ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER TOP-25 FOE After going on the road to top then-No. 15 Oklahoma State, Texas Tech will get another opportunity to knock off a top-25 foe this Saturday in No. 12 West Virginia. The Red Raiders, themselves, entered the national rankings this week as Tech checked in at No. 25 in the Associated Press poll. n The Red Raiders are looking for wins over top-15 opponents in consecutive weeks for the first time since 2008 when Tech topped No. 1 Texas (39-33) and No. 8 Oklahoma State (56-20) at home. Tech has not defeated ranked foes in back-to-back weeks since 2012 when the Red Raiders downed No. 4 West Virginia (49-14) and No. 21 TCU (56-53). n

NEW FACES, SAME RESULTS ON OFFENSE Despite losing its starting quarterback and four wide receivers from a year ago (all to the NFL), Texas Tech once again ranks as the nation’s top offense as the Red Raiders lead the country in total yards per game (623.5) and passing yards per game (435.7) through the first four weeks of the season. n The Red Raiders head into this weekend’s tilt with West Virginia ranked fifth nationally in scoring offense after averaging 52.0 points per game thus far. Texas Tech has scored at least 60 points in each of its last two games inside Jones AT&T Stadium, marking the first time the Red Raiders have done so in consecutive games since 2005. n

Texas Tech being ranked No. 1 in passing offense (435.8 yards per game) and total offense (623.5 yards per game) shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to many as the Red Raiders have ranked among the nation’s top attacks for over a decade. What might surprise some, however, is the Red Raiders currently rank No. 1 among power-five teams and fifth overall nationally in time of possession. n Through four games, Texas Tech is controlling the clock to an average of exactly 36:00 minutes. The Red Raiders have not finished higher than 48th nationally in time of possession since the NCAA started tracking the stat in 2005. n

HONORING SEÑOR SACK Texas Tech will honor the memory of the Red Raider great Gabe Rivera throughout the 2018 season. Rivera, one of five members of the prestigious Texas Tech Ring of Honor, passed away in his hometown of San Antonio on July 16.

Known by fans as “Señor Sack” throughout his career, Rivera compiled 321 career tackles, including 34 that went for a loss, over his four-year career from 1979-82. He was inducted into the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Texas Tech Ring of Honor in 2014.
