State Legislative Update Business
Luncheon to be held soon
The Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce will host a “State Legislative Update” business luncheon at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City. Stay tuned to the chamber’s social media pages and website for the date and time!
At this informative networking event, attendees will hear from State lawmakers about the 88th Legislative session that runs from January to May.
Every other year for 140 days, the Texas Legislature convenes and considers new laws governing the citizenry and businesses
of Texas. This luncheon is the perfect opportunity for you to hear directly from these elected officials concerning the decisions that were made during this year’s session. Tickets are available for members at $25 per person or a reserved table of 6 for $250.

Celebrate the honorees at Women in Leadership Awards luncheon
To help recognize and honor women who are key to the success of local organizations, the Chamber hosts the “Women in Leadership Awards” (WILA) program. Recipients are selected for their leadership qualities in these areas: Integrity, Passion, Humility, Empathy, Fostering collaboration, Servant leadership, Uplifting and adding value to others. Recipients are also selected in each of the following categories: Education, Large Business, Small Business, Women-Owned Business, Non-Profit/ Volunteer and Young Professional.

LEADERSHIP MAINLAND AT THE STATE CAPITOL
Leadership Mainland spent two days in Austin with 31 outgoing, outstanding community leaders! The Leadership class learned a lot about state-level advocacy and how legislation is done in Texas. The class was able to witness Texas State House hearings and debates. They also took a private tour of the state capitol.
They were able to meet with State Senator Mayes Middleton and State Representative Terri Leo-Wilson. The group also visited the Texas Association of Business where they met with Glenn Hammer, President/ CEO of Texas Association of Business, and Drew Scheberle, Executive Director of Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives.

The Women in Business networking group met April 13 and heard from guest speaker Tammy Cupit, PhD, RN-BC, Director of Nursing Science and Innovation, UTMB Health. The theme was “Engagement Through SelfCare & Mental Health” and was sponsored by UTMB Health.
Thank you to Lunas’ Mexican Restaurant for providing the lunches for this event.
Cupit spoke about the importance of self-care and different ways to manage your personal wellness. She also spoke about the importance of mental health and the topic “imposter syn-

drome” and how to avoid getting stuck in the mindset of being an imposter in your place of work. Attendees were able to share what steps they could take to further their self-care and mental health needs.
The next Women in Business luncheon will be an after-hours event on June 8 at Lago Mar Lagoon where there will be pop-up vendors and great networking opportunities. The June Women in Business luncheon is sponsored by College of the Mainland.

Established in 1993, Tolunay-Wong Engineers, Inc. (TWE) is one of the largest geosciences consulting firms in the Gulf Coast Region. Their thirteen offices are located across Texas and Louisiana.
