CONFERENCE INTRO The TCT 3Sixty conference has always been a foundational building block of the overall event, and indeed of the overall brand. In the days of yore (i.e., before the Internet, before 90% of the industry we see today was even dreamed of) the TCT conference was the main event. The exhibition was a sidenote, mostly table tops for the handful of commercial operations in the 3D printing world at that point. Today the conference is just one part in a thriving live event. It competes with formal and informal networking, the bright lights and razzmatazz of scores of vendors, countless machines, softwares and services clamouring for attention. Even in its travel-restricted form, which has sadly left a number of the more farflung speakers bitterly disappointed, the TCT conference remains more than the sum of its parts. Yes, there are dozens of speakers with decades of experience to share. Yes, there are presentations and panel sessions covering everything from materials research to Aerospace standards… …but the real magic of the conference is that there are thousands of opportunities for inspiration, learning and serendipity. Discovering how other organisations are utilising 3D printing — in either your own industry, or more likely in another unrelated industry — provides answers to questions you didn’t know you had, and questions you never thought you needed to ask!

So, as you navigate TCT 3Sixty 2021 I would urge you to study the full programme on the show app and pick at least one presentation or panel to see. It’s free, of course, and if you don’t find one answer you need, one useful question to ask or one spark of inspiration that leads to something positive… come and find me and I’ll buy you a drink. The following pages show a selection of the speakers at this year’s event. The full programme, up-to-date timetable and furthe details will be available through the TCT 3Sixty app. My sincere thanks to all those speakers, panellists and moderators who are with us this year and equally sincere commiserations to those unable to attend — many of whom are already on the plan for June 2022! JIM WOODCOCK VP CONTENT, STRATEGY & PARTNERSHIPS

PLEASE NOTE: The full conference timetable and speaker details will be available on the TCT 3Sixty app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for free. While every attempt has been made to ensure the accuracy of the speakers highlighted here, the programme is subject to change. www.tct3sixty.com |

NORTH STAGE

NORTH STAGE | DAY 3 THE SECOND WAVE OF ADDITIVE: BUILDING A NEW INDUSTRY The Fourth Industrial Revolution has extensive dependency on additive manufacturing. BiologIC is pioneering the “second wave of additive”. The first wave has mainly used 3D printing for prototyping designs that are then mass produced using classical manufacturing approaches. Some advantages of the first wave have been that 3D printing can print many geometric structures, as well as simplify the product design process. It is also relatively environmentally friendly. Moreover, it can significantly decrease lead times, increase flexibility and reduce total production costs. The second wave of additive is a major transition that truly takes advantage of “free complexity” and ”mass customisation” in unleashing a powerful new generation of highly-integrated products with high density of function and for which additive manufacturing is used through the entire product life cycle. Whilst the first wave of additive has supported existing industries, the second wave of additive has the potential not only to radically disrupt existing industries but also to create entirely new industries based on capabilities that are only enabled by mastering industry 4.0.

RICHARD VELLACOTT, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, BIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIES

APPLICATION DISCOVERY – PEEK PARTS WITH POWDER BED FUSION PROCESS Polymeric additive manufacturing (AM) has seen a significant push towards the use of high-performance polymers (HPPs) in recent years. Known to compete in performance with metals, HPPs are defined as materials having continuous use temperatures of 250 °C in air with examples such as PTFE, polyaryletherketones (PAEKs), polyimides (PI), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), and aromatic polysulfones (PSU). Transforming the landscape of materials usage, offering far more than just lightweight replacements for metals, HPPs are also resistant to ionising radiation, corrosion, abrasion and stress-fatigue, have low toxicity, and very importantly they are mechanically tough. Although HPPs have clear applications when using conventional manufacturing processes, their use with AM processes requires re-evaluation from design all way through to applications. The Centre for Additive Layer Manufacturing (CALM) at the University of Exeter worked together with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult to demonstrate the redesign process of a PEEK component proposed by Thales Underwater Systems for assessment using high temperature polymeric powder bed fusion process (PBF), a less accessible technology in UK and EU than the material extrusion (MEX)technology. From understanding the application constrains and functional specifications to initial concept designs, structural topology optimisation through to manufacturing constrains, the cable guide connector is evaluated and verified by Thales as enduser. SOUTH STAGE

SOUTH STAGE | DAY 3 ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING AND THE NEED FOR POWER PROTECTION

BRINGING DISRUPTIVE CHANGE TO COMMERCIAL POWER GENERATION SECTOR THROUGH ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

When it comes to 3D printing processes even a short power disruption can have a significant impact. Whatever the cause a power disruption can affect the quality of the 3D-printed component, even if the process has been completed. This loss extends well beyond the component. A UPS power back-up system and its associated components can help the 3D printing processes run smoothly by improving and maintaining the additive production process. Recent case studies with industry leaders such as Lockheed Martin and GE show significant operation savings with an integrated power quality solution.

A company that’s working hard to put Wales on the map for marine energy is Bombora, whose innovative mWave product produces environmentally friendly, consistent and cost-competitive energy for commercial power generation in coastal locations throughout the world. Bombora’s is currently focusing on a two-and-a-half-year, €20 million project to design, fabricate and test the first 1.5 MW mWave prototype in Wales. The project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund though Welsh Government. Research Officers from the MADE Cymru project at University of Wales Trinity Saint David are working collaboratively with Bombora to develop and test a key component for the device, rationalising the manufacturing method and reducing the manufacturing costs of the component. The team are also committed to ensuring that the improved component could be manufactured here in Wales. The combined industry and technological knowledge of the team at Bombora, coupled with the research ability and advanced technology available to those working with the Advanced Design Engineering (ADE) team at MADE Cymru, will achieve an improved component by the spring of 2021.
