Introducing our 1st Annual Newsletter! Angkor W has now been part of the Siem Reap community for over 14 years! So we have decided to share our memorable moments with you going into the future. This has resulted in the launch our inaugural Annual Newsletter. It will update you on all the events, projects and highlights from Angkor W over the last twelve months. First and foremost we would like to thank everyone who has shared it with us. Our continuous success would not be possible without your generous support! The expansion of the company has also been an investment in the community and we are very proud of all our hardworking employees. One such honorable mention are Executive Chefs the “Kimsan Twins”, who have been recognized internationally for elevating the profile of contemporary Khmer Cuisine at Embassy Restaurant. Excitingly we are currently preparing our latest venue - The Ten Bells - which is set to open in March 2016. The new premier location along Alley West (near Old Market) will be a leading high - end venue, specially catering for cocktail, wine and oyster lovers. Madame Butterfly RESTAURANT

Madame Butterfly, the iconic Siem Reap venue hosted an indulgent one-off evening that consisted of 9 course meal crafted by Executive Chefs Kimsan Twins & Chef Corentien Hennon, sampling 9 Grand Crus wines all sourced from the Bordeaux region of France evening of 4th December 2015. See Gallery >>

MIXOLOGIST STIRTS THE CROWS AT BANANA LEAF – PUB STREET

Pro Mixologist Bob Louison pleased the crowds at Banana Leaf Restaurant & Bar in Pub Street 13rd August 2015, crafting plenty of creative and delicious Grand Marnier based cocktails. The guests and our team had so much from that night. See Gallery >>

SPEED MEETS GRACE AT THE 2015 WAITER’S RACE

Waitresses & Waiters braved the elements and showed off their skills at this Year’s 2015 Waiters’ Race in Siem Reap. The event, organized by Angkor W, attracted 127 contestants from a wide variety of restaurants, hotels and bars based in Siem Reap. Review Result >>

2nd CHEF CHALLENGE SIEM REAP

Chef Challenge was open to the public for the first time held in Kings Road Angkor Public area 22nd March 2015. The challenge pitted 18 contestants from 10 of our restaurants against each other to see which team would be taking home bragging rights as the 2015 champion. Review Result >>


SOCIAL WORK CAMBODIAN CHEF KIMSAN SOK JOINS STAR CHEF TEAM- AT SALABAI EVENT IN SINGAPORE

November 19, 2015 Sala Baï Hotel & Restaurant School recently held their annual ‘Touch Sala Baï dinner and auction evening in Singapore. It was an honor to have our very own Assistant Executive Chef Kimsan Sok invited to attend and participate in the event as a former alumni of the school. Kimsan is now heading Embassy Restaurant as half of The Kimsan Twins, along with Executive Chef Kimsan Pol. See Gallery >>

SUPPORT KANTHA BOPHA CHARITY GALA DINNER

It was an exciting night for the Madame Butterfly Restaurant team as representatives presented the cheque from their recent Charity Gala Dinner to Dr. Beat Richner, Director of Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals. Madame Butterfly restaurant managed to raise $3,636.00 from the event by holding a signature gastronomy dinner specially prepared by local Chef legends the ‘Kimsan Twins‘; 100% of revenue from the evening was donated to the hospital’s new maternity building . EMBASSY EXECUTIVE CHEF DUO ON SHOW AT PSE INSTITUTE, PHNOM PENH

Embassy Restaurant’s star Executive Chef Team the “Kimsan Twins” had a chance to visit Pour Un Sourire D’Enfant (PSE) in Phnom Penh and hold a special cooking demonstration for a select group of inspiring students last May 2015. See Gallery >>

WE ARE TURNING WASTE INTO POWER WITH NAGA BIOFUEL

Angkor W is impressed by the work and vision of Naga Biofuels and extends their support by donating all used oils from all their outlets. Recently Angkor W’s team of Head Chefs, led by Executive Chefs “The Kimsan Twins,” had an opportunity to visit the factory to see and learn about their admirable work. According to Tim Waterfield, director of the social enterprise, “This is an important and crucial part of the process as it is ultimately the Chefs who must be willing to donate the oil they previously may have sold for re-use on the streets.” Support Naga Earth Project >>


SOCIAL WORK FROM RUBISH TO FUNKY FASION BAGS & OTHERS

SNEAK PEAK INSIDE HOME OF EAU KULEN MINERAL WATER SIEM REAP

Some of the team recently hit the road for a research trip to the Eau Kulen natural mineral water extraction and bottling plant. The trip is part of regular efforts to personally visit suppliers, learn more about their operations and foster a relationship that ultimately results in a better experience for our customers. This particular trip was also an opportunity to discuss a new social project that Angkor W and Kulara Water will be initiating in the future, but more on that at a later date. See More >>


RESTAURANT UPDATES RUSSIAN PM TRIES KHMER CUISINE

It was our honor recently to host Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at Madame Butterfly Restaurant during his brief visit to Siem Reap. The evening before touring the famous Angkor Wat temples, Prime Minister Medvedev wanted to explore Cambodian cuisine and the team at Madame Butterfly were more than pleased to host him. There have been a few changes lately at The Khmer BarBeQ with the Open-air Dinner & Dance Theater moved to the much more spacious lower terrace and the open plan upper floor now converted for BBQ dining. The renovations now allow us to entertain even more guests while they enjoy their meal with our traditional music & dance show “Apsara,” shown every night of the week. The team at Embassy celebrated their rise to Number 1 Restaurant in Siem Reap on TripAdvisor last year with a champagne toast among their Chef peers. EMPLOYEES SPOTLIGHT JOINING ANGKOR WAT HALF MARATHON

The whole office team wanted to join the occasion, so to accommodate everyone we chose the less demanding 3km Fun Run rather than the challenging full race. One pleasing additional aspect of the whole event is that it is for charity, “raising relief for victims of antipersonnel mines in Cambodia. See Gallery >>

ANGKOR W SHOWCASE THEIR TALENT DURING SIEM REAPS EXPO ‘15

The show was co-run with Camfood (Cambodia’s biggest F&B industry show) and over the course of the expo Apsara Palace Resort hosted competitions, exhibitions, trials and demonstrations ranging from elaborate fruit carving to cooking challenges and the team from Angkor W Restaurant Collection made sure they were there to join in the action. Chefs Bet Soky (The Grey Khmer Grill), Loeng Peou (Banana Leaf) and Sok Pisey (Madame Butterfly) go head-to-head against Siem Reap’s best, in a set menu competition. Their skill and dedication paid off as the team took home second place for the Culinary Competition in an announcement made at the closing ceremony on the final day. See Gallery >>

LAUNCHING OF TRAINING COURSE

Angkor W’s Food & Beverage department headed by Manager Mr. Mao Sokthea & Assistant Manager Mr. Sok Savin officially launched their first in-house introductory training course, during the course students were taught and required to demonstrate the appropriate skills and attributes to be an Angkor W team member. In addition to training new employees the course is also designed as refreshment training for current staff who are rotated into the lessons as well. See Gallery >>

The Angkor W team celebrated annual New Year’s Staff Party, with plenty of food, drink, singing, dancing, laughing and LOTS of prizes! All the things you expect from a great party. It was a fantastic opportunity to recognize and reward everyone for their hard work during the year and the perfect chance for staff who normally work in separate locations to join the entire Angkor W family as one.
