To our fabulous Readers . . .

Issue 3 is upon us with the theme of Fantasy. So far for me this has been the hardest issue so far, the popularity of Teenbook has grown massively along with the team. This magazine started off as a fantasy for me, a small idea that now has been bought to life and surpassed my expectations.

What is Fantasy? Fantasy is an extension of the mind, developing thoughts past normality and pushing the boundaries of our ideas.

Fantasy can make us aspire to a dream career or even apply ideas never thought possible to excel a project.

Check out our shoot Phantasm, a beautiful editorial using immensely talented graduates work. Emma interviews Stacey Dooley who has had life altering experiences since her initial appearance on television, stylist Louise Roe and recording stars Coverdrive.

CONTRIBUTORS Raphael John Paul Patrick is a fashion loving stylist and editor in the making. Considered by many to be a social bug, Raphael loves to party just as much as he loves to wear clothes. At the age of 14 he came to the conclusion that one day he will edit the pages of Vanity Fair magazine.

Katie Maรงon is an illustrator hailing from the sunny isle of Jersey. She first discovered her passion for drawing and art after witnessing how brilliant her cousins were with a pencil and paper.

Spurned on by jealousy and pure determination she has been drawing ever since. Now situated in Bournemouth and studying at The Arts University College Bournemouth developing her practice, she enjoys whittling away her time with a vast array of inks and fine liners. Her art style combines bright colours and fluid lines to create whimsical light hearted imagery.

Aaron Ford

is a graphic designer and image retoucher based in Brisbane, Australia.

Having worked in the creative industry for over a decade, in 2011, he decided to redefine his focus, graduating from the highly regarded CATC Design College. It was there that he found his niche in the industry, finding himself perfectly suited to image retouching, and photographic postproduction, a place where his experience could be collated and focused. He currently works as a freelance artist, and can be contacted via email at a-ford@bigpond.com.

The S/S ’12 catwalk saw designers from Louis Vuitton to Christopher Kane and Erdem display a sea of pastel tones.

So embrace spring in pretty pastels and explore your feminine side with light chiffon dresses, pleated skirts and pastel blazers. For a more quirky twist on the spring trend, why not invest in some pastel coloured dungarees-put them with some mint green brogues and white frilly ankle socks for the ultimate look.

NEON

Shine bright with a statement bag, simple accessories or full on jumpsuit. Neon is back in a BIG way. Don’t think ‘Nu Rave’, think Roksanda Llincic, who has bought smart tailoring and bright separates to the catwalk with sophistication. Roberto Cavalli’s neon python snake clasp clutch also makes for the perfect accessory to show a pop of neon colour. Have fun with neon’s this season and play around with colour blocking.

Go floral this season, and work the look from head to toe. Whether it’s a floral coat, a Liberty scarf, cute ankle socks or all out prints. One designer proving the power of the flower this season is Mary Katrantzou- whose collection for Topshop sold out within minutes.

Why not even combine trends by showing off that mid-drift in a cropped tee and team it with a high waisted floral skirt or a pair of tailored shorts. On trend and fabulous, are also Zara’s floral blazerswear them casual or look instantly glamorous worn over a LBD.

FANTASY: the ‘F’ in Fashion

By Raphael John Paul Patrick There is only one place that most fashion icons desire to be at this time of year, and that place is Paris, for fashion week. While we’re just stepping into the mind set of Spring/Summer fashion, Autumn/Winter ’12 couture shows are being hosted by some of the most iconic designers in history. World-renowned fashion designers such as Valentino, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen and Thierry Mugler showcase awe-mongering collections. It is at events such as fashion week, when an amalgamation of designers and their unique creations come together, that we are left wondering what lies behind the designs, and where does it start?

I

t is almost impossible to think of fashion without thinking of fantasy; after all, it takes more than just an inspiration to come up with some of the creations seen in couture collections. Looking at the shows from past and present fashion weeks, it is clear to see that some of the pieces created by designers are not only a reflection of what they feel and imagine but also what they believe in and stand for. Each fashion masterpiece is like looking into a story-every outfit with its own beginning and its own epic tale, left to be deciphered by the audience of the show itself.

Although most couture designers claim to be inspired by different mediums, each Designer would never really succeed if it weren’t for their ability to put their own unique stamp on their clothes. A mark that can only come from the designer themselves, their mind, their thoughts and the depths of their innermost desires. Fantasy and imagination are products of those innermost desires and plays a crucial part in their designs.

