Connections Community Support P The Perfect Pairing will be held on Thursday, Oct.14, at Barclays Rock Center on the Riverfront, Wilmington, DE Connections Community Support Programs, Inc. has been providing community-based housing and support services to individuals and families with extremely low incomes and special needs throughout the state of Delaware since 1985. Connections’ services include housing; food and day shelter; outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment; homeless outreach; primary medical care; community-based case management; home health care; and employment assistance for people who are difficult-to-employ because of disability, criminal justice involvement, or low rates of educational attainment. The people served by Connections are impoverished, underserved, and underprivileged. Most have been homeless, incarcerated, or institutionalized during their lives. Many have been previously served in an emergency shelter or transitional facility and have been unable to maintain residence in these programs because they were not able to meet the behavioral, sobriety, and/or treatment demands, or the programs lacked the resources to adequately provide critical support services. As a result, they have bounced back and forth between homelessness, incarceration, and institutionalization. Many of the people we serve come to us with only the shirt on their back and no options remaining. Page 4

The mission of Connections is to improve the lives of vulnerable and disenfranchised Delaware residents by providing a comprehensive array of affordable and accessible primary medical, mental health and substance abuse treatment, employment, and housing opportunities to help them become accepted and productive members of their communities. The organization will serve more than 9,000 unduplicated individuals in over 40 locations throughout Delaware, including New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties, and will provide more than 180,000 nights of safe, affordable housing this year. During the last year, Connections has emphasized the development of new jobs for people with barriers to employment by starting several social enterprise businesses which offer janitorial services, construction clean up, and catering and retail food outlets (such as A&G Steak Shop). Through these enterprises, Connections has created almost 70 new jobs. Events like The Perfect Pairing: Crafted Brews and Gourmet Bites for a Good Cause help Connections to meet its mission to continue providing muchneeded services to the poor and homeless of Delaware. Success Story: When Tiffanie came to Connections, her husband had recently passed away and her children had been removed from her care because of her drug addiction. She entered the Cornerstone Residential Treatment Program, which specializes in serving individuals with co-occurring severe and persistent mental health and substance use conditions. With treatment and assistance, Tiffanie was able to manage her mental illness and overcome her drug addiction. She has been clean and sober for over two years now and currently resides in a Connections transitional housing program as she works toward her goal of becoming self-sufficient. She is currently a student at Delaware Technical & Community College, and eagerly anticipates becoming employed in the medical field after she graduates.
