Hofhaussiedlung, Neue Vahr Nord The developement of a universal space for social equality, respect and openness. Ideational roomproduction which is seamless connected to the urban space and brings new ways of commoning through rooms, focussing on physical and mental balance, open for everyone. Contamplative living is integrated in the bearing structure and completes the building.
Conceptual model focussing on the static paradigm
Conceptual model focussing on the light situation inside the building
Four types of space The building is mainly divided into four different spaces. They develope step by step from the very private to the very public. Each space serves different social structures and therefore changes in size and use. The first space is the smallest space: a space of private contemplation. A necessary room for sleeping, learning and selfrefelction. A room that doesn´t need many square meters but a good light situation, some storage room for private things, a desk for working, reading and thinking and a bed. This space for us represents the minimal possible privacy in an assemblage of shared rooms. The second space is the communal room in an apartment. No matter if a
commune, a family or a group of seniors is living in the apartment the room flowing around the private spaces is always shared. It serves essential uses of housing, like sanitary facilities, a kitchen, room for eating and social interaction. To provide light to these rooms a patio lies in the middle of each apartment. The introverted character of the apartments supports the idea of a countrary architecture between private and public spaces. The third space is the communal garden. The gardens are roofless cut-ins between the apartments enabling their acessability. These little gardens are used by maximal 5 apartments. Like this a smaller room of interaction with neighbours is created. The shared garden can be used for collaberative dinners, as a little
playground for the kids, the laundry can dry here and plants can be planted. Through these activities the neighbours get to know each others. They start communicating and a basis for sharing things from the household is given. The last space is the universal space. It is a space offering and requiring equality and respect. Everyone should have the same possibilities here to learn, do sports, hang out, to have fun or being productive. The universal space is seamlessly connected to the surrounding city and open for the public. All overbuilt space is becoming one big hall nearly without any structure. Only the stairs leading up to the communal gardens are standing sculpturally in the universal space. It is devided into three parts offering differnt tenders to
the public. The first part is for physical health and sporting activity. A long pool for swimming is the central point of this part. A basketball court, a little fttness centre, a room for dancing classes or yoga, billard tables, table tennis and some areas for relaxing are completing this part. The second part is for learning and producing. A library with tables for working, group tables and a fab-lab aswell as space for doing music and watching movies is making this a good surrounding to work in. The third part is for necessarities concerning living. A little shop, washing maschines, a bike rental and a repairshop are spread in this part. Our design focusses on these different kind of spaces and how they could come together in one building, supporting each other.
