- Detachable mains cable for portability - USB cable to connect to computer - User able to download new vocabulary / languages
- User is woken by the alarm saying a word in the users native language followed by the translation. - Alarm is turned off by the user speaking the foreign word into the microphone at the front of the alarm clock. - Engages the users mind first thing in the morning and also helps the user build up a strong vocabulary of a foreign language
11
This Alarm clock is designed to assist people learning a new language. It is suitable for people of all ages as it has a range of difficulties. By learning a new word every morning, the user of this alarm clock will quickly build their vocabulary of a different language. RSA Student Design Awards 2015 Universal Water Filter
Water for All Universal Water Filter
The Problem
-
780 million without access to clean water worldwide
-
200 million hours spent by women collecting water everyday
-
Women travelling huge lengths only to bring unhealthy and dangerous water for their families
The Solution
-
-
Provide a water filter that attaches to a standard 28mm bottle cap fitting (e.g. coke/ water bottles) Removes the burden of providing contaminated water which could potentially kill women’s children/families
The issue is not just collecting water it is being able to provide clean, safe water for the family and community 15
Water for All User interaction with product Fill up old plastic bottle at local water source
Saving on Waste,
Saving People’s Lives
OR.. pour collected water into a plastic bottle
Insert filter and screw in place
Pull top cap to open filter and pour clean, safe water...
17
Water for All How it works
5000 nm
Red blood cells, Sediment, Protozoa
200 nm
E. Coli, Cholera, Malaria, Trachoma
15 nm
Polio, HIV, Typhoid, Salmonella
Pull cap lid
Sealing ring
28mm Screw Cap Fitting
3 Wall Filter - 3 walls perforated with microscopical holes ranging from 15 - 200 nm - Surface area increased because of 3 walls meaning filter has longer usage - Microscopic holes block all diseases and impurities only letting water particles through 19
Water for All Filter Applications and Developments The filter can be attached to larger containers such as jerry cans giving the user access to larger amounts of clean, safe water
- Multiple sizes offer adapters for different container fittings - Increased access to safe water - More cost effective than producing larger filters Filter screws into Adapter
Adapter screws onto container fitting
Dirty water in container will now be filtered and safe to drink/use

Near Here Child Tracking Sketch Concepts
- The disney band is a tracking device designed for children to wear. - The band features bluetooth and skyhook as two different types of tracking systems for ensured safety. - The band features a removable chip which is re-used by the theme park so the child can keep their band at the end of their visit.
29
Near Here Child Tracking Disney wristband tracker
- The wrisbands come in different colours which allows the band to be more personable to the child. - White band with colour highlights - This is in order to not over clutter the look of the wristband when the stamps are collected by the child. - White areas showcase the stamps more clearly.
- The wristbands would have a stamp collecting system around the band so that the child wants to wear it. - The stamps would be collected by the child at the end of the ride or attraction that they have just been on. The stamps are inserted into one of the extruded mickey mouse logos. - The child would try to collect enough stamps to fill all the spaces. Stamps could also be purchased from gift shops. - Each stamp would be different so every child’s wristband could potentially be different.

Mehnert Corporate Design 17th March - 17th September 2014 About the company: Mehnert Design is a German corporate design consultancy set up in 1995. They are a small team of designers and engineers who develop sustainable design solutions for companies that produce and distribute these designs worldwide. Mehnert Design boasts an impressive client base with worldwide manufacturers such as General Electric, Wilo, Salmson, Sauer Compressors and Danone. The company has also won multiple IF awards and multiple Red Dot awards.
My work: I was heavily involved in the design process at Mehnert Design because it was a small firm. I conducted research, created initial design concepts which were then developed extensively. I assisted my colleagues with preparing presentations for clients and creating models to visualize our design principles. I also created 2D renderings so the client could understand our design principles. I was also given the lead in a project, while being assisted by my colleagues. My work at Mehnert Design is confidential so is not featured in my portfolio