February’s London Fashion Week was littered with products of imagination. One collection taken by storm was Mulberry’s Yeti inspired Autumn/Winter collection. Long shaggy furs were the centerpieces of the collection, with even the audience benches dressed to impress with shaggy black furs. Giorgio Armani Privé also left the audience starry eyed, with a dress designed to reflect a galaxy and its star system. The dress, which could only have been created for pop icon Lady Gaga, was a wow at the Grammy Awards 2010.

In many ways fashion is a form of escapism, both for the designers and for reciprocates of it. Whilst the designers can express themselves through their clothing and delve into their fantasies, so can we when we wear such clothes. Not only does fashion give a designer their identity, we create our own identity when wearing certain clothes in certain ways. If couture pieces from different designers were lined up on the catwalk it would be easy to decipher Alexander McQueen from Ellie Saab’s glitter and chiffon or Marchesa from Christian Dior’s extravagant feminine shapes and cuts.

Fashion is another world, within Earth itself; an Alice in Wonderland of sorts. The rules of physics do not apply when it comes to creating a couture collection.

Unique, inescapable and unmatchable designs are formed every season. The armadillo heels by Alexander McQueen, created the illusion that the models were standing on tip toes, like they were defying gravity itself. Christian Lacroix’s dresses often look so surreal that it almost feels as though they are part if the models biological physique. These designs lead us to one conclusion; in order for fashion to progress there must be an understanding and acceptance of the fantasy of its designers.

Without fantasy there is no fashion and without fashion there is no style.

THE STYLIST Louise Roe Growing up and being a teenager brings a whole new world of firsts, some amazing and some not so amazing.

But who better to turn to for inspiration than the beautiful and talented Louise Roe. We asked her about some of her first experiences and how they helped her to become the awesome lady she is today.

Your first day of high school It was really fun. It was an all-girl’s school in a big town near my home village, and I had to take the train there, which - at age 11- was very exciting. I loved my new blue uniform and of course we all hiked our skirts up to be shorter than they should’ve been.

Your first love Was a boy I kissed playing spinthe-bottle. We had a lengthy twomonth relationship, before I started fancying his best friend. Oops.

Your first heartbreak A few months later, the best friend dumped me!

Your first fashion memory A pink puffball skirt and pink fishtail tights, worn with grey pixie boots- to my sister’s birthday party. I was four.

Your first fashion icon Kylie Minogue.

6. Your first Job In a tiny candy store around the corner from my house. I earned £5 an hour and spent every Saturday afternoon reading magazines and eating sweets!

Your first regret Nothing major. To be honest I feel like mistakes are meant to be learned from and not regretted- if possible. I definitely worried a lot about everything as a teen, so I do wish I’d relaxed more and put less pressure on myself.

Your first favourite song ‘Bad’ by Michael Jackson was the first cassette tape I bought. I wanted to be his backing dancer.

Your first shoe collection for StylistPick A dream come true! We worked together on the shape, fabrics, textures, colours and embellishments. I love 70’s aesthetics, so I turned to my favourite actresses from that era, like Lauren Hutton and Ali McGraw for inspiration.

Your first TV appearance Was on BBC Breakfast news, talking about wedding dresses being sold at a supermarket for £90. I was so nervous I was shaking and my heart raced, but

as soon as the cameras rolled I started to really enjoy it.

Your first time seeing your name in a magazine When I was about 18 still at high school, I did work experience for Brides magazine and they let me write a little real-life wedding piece. They put my name on it and I can remember running home to show my mum and dad (who is a journalist and inspired my career).

I was so excited!

Your first time moving away from home I lived in Sydney, Australia for a year when I was 19. I worked in a school as a gap year teacher and had the time of my life. The

beaches, cocktails, sports and travel are all amazing. I love that country so much.

Your first best friend A boy called Frankie who lived next door.

Your first ‘OMG’ I’m a celebrity moment Haven’t had that. I don’t consider myself a celebrity, but it is a lovely feeling when people who watch the show come up to say hello.

Plain Jane fans are the absolute best- full of enthusiasm and they seem very loyal to the show.

Monday:

Currently: An intern at Wildfox Couture in Los Angeles while finishing university.

Best bit: Being in LA, on an amazing internship, with amazing people, who make and design gorgeous clothes.

