Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware

LRFDE’s Delaware Mudrun The Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware, founded by Denni Ferrara of Middletown, Delaware, is dedicated to funding researchers in their quest toward a cure for blood cancers. Denni Ferrara’s daughter Natalia was diagnosed with high risk acute lymphocytic leukemia at age three. She was treated at Nemours/A. I. duPont Hospital for Children and is now a healthy sixteen year old at St. George’s High School. Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware launched in September 2007. What makes the LRFDE different from other organizations raising money is that 100% of all proceeds go directly to cancer research. In the foundation’s first three years, they have raised well over a half million dollars. The LRFDE did not waste time donating as promised to all the generous sponsors and contributors; to date, the LRFDE has pledged $1,000,000.00 to St. Jude’s Cancer Research Hospital for Children, and donated $10,000.00 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of DE, $25,000.00 to Christiana Care, and most recently $50,000.00 to Nemours/A.I. duPont’s Research Facility for Childhood Cancer. The LRFDE holds three annual fundraising events each year, the Annual Golf Outing held in May, the Black Tie Gala in February, and the Delaware Mudrun which is coming up on September 26, 2010. The Delaware Mudrun is held at Frightland and is a team based 5k obstacle course challenge with prizes. Those who are not competitive runners need not worry because walkers are welcome! It is about coming together to “get down and dirty” to help cure cancer. The LRFDE’s Delaware Mudrun is proud to announce it is the only of it’s kind and also Delaware’s largest 5K, with over 2,500 runners already signed up. Registration ends on September 17, 2010. Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees. In these unusual real estate times, it’s easy to get bogged down in the headlines and miss the big picture. Sometimes a step back or a new perspective can make all the difference. Much talk around the office cooler these days is about the expired tax credits and lower values. But if you take a look at the big picture, you’ll see that something very special is happening. Mortgage rates are the lowest in 50 years and that’s created an unusual opportunity in real estate land. It means that, all other things being equal, you qualify for much more now than you did even before home prices began to drop. Two years ago the conventional zero point rate was 6.5% (6.64% APR.) Today it’s 4.25% (4.372% APR.) So what exactly does that mean in real life? A buyer who could afford an $1,800 principal and interest payment in 2008 would have qualified for a mortgage of about $277,500. Today, that same buyer would qualify for a $360,500 mortgage! Or, if you’re more into savings, then you can buy the same priced house for $414/month less than you could 2 years ago. For those who might find themselves making less now than several years ago, the benefits still hold true.
