E Emergencies

Emergencies

The Campus Police department leads a College-wide effort to ensure a safe environment for all students, employees, and visitors by providing professional law enforcement and security services, community education and outreach, and effective emergency planning and response. We provide services on all campuses and are staffed by Campus Police Officers certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and commissioned by the Governor’s Office.

You are strongly encouraged to leave a copy of your class schedules with relatives so they may be more easily contacted if an emergency arises. The College does not have an intercom communication system linking all classrooms, laboratories or buildings and does not normally provide a student locator service. Campus alerts are communicated via several media outlets. See “Safety and Security” for more information.

In the event of an emergency, contact Campus Police:

• Anderson Campus: 864-260-6718

• Easley Campus: 864-220-8989

• Industrial Technology Campus: 864-646-1800

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

FERPA is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of education records, to establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records, and to provide guidelines for the protection of inaccurate and misleading data through informal and formal hearings.

Student academic and educational records are confidential and are maintained by the appropriate record custodian. These records are disclosed only with the student’s written consent except as defined by FERPA. The written consent must:

• specify the records to be released

• state the purpose of the disclosure

• identify the party or parties to whom disclosure may be made

• be signed and dated by the student

Students may obtain a copy of the College’s policy regarding FERPA from the Registrar or the Dean of Corporate and Community Education. Students have the right to withhold disclosure of directory information under the FERPA. To withhold disclosure, students must complete the form and submit it to TC Central (First Floor, Ruby Hicks) on the Pendleton Campus by the end of the second week of class each term.

FREE Microsoft Office 365 is available to all students. Connect through the Academic Resources tile in MyTCTC for access to Office 365, which includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

It is accessible 24/7 through a link in your blackboard course, and you can complete work, practice, and be periodically reassessed to ensure topics are learned and retained. Overall students completing a high percentage of ALEKS topics have a much higher degree of success in their math courses.

MindTap is a learning platform that is required for some courses, including college skills classes. The MindTap software is an inclusive access purchase when you register for your college skills course. Your instructor will use MindTap for various readings, quizzes, and assignments. Many instructors use MyLabs or Mastering as part of their courses. There are numerous resources within these tools to help you learn, including videos and animations, sample homework problems and online assistance. You can access both resources through Blackboard.

We also offer an Information Technology Service Desk for assistance with MyTCTC, Blackboard, or other technology issues. Contact 864-646-1779 or servicedesk@tctc.edu.