Worst bit: Only in LA for a short time.

Ambition: Would love to start my own company. My sister and I would also like to start up our own fashion label- a mix of vintage and original pieces. We would be the perfect team as she could design, I could promote. We’d start online and then a market stall to a shop and then the world!

Top Tips: When applying for an internship f you don’t hear any reply from an email, don’t be afraid to call them. Be polite and happy and remember that their inbox can be clogged up with people wanting experience and a phone call is more memorable.

So my friend Emily and I decided that we couldn’t think of anything better than getting an internship at Wildfox Couture, during reading week at university. We booked the flights and hoped for the best and thank goodness they said yes. We hopped on the plane and off to Hollywood we went.

The Intern Diaries

We’ve touched down in Los Angeles and arrive at our hostel at about 7.30pm. We dump our belongings and go in search of a rental car (pretty amazing after a 16 hour flight).

Note to self: defiantly make sure you pre hire.

We have had no luck whatsoever, everything closed at 7pm and the only place that is open is well beyond our budget. Due to start work at Wildfox at 10am tomorrow and no way of getting there, means it’s going to be an early start tomorrow.

Tuesday:

Started the day at 7.00am with our first taste of the free continental buffet.

With a blueberry Muffin in hand, we go to finally hire a car from the rental place located on West Century Boulevard. We make our trip to Wildfox Couture, about a 45-minute drive from the hostel. It’s now 10am; we are in the building and meet Megan, our mentor, who gives us our first task of sorting out the samples room!

There are boxes everywhere, and all of them have to be organised for the sample sale and ‘Project’, an event that is taking place in Las Vegas the following week. So our day was mapped out for us- knee deep in sample stock. There is something very therapeutic about tidying and labeling everything.

Our day finished at 4pm, just enough time to pop to Hollywood Blvd and check out some of the shops.

Wednesday:

We allowed ourselves a lay- in this morning, not rising until 8am and again the continental breakfast awaited us; blueberry muffin and off to Wildfox.

The aim today: Continue with yesterdays task, which we completed by just after lunchtime.

The room looked amazing and as a reward we were allowed to pick 5 items of clothing from the stock! Amazing!

Then we were passed over to Kristom the person in charge of Wildfox PR, who was sending new lines to a number of their celebrity clients, including Katy Perry, Emma Stone, Beyonce, Minka Kelly and Michelle Williams. It was then our job to decide the items to give to each celebrity. From shorts, to t-shirts, jumpers to jewellery, we had to decide what would suit our celebs, based on their individual style and size and all in the hope they would be photographed in the items.

We finished the day early and headed over to Hollywood Amoeba records where Lana Del Ray was performing and signing records. Perfect way to end the day.

Thursday:

8am rise for our usual breakfast and off for the 10am start. Today more items and beautiful props have arrived for the celebrity’s boxes for the photoshoots. All that was left to do was to ensure that all the items in the boxes were suitable for the individual we were sending them to. (This did take some Googling-just to make sure that we got the celebrity’s styling just right).

Our next job was with Katy, sorting samples for photoshoots and hanging and arranging for the new ranges for little fox: their kids range, the white label garments and their regular range. We had to make sure all items were present and correct and see what or if anything was missing.

After we finished work we went to the downtown LA Artwalk where the crowds descend on the galleries open and there is a self-guided tour of the area, galleries, bars, clubs and businesses.

1st Tuesday

Friday, Saturday and Sunday:

We had a beautiful long weekend gazing at Beverly Hills, scaling the Santa Monica Mountains and sunning ourselves. We also made a cheeky visit to Drias, the terrace club in the W hotel, one of the top 5 clubs in LA on a Saturday night, awesome!

We are now taking it easy ready for the drive down to Las Vegas for the ‘Project’ event in the Mandalay Bay hotel. Kristom is also running a club event at the Hyde in the Bellagio hotel, so Emily and I made it clear that we were going to be in Vegas at the same time and that we would love to help out! Sometimes its up to you, to make things happen.

Early rise at 6am and straight on the road to Vegas, making a pit stop at Peggy Sue’s, a 50s style diner for breakfast. The event wasn’t until the next day so we decided to take a leisurely drive up past Vegas, to the Valley of Fire. We spent a beautiful day driving through the desert and looking at the blue, red and pink hills and then drove back down to sin city and checked into the Circus Hotel.

