WOMEN IN BUSINESS

Women in Business are having a powerful year

T

he Women in Business networking group met May 26 and heard from guest speaker Christine Wade from UTMB Health-League City. The theme was “The Power of Self Care!” Prior to Wade’s current role as Administrator at the UTMB League City Campus and Associate Chief Nursing and Patient Care Officer, she has served in multiple roles at UTMB, such as Interim Vice President, Health System Operations and Director of Patient Care Services and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer. In addition to support services, Wade oversees two emergency departments, including a Level I Trauma Center, Level I Burn Center, two medical surgical units, intensive care, periop-

erative services, house supervisors, staffing office and the designated emerging infectious disease biocontainment unit and program — which she created. Wade joined UTMB in 2012 and has spent most of her career managing high-volume trauma centers. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from Columbia University and is enrolled in the doctoral program at University of Texas-Arlington. She is considered an expert in the field of emergency nursing. She is actively involved in extensive domestic and international health care volunteerism and emergency relief. She has worked on more than 14 international medical missions. She has completed a Leadership Fellowship with American Essentials

Hospitals. Wade is also involved with the American Heart Association and is an active board member of the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce. Christine spoke at the luncheon about how she manages career demands and personal wellness. Every woman in attendance was able to share what steps they take to further their self-care needs. The next Women in Business event will be June 16 with the theme “The Power of Participation,” sponsored by Eastman. Featured speakers will be Leslie Ornelas and Pam Schwertner.
