Teal’s a family FIGURATIVELY & LITERALLY!
THE MACON’S. A father & son superintendent dynamic duo. Grant is known for his cowboy hat and charm while Taylor is the more quiet, humble type. Jokes aside, It is a pleasure have such a great pair on our team! Taylor and Grant are both working on two of our dealership projects.
THE LEBLANC’S. Where do we start? There isn’t a day without a hello with a smile, how’s it going and cheer when Kathy is around. John is not too bad himself. Kathy serves as our Close-Out Coordinator which benefits every project. John is a VP and runs the majority of our automotive projects.
MILLER. Not related but part of our Teal family. Michael is our Business Development Manager bringing in new work around TX!
GULFGATE DODGE PM. Mark Baumgard S. Richard Garza PC. Debbie Freeman NEW PHONES. We have them, they are working, and soon we will be talking to each other just by 3 digits. Corpus, you will be up and running soon. Training for the Houston office was today and we are ready to run!

HOUSTON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION -
MOVING HOUSTON SINCE 1979
Houston Traffic is for the birds! This is something that the majority of us deal with on a daily basis, sitting in bumper to bumper traffic to and from work as well as on the weekend trying to get out and about. With Houston being a sprawling city, can our transportation system ever be bearable or even enjoyable? Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States and the largest city in Texas by population. The three other cities above Texas in the United States all have mass public transportation that seem to work well for their inhabitants. Overhead and underground subways, accountable bus routes, and other private means (taxis, Uber, etc.) all transport people from here to there in a timely manner. The system maps are easy to read for even the less than intelligent tourist. Houston’s current mass transportation include Metro Bus and Rail, a plethora of taxi services and the new Uber app which uses private drivers to tote you around. Though the rail system has been a nice option for those getting to the Medical Center and Downtown, it limits the users by only catering to those areas. Many Houstonians access it during the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo as well as Texans games at the NRG. The first rail system was constructed for the 2004 for Super Bowl XXXVII which constituted the location and implementation of the system. Now with Houston hosting Super Bowl 2017 the city is strengthening it’s Rail system and hospitality venues which will not only help the Football Fans, but also Houstonians connect throughout the city. The new construction has expanded the “Red Line” which is the original Main Street Line and built two new lines, Green and Purple, that connect back to the Red Line. The Green line runs from the East End to the Theater District connecting West Downtown to Minute Maid and BBVA Compass Stadiums as well as the Houston classic, Original Ninfa’s (Open’s May 23rd). The Purple line runs from the Theater District to Texas Southern which stops at University of Houston as well. Both new lines will benefit weekend warriors and commuting students. Other new lines that are slated for construction will connect all of Houston’s major institutions including UH Central, TSU and Rice and run from UH out to Hillcroft and 59 as the University Line, and the Uptown Line will connect Memorial Park to Bellaire gliding through the Galleria. The new and future expansions of Metro Rail will definitely benefit those that live inside the loop, but unfortunately do little for those outside the Loop. How can Houston better accommodate those residents or all-in-all will Houston always be a vehicle driving city? METRORAIL SYSTEM PLAN
On a side note, the Final corridor has

MELBOURNE/NORTH LINDALE
been proposed for the Houston-to-Dallas railway. If you don’t know, since the 90’s there has been talk about building a highspeed railway connecting Houston and Dallas, now a plan is put into place to go to the Federal Railroad Administration. The service will include a maximum speed of 205 mph and cut the travel time more than half to 90 minutes. I am not sure why any Houstonian would want to go to Dallas, but I can already see at least one time a year riots being conducted on the train between two unnamed team’s fans. All together this will open more opportunities for Texas residents linking the two cities together. The private company proposing the new rail is Texas Central Railway Company and has been working on plans since 2009. Unfortunately past proposals (since 1991) have been lobbied against and eventually canceled due to companies like By May 2015 Southwest Airlines, Days Inn, Best Western, LaQuinta Inn, McDonald’s, and Burger King primarily because a lot of their locations were along the interstate not along the of Rail will be in operation Approximately 290K patrons ride the bus per day rail or Southwest Airlines which reasoning *Person = 100K is in it’s name. Let’s hope that we have Approx. broken some of these barriers in the new 40K millennium and can get this project from patrons an idea to completion! (Maybe it will one ride the rail day be expanded to Corpus helping Teal’s per day commute South!) *Person = 5K 610