Tuesday:

Our last day in LA/Las Vegas and also event day. After a full 15 hours sleep, which is crazy, we start moving at about 9am. We have a wonder about and a little bet on the slot machines- well we are in Vegas and when else would you get the chance to bet before 11am and get away with it. Then we walked down to the hotel where Kristom was staying.

We met an awesome guy who designed for Justin Timberlake’s brand, ‘William Rast’ who was also attending the event.

The event was with Vice Magazine and started at 9pm for us, where we set up and created the press bags for the event. At 10pm we gave out the gift bags, after which we partied the night away with the Wildfox and Vice Girls and boys until the very early hours. What a great way to spend our last night!

HOW TO . . .

MAKE A COLLAR

T

he perfect fashion accessory this Spring/Summer has got to be the detachable collar, so be fashion forward and impress your friends by creating your very own. Wear your collar with cute dresses, blouses or even a simple tee. If you’re strapped for cash you can always recycle fabric from an old dress that you’ve never worn. Download the pattern from the Teenbook blog and follow the simple steps to create a fashion must have for spring.

Things you will need: • Fabric scissors • Pins • A sewing machine • Half a metre of your chosen fabric • A needle and thread • Button or fastening of your choice • Tape measure

1 Step One

Using the pattern downloaded from teenbookmag. com place your collar and collar stand on the fold of your chosen fabric. Remember that you need to cut the pattern on the fold. You will need to do this twice .The pattern already has a 0.5cm seam allowance. Then all you will need to do is the same, but with interfacing.

Step Two. 2

Once you have carefully cut out your fabric, place the interfacing on one of your collar pieces and iron down.

The interfacing is to make the collar stronger and only needs to be applied to one side. Now place the right side together so you are left looking at the back of the fabric. Pin the collar in place and sew around the outside of the collar (where the pins are on the image) Do not sew the inside section. When sewn together, carefully make tiny cut inserts to make the collar easier to iron. Then turn the collar back the right way and iron out the edges.

Step Three.

Now that you have your collar sewn, you need to iron on the interfacing to one side of your collar stand.

The image shows how your pieces should now look.

Step Four

Now you need to sew the collar stand to the collar.

For this you need to make sure that the collar is sandwiched in-between the two collar stands. Sew along the outside of the curved edge.

Step Five

Once you have ironed down the collar stand and made sure that the curve on the stand is pressed out properly, carefully iron up 0.5cm to prepare to topstitch the collar stand.

Step Six

To make sure that the fabric stays in place, loosely tack the edges of the collar stand. Sew along the tacked edge, removing the loose thread when finished. This is to finish off the stand neatly, making sure no raw edges are showing. Your collar should now look like a collar. Just the fastening left!

Step Seven

Use snap fasteners to secure the collar, alternatively you can use poppers or hook and eyes. Make sure that the placement of your fastening is near enough at the front curve of your collar stand.

Step Eight

Finally for decoration, sew on a statement button of your choice. Now the only thing left to do is wear it with pride!

1. What looks and tips do your followers ask you for the most?

I’m always asked for everyday makeup tutorials, like natural pretty looks that they can wear daily.

But the smoky eye look is also something that they always want tutorials on, as it’s quite a popular look at the moment.

2. Can you reveal any products that are going to be hot for 2012 (or Summer 2012?)?

Well actually the new collection from Nars landed on my desk last week and it is wonderful. I was really impressed with the beautiful colours and textures. Usually though, I’m not as lucky and only tend to find out about a new product, a week before they hit the shelves.

3. What brands do you feel consistently perform well?

I could go on forever listing makeup brands that I love. There are just so many, but I would definitely say Nars, Estee Lauder and Bourjois.

4. Now that you have conquered beauty vlogging, what’s next for you?

I definitely don’t want to stop vlogging anytime soon. I know I have conquered it to some extent, but I am not done yet and I love the beauty vlogging world so much.

Alongside vlogging though, I would love to do something in TV. That’s the next step for me.

5. When I have asked your viewers what they like about you, many see you as a friend in their room, helping them get ready for a night out. How does that make you feel?

That makes me so happy! I get tweets, emails and Facebook messages everyday with comments like that and it makes me smile so much 6. Do you have any particular makeup rules you follow?

Keep it light and fresh with a touch of glamour for everyday, but don’t be afraid to play around and have fun with it sometimes. Its only makeup-it washes off!

