbors and colleagues. This Shrimp Boil is a favorite tradition that has been held for more than 40 years in Texas City, and it draws a crowd of more than 500 people each year. The Shrimp Boil will have live bands performing in the Rotary Pavilion. There is plenty of shade under the trees and picnic tables are set up for you and your group to sit down and
relax. Make this your “end of summer” picnic and enjoy a special evening. Entertainment for the evening is The Line Up band. Most native Galvestonians remember the first time they saw The Line Up, and newcomers will love their sound. Led by founding member Willy Gonzales, The Line Up was formed almost 30 years ago as a five-piece ensemble. “We were all from different bands, it really was an all-star lineup,” Gonzales explained. “That is how we got the name.” Assembled as the house band of Hennessy’s, a popular local nightspot at the time, the band soon began to land gigs outside the club and reverted to a three-piece for performances. “We have been a three-piece band ever since,” Gonzales said. Although band members changed a few times, current bassist Stacy Cook has been with The Line Up since 1996 and Jeff Pennington, lead guitarist, has been with the band for more than 25 years.

With each band member’s unique background and talent, The Line Up is a cross-section of cultures and genres. “There is not one type of music that anyone in this band likes enough to play all the time,” Gonzales said. “We like the stuff that is timeless, and we play it all.” Advance tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the chamber office, Texas First Bank or online. The ticket price includes a one-pound shrimp dinner, jambalaya, corn and potatoes, two beers or soft drinks and live musical entertainment. Hot dog meals will be available for kids for $5, including chips and a cold drink. A special
thanks to the Rotary Club of Texas City for serving the hot dog meals. “We look forward to seeing everyone at the Shrimp Boil,” said Stefanie Aldrich, Chamber Operations & Events Manager. “Bring an appetite, an ear for good music, some dancing shoes, and be ready to have a good time!” For more information about the 2022 Shrimp Boil, sponsorship opportunities or to purchase $30 tickets in advance, contact the Texas City-La Marque Chamber at 409-935-1408 or events@ TCLMchamber.com. Tickets will be sold at the event for $35 per person.
