FIRST PITCH • No. 8 Texas Tech will return to the road for the final time in Big 12 play this weekend as the Red Raiders travel to Lawrence for a three-game series against Kansas that begins Friday evening at Hoglund Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. Friday evening followed by 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday. All three games will air on ESPN3. • The Red Raiders enter this weekend with a two-game lead in the Big 12 standings as Texas Tech is 14-4 against conference foes, its best record through 18 games since recording a similar 14-4 mark in the league’s inaugural season in 1997. • Texas Tech controls a 35-24 all-time advantage over Kansas but trails in the overall series in Lawrence where the Jayhawks are 14-13 against the Red Raiders. • Texas Tech will be looking for its first series win in Lawrence since the 2010 season this weekend as the Jayhawks have won each of the past five games at home. • The Red Raiders have won all three of their Big 12 road series this season as Texas Tech is 6-2 away from home in league play after taking two-of-three games at Baylor (March 18-20) and Cory Raley is hitting at a team-leading .388 clip in Big 12 play entering No. 6 TCU (April 29-May 1) while also sweeping No. 16 Oklahoma State (April 8-10). • The Red Raiders are in the midst of an eight-game road trip that began with a 5-4 walk-off vic- this weekend’s series at Kansas. tory on April 27 against Abilene Christian. Texas Tech will travel to Kansas this weekend before facing ACU again on May 10 to conclude the road trip. It is Tech’s longest road trip of the season. • Texas Tech has already reached the 30-win plateau for a third-consecutive season, a feat the Red Raiders had not previously accomplished since recording at least 30 wins over 14-straight years from 1993-2006. • Texas Tech is coming off a series win last weekend at No. 6 TCU where the Red Raiders claimed a 7-3 victory on Friday night before holding on for a 3-1 victory in the finale. Tech is a perfect 6-0 this season in Big 12 series openers. • The series win over TCU improved Texas Tech to 7-2 against teams ranked in the top 25 of the RPI poll. The Red Raiders, who enter this weekend at No. 13 in the RPI, rank second nationally with seven wins on the road against top-25 teams as Tech as already defeated the likes of No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette and No. 16 Oklahoma State in addition to No. 6 TCU.