PHILPOTT TOYOTA PM. The Johns - LeBlanc & Shead S. Joe Garcia PC. Connie Emmons Philpott Toyota is the new construction of a Toyota Dealership in Nederland, Texas. We have been advancing quickly with building one while getting started on the foundation work for building two. The new complex will include a showroom building, service drive and service building. The total square footage of the project is approximately 31,000. This is one of numerous projects that will be completed with Goree Architects and for Sonic Automotive. Once completed Philpott will be our sixth new ground-up Toyota Dealership since the brand re-image.

DID YOU KNOW? The Astrodome turned 50 this month! HBD ASTRODOME! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASTRODOME! You don’t look at year older than... On April 9th, the Astrodome celebrated it’s 50th birthday with a larger Houston party sponsored by National Trust for Historic Preservation and Preservation Houston. The party included ‘FREE DOME DOGS’ which anyone that enjoyed an Astro’s game at the dome know the magnitude of a Dome Dog! For over five years Houston has been trying to determine what to do with the empty building, once labeled the 8th Wonder of the World. Many different design ideas have come across Harris County Commissioners Court, HLSR, and Reliant’s desk to keep and recondition the structure. As some may know in 2013 the Harris County voters voted against having the structure refurbished due to a rise in taxes. ($8/year for $200,000house) Luckily the innovated structure hasn’t been demolished and a new plan has been sent to the to Harris County which they have now agreed to send to the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation to develop an implementation plan. The new conversion plan includes a $240 million multi-use park which includes a new ground-floor park and event space, 1500 new parking spaces on the first two floors as well as the creation of additional event space and exhibition space within the dome. Who knows in the near future we may be driving our cars up those ramps that we loved to run down as kids!
National Safety STAND-DOWN TO PREVENT FALLS IN CONSTRUCTION

SAFETY
STAND-DOWN OSHA NATIONAL CAMPAIGN Next month Teal will be participating in the OSHA National Safety Stand-Down campaign which educates our jobsite team on fall protection and preventing falls on our jobs. All superintendents will be required to have a tool box talk on fall prevention or another relevant safety activity such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans, or discussing job specific hazards. Superintendents are encouraged to plan a stand-down that works best for their project anytime during the May 4 -15. If you need help on what to discuss see Suggestions to Prepare for a Successful “Stand-Down” and Highlights from the 2014 Stand-Down on the OSHA website www. osha.gov. Please coordinate with your project manager on what and when your Stand-Down break will be, so that we can all be involved. (Click on the above hyperlinks to access 2014 Stand-Down and suggestions)
In 2013, 36.9% of the total fatalities in construction were caused by falls (294 out of 796). In the last four months our industry is already over half of 2013’s total fatalities, October 1, 2014 February 7, 2015 490 reported job related fatalities. Teal should have and will have safety at the forefront of all our projects. We have to facilitate saftey conversations through preconstruction meetings and toolbox talks to train ourselves and the workers on our jobs. By educating, we can prevent these fatalities.
FROST BANK - STAFFORD Frost Bank Stafford (project management team are Pat Garrett & Mark Baumgard, superintendents Jim Shaw & Ernesto Castro, and project coordinator Connie Enmon) will be completed July 2015 with no if, ands, or buts about it based on our contract. When schedule demands are made in the preconstruction or contract negotiations our team brainstorms how we will make it and work proactively to extinguish any fires that may occur to prevent this date. Jim & Ernesto are working 6 days a week to get the project completed and regulate many of the major subcontractors to do the same. During the construction document phase of the project we have an early release of the civil drawings so that we could get the site work prepared and ready when the permit was in hand. These are some of the typical actions Teal takes to get the job done on time.