7. What or who inspired your love for makeup and routine?

I have loved makeup and girly things all my life. I am the girliest girl ever!

8. What celebrity makeup looks do you think work best?

I love all the Victoria’s Secret models makeup looks-they are beyond gorgeous.

Blend everything! Even blend your blusher, and it will look better.

The disputed king of the UK urban music scene does it again with the new album Evolve Or Be Extinct. Wiley’s 9th official album is delivered in true punchy ‘Wiley style’. The tunes are unmistakably his. The whole album is a mixed bag of beats and serious bass spread over two discs.

From tracks like Money Man which see him perform a developed version of the original grime which he grew, to the more mainstream Boom Blast of the long lost step-brother of smash hit Wearing My Rolex. The album certainly has something to offer all Wiley fans. There are funky futuristic beats featured on the track titled Weirdo- a strange tune he spends the length of insisting that he is not bipolar. However, the amount of times he says it, it is hard not to think otherwise. Can We Have A Taxi and Customs – provides whole tracks made up entirely of pretend conversations Wiley has had trying to book a cab (admittedly one of the top most annoying/awkward tasks to date) and get through customs at the airport retrospectively. A bit random, but it does raise some laughs.

The favourite tune currently has got to be hand clapping track number two, titled the same as the album itself. If this song doesn’t do it for you, the video will at least make you want to purchase an iPad pretty sharpish, just to play with. Overall, Evolve Or Be Extinct is a standard Wiley creation. Although it is dedicated more to the original sound he christened the scene with, the new sounds he has picked up along the way and his natural growth as an artist are apparent throughout. It may be another one of many for Wiley, but it definitely proves he’s still got it.

THE REVIEWS Nneka - Soul Is Heavy

Nigerian born Nneka raises the bar with her singing standards time and time again. Soul Is Heavy, is the latest album gifted to us from the soulful sister. The album is a lyrical and spiritual delight that excites with every listen. The track list ranges from tingly-smooth beats channeling a somewhat ‘Fugees’ tone to upbeat funky soul. The latter is clearly evident in the tune V.I.P. There is a restless attitude that vibes throughout the whole record maintaining the flow between the tracks, however each one never fails to offer something new and inspiring. Although there is a pinch of collaboration in the form of artists such as Ms. Dynamite and Black Thought, the album is not over run by other people. Camouflage is a true power track tackling a serious issue, yet its impossible not to move to. Stay and Don’t Even Say are tracks about the emotions we feel towards those we engage a relationship with. They resonate as deep, and mean just as much as any track referring to the turbulent or unrequited times. However Nneka manages to capture this feeling in an alternative way, which is what makes her so special. Every subject she covers oozes with wisdom simply by the fluency of the content and the tempo at which she delivers it. It is always relevant to the subject. In all, this is full of feel-good-kick-backand-relax, be-moving-those-feet-to-the-beat or its-time-to-sit-and-think music and there is no way of shying away from it.

Wiley- ‘Evolve Or Be Extinct’

Bill Cunningham, New York Chances are, you’ve never heard of Bill Cunningham. If he cycled past you on the street you may not give him a second glance, and if you saw him hop off his bike to take pictures of a pretty young thing in attractive attire, you’d be forgiven for thinking him to be a dirty old man. Little would you know that, that very man is one of the most interesting and influential fashion photographers working today, and he’s over 80 years old.

Bill Cunningham is the man behind two regular columns for the New York Times. Evening Hours sees him documenting the goings-on of New York’s nightlife at various parties around the city, whilst On The Street gives Bill a chance to publish the photos he’s taken of the more creatively dressed pedestrians he finds wandering around the Big Apple. Models and celebrities are not of his concern; it is the clothing that catches his eye, yet the octogenarian doesn’t cut much of a stylish figure himself in a street-sweeper jacket, flat cap and duct-taped poncho.

If you think that everyone in the fashion world refuses to leave the house without being ready for the catwalk, this is a must-see, and will even appeal to those without any interest in style. It’s refreshing to see someone with a true passion, who doesn’t mind working for next to nothing, yet remains courteous, honest and immensely dedicated. To prove it, the likes of Patrick McDonald and Anna Wintour sing his praises.

he music industry has already bought us yet more weird and wonderful entertainment this year. From the unlikely duets of Dappy and Brian May, fantastic newcomers, scandalous stories and sadly some devastating losses. The industry continues to grow and the talent continues to be noticed, praised and rewarded. The last three months in the realm of music has seen a whirlwind of prestigious awards, consisting of superstars, ambitious performances and shocking results. Here is a brief A-Z of influential moments and some not so important facts from The 54th televised Grammy Awards, The Brits and the NME Awards of 2012.

