Accommodation in Mandurah

Mandurah is a very popular holiday destination particularly at the time of the event and it is recommended that bookings be made will in advance, minimum 10 months. Within close proximity (walking distance) of the club there is lots of choice from camp sites to 5* hotels. The local tourist centre will be able to help find suitable accommodation.

For ease of walking to all facilities we recommend that you look at places bordered by the river to the south, ocean to the west, Pinjarra Road to the west and Stewart / Forrest Street to the North. This puts you no more than 16 minutes walk to the sailing club and all pubs and restaurants. You can venture as far north as Henson Street / Anstruther Road but allow 25 minutes walk. Most things can be accessed on foot in Mandurah, and there are plenty of bike paths. Getting around is easy. Things to see and do in Mandurah include:

The old / original town with it’s main street is on the edge of the Murray River. Within this area you will find coffee shops, restaurants and plenty of shopping as well as the pubs and the night clubs. The second entertaining area is part of the brand new marina complex. It includes the arts centre, cinema, many restaurants, dolphin quays market plus much more. It is six to eight minute walk between the two areas along the beautiful tree lined waterfront. There are many styles of restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes and budgets. Whilst fish restaurants offer locally caught fish there is also a range of international style eateries.

4. Travel to and around Mandurah

TRANSPORT TO AND IN WA International travel to the event Malaysian Airlines our travel partners have a dedicated worlds booking site available, details can be found here.

Travel by Road: The road system in Perth is second to none. Freeways allow easy movement across the city and out to the further lying communities. From the centre of Perth and from the airport there are freeways to Mandurah allowing the 79 km distance to be covered in less than one hour. Routes from the city centre and the airport to MOFSC will be posted on the event web site. Travel by Train: A new north – south rail network has been installed in Perth over the last few years, allowing access to Mandurah from Perth – via Rockingham on new, fully air conditioned trains. Routes from the city centre and the airport to the Mandurah, along with fares will be posted on the event web site. 5. Visa information 2012 Fireball World Championships – Visa Information Mandurah W.A. Visa information The information relating to visa options contained in this fact sheet is current as at 16 February 2011. Australian law may change after this time resulting in a change in visa options. While this fact sheet provides an outline of the most common business visas, please note there are many visa options available for visiting Australia. The appropriate visa will depend, amongst other things, on the person’s purpose for visiting.

All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia (other than New Zealand passport holders, who will normally be issued a Special Category visa on arrival, provided they meet health and character requirements; and permanent residents of Norfolk Island who may be granted a Permanent Resident of Norfolk Island visa on arrival). 1. Tourist visa - is the most suitable option for amateur competitors and others whose only purpose is to attend/observe the event. 2. Business visa - is the most suitable option for professional competitors, officials, coaches or support staff.

Online applications eVisitor Passport holders from eVisitor eligible countries are able to apply individually online for authorisation to travel to and enter Australia. All visa applicants must be assessed against Australia’s health and character requirements. These requirements are designed to protect the safety and security of the Australian community. Health requirements As part of the visa application process you may be required to undertake a medical examination, chest x-ray and/or other health checks. The department will advise you of the applicable health checks (if any), based on your individual circumstances. If you are unsure whether you can pass Australia’s character test because of prior criminal convictions, you should lodge a paper-based application at the Australian visa office nearest to your current place of residence, at least four months prior to the event start date. http://www.dfat.gov.au/un/unsc_sanctions/index.html Biometrics Program From December 2010, Biometrics will need to be collected at an Australian Visa Application Centre for visitors lodging a paper-based visa application from the countries listed at the department’s website at http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/biometrics/offshore/countries.htm Invitation/registration to attend the event Although this is a separate process to lodging your visa application, the department may take into account whether you are registered, or have been invited, to attend the event, when assessing whether you meet the criteria for the grant of a visa. Confirmation of registration is required for this event and evidence of this will need to accompany the Business (Short Stay) visa (Subclass 456) application. Date for lodging paper based applications All visitors should apply for a visa at least two months prior to the intended date of departure, and four months prior for people with character concerns. Visa applications lodged after 19 August 2011 may not be decided in time for visitors to attend the event. Obligations of visa holders On arrival at Australia’s border you must identify yourself, present your travel documents, and complete an Incoming Passenger Card (IPC). The IPC requires visitors to declare their health status and any prior criminal convictions. If you do not meet immigration clearance requirements, you may be refused entry to Australia. For paperbased applications, this information is available either on your visa label or in the letter informing you that you have been granted a visa. For online applications, it is available on the letter or email confirming the grant of your visa. If you breach these conditions, your visa may be cancelled. If your visa expires while you are still in Australia, you become an unlawful noncitizen. Unlawful non-citizens are liable to be detained and removed from Australia. Need help? 6. Mandurah Container Shipping

Warning!!! Australia has very strict quarantine restrictions, in order to smooth the movement of containers through customs and quarantine guidelines will be issued to all container organizers once the process has been agreed. The main restrictions affect the frame materials, personal items and launching trolley wheels. Failure to comply with the guidelines may delay boat arrival, incur additional costs and may result in items being destroyed. Bikes, untreated wood frames and personal effects cannot enter Australia in the containers.

Dave Coughlin at Tayper has offered to handle freight clearance and delivery to the sailing club for all containers coming from overseas. Once cleared customs and quarantine the containers will be moved by side loaders to the sailing club eliminating the need for a crane. 7. Malaysia Airlines

Malaysian flight deal for the championships Fireball Australia and Malaysian Airlines have entered into a sponsorship arrangement for the 2012 Fireball worlds For every flight booked with Malaysian, fireball get an allowance towards the jury members flights to the worlds, so the more who book with Malaysian, the less money we have to spend on the jury and therefore the lower the entry fee for the event. While the flights are not guaranteed to be cheaper than other airlines we ask that you consider using Malaysian if possible, in the long run all competitors will benefit. 8. Special Deals

Hertz Car rentals – Mandurah have come on board as car sponsor for the Fireball World Championships. They are offering a 20% discount on all car rentals. To access this discount you need to quote / enter the following discount code - called a “CDP” the code is 1820634. Cars will only be available for collection and drop off at the Mandurah Hertz dealership. If you require the car to be delivered to the airport for collection then there will be an additional fee of $110.00. Note that to make it easy to get from the airport to Mandurah we will be running a Fireball Shuttle bus. Tickets on the shuttle bus will be $20.00 per person.