Adele got cut off during her acceptance speech for her second award ‘Album Of The Year’ at the BRIT awards. Adele was very unhappy, James Corden embarrassed and the audience displeased.

Blur won the ‘Outstanding Contribution To Music’ award at the BRIT’s. They celebrated with an almighty set to close the show. Mixed reactions were posted in real time across social media sites.

Chris Brown appears at the Grammy’s for the first time since that ‘incident’ with then, girlfriend Rihanna. Various emotions from fans and critics were aired over Twitter.

Davy Jones was honoured by Kasabian - winners of Best British Band - in their acceptance speech. Sadly the singer of infamous band The Monkee’s passed away earlier that evening.

The late and great Etta James was honoured at the Grammy’s, by Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt. They performed a beautiful duet rendition of Etta’s Sunday Kind Of Love with acoustic guitar and piano accompaniment.

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, was a tower of beauty in her Alexander McQueen gown during her outstanding performance at the BRIT’s. She wowed in a total of 3 McQueen dresses that night (she is clearly a fan).

The ‘Godlike Genius’ award was presented to Noel Gallagher at the NME awards and in true godlike genius character he accepted the award by saying ‘To all the bands who have been influenced by me. You are welcome’.

Cindy Lauper’s Bad Hair Day at the Grammy’s, sported a curly black and blonde doo, scarily similar to ‘that’ past Christina Aguilera style that is not so chic anymore.

Its was surprising that Fergie wasn’t facing Indecent exposure charges after modelling a bright orange and very revealing seethrough lace gown by Jean Paul Gaultier at the Grammy’s.

Jessie J rocked the red carpet at the BRIT awards in an equally rocking red frock by Falguni & Shane Peacock. Tasteful yet tantalising in equal measures.

Katy Perry showed ex husband Russell Brand just what he’s missing whilst performing E.T and new tune ‘Part Of Me’ at the Grammy’s.

We cannot help but think the message of the song ‘this is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me’ was most probably was directed at Russell himself.

Leather gloves were not the finest part of Rihanna’s red carpet look at the BRIT awards, however the dancing in a perspex box and

At the Grammy’s Mitch and Janis Winehouse joined Tony Bennett on stage for the acceptance speech for the posthumous award Amy and Tony jointly received for Body and Soul. It was a moment to remember the extraordinary memories of not only Amy, but Etta and Whitney also.

No show’s, Jay-Z and Beyonce shun the Grammy’s in favour of a family Sunday together with baby, Blue-Ivy. To be honest we forgive them just because, well, it’s Jay-Z and Beyonce!

One Direction won their first ever BRIT award for ‘Best Single’ and got very excited about doing so. Quite right boys, congratulations.

Pulp picked up the NME award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ - what with them and Blur we think it’s safe to say Brit pop is BACK and we like it!

Quote of the night at the BRIT awards was from James Corden when Labrinth accidently walked in front of the camera during a live tele-link. ‘Really, Labrinth, I’m on the TV! Just because he didn’t get booked to perform, he’s got to get his face on there.’

We know you’re only joking James but that was a bit mean.

Rock music was dominated by the Foo Fighters at the Grammy’s this year. They received ‘Best Rock Song’, ‘Best Rock Album’, ‘Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance’ and ‘Best Rock Performance.

Six is the number of awards Adele managed to pick up at the Grammy’s, meaning she won every category she was nominated

for - not a bad start to the year for this one it seems.

The Tate Modern was the venue of choice for the BRIT’s Universal after party. The star studded bash was attended by the likes of Tinie Tempah, Rizzle Kicks, Pixie Lott and Professor Green with new love interest Millie Mackintosh.

The Uncomfortable moment when two time Grammy winner, Bon Iver’s front man, Justin Vernon states: ‘It’s really hard to accept this award’ and then continues to make digs towards the actual award ceremony he is attending and speaking at. Maybe just think it, don’t say it.

This year bought a Venue change for the BRIT awards, moving from Earls Court - the home of the BRIT’s for over a decade - to the London O2 Arena.

Whitney Houston was remembered at the Grammy’s through a stunning tribute of ‘I Will Always Love You’, performed by the wonderful Miss Jennifer Hudson. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Rest in peace Whitney.

Adele (yes, her again) caused controversy with X-rated behaviour at the BRIT’s. She flipped the middle finger in reaction to the previously mentioned cut off. However, it seemed a lot of people were on her side.

Young Money’s Nicki Minaj performed a bizarre, yet enthralling version of ‘Romans Holiday’ at the Grammy’s. The performance was a theatrical piece including a priest, dancing monks and some serious costumes.

Last but not least a massive congratulations to the nominees who walk away with Zero awards, you have been recognised by them and by us.

With a lot of hard work and a little help from Lady Luck, 24-year-old, Stacey Dooley takes us on her inspirational journey from promotions girl to becoming an accidental investigative journalist.

FEATURE and I could hear her hands going to her head. She said ‘oh god Stacey have you ever even seen Newsnight?’ She thought Jeremy Paxman was going to rip me to pieces, but I just told her it would be fine.

5. So how did you go from there to having your own shows?

The boss at the BBC watched Blood, Sweat and T-shirts and pointed to me and said who’s that one. They then asked me to come in and have a chat with them and then they asked me if I would like to front my own series. It really was a wow moment. I was a complete unknown who didn’t know what she was doing, just a young girl who had got really passionate about something. They gave me two, 1-hour episodes, which really was such a gamble to take on someone. They were thankfully well received and we then went on to do 1. It’s not because they have done something bad, or done something wrong, it’s just solely down to sheer bad luck. I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t bring you down or make you feel helpless. But what I’ve found is that when I have been in really awful places, for every bad person, there is a good one trying to counter balance.

It’s easier not to listen and pretend it’s not going on, but then if we all did that, no one would know about all these issues that are so important and need to be told. If I didn’t care so much and get emotional about these stories then I don’t think I would have the passion to keep helping them tell their stories.

8. You film in some of the most dangerous places in the world, do you ever get frightened being there?

Of course. We film for a long time and we have a massive camera with us, which unfortunately attracts so much attention at the worst possible times. I had to really have a think about whether I wanted to go to the Congo. It’s one of the most hostile environments in the world and you had to go on a weeklong training course to even be allowed in the country. On the course they kidnap you and put hoods over your head and simulate all these possible scenarios.

The BBC team was really great and really honest with me. It’s the worst place to go if you are a woman, as they use rape as a weapon and if you are white and English you are going to be walking around with red lights around you.

There are always moments when you think this has gone a little too far or you feel a bit panicked, but on the whole I have managed to come out unscathed, somehow.

9. You got Malaria on one of your trips, what happened?

I was on the Ivory Coast and it was my first time in Africa. I took the pills but it’s so hot over there and you get quite sick, so I don’t think they stayed in my system very long. I had been there for about 8 or 9 days when I started to feel really poorly, but it was the first show I did on my own

after Blood, Sweat and T-shirts so I didn’t want to make a fuss.

When the Doctor said it was malaria, you just think oh no. The only time you hear about it is on Children in Need and everyone always dies so it is scary but I stayed in the hospital for about a week for treatment. I then got airlifted to Ghana because they spoke English in the hospital there and from there got the air ambulance back to the hospital in England.

I was so well looked after and it just made me feel even more grateful for what I have. For many people who live there, they can’t get that treatment so it just makes you feel lucky for everything that we have here.

10. The last show you did was about your hometown of Luton and the trouble between The Al-Muhajiroun and The English Defence League (EDL). That must have been really personal for you, how did you feel making it?

Luton was really difficult for me to do. It’s very easy for me to go a million miles away from home and point fingers at people, say this is really bad and then get on a plane home. I thought it would be very hypocritical of me to shy away from doing the same show in my hometown.

I made the show as I think it’s a really important issue that needs addressing. The things that go on there affect the people on a daily basis. Its really easy for us to sit and say we live in a really harmonious place, when that isn’t always true. Whenever you talk about topics like race and politics everyone is always vetting what they say and no one wants to say the wrong thing. We all walk on eggshells about those subjects, but things must be spoken about.

11. Are you planning any more shows?

We are. I’ve got a really busy year this year. We are filming quite a few bits in Europe. I’m off to Asia again in April and to America in the summer, all for my BBC 3 documentaries.

12. Have you got any other projects that you are working on?

My best friend Jo and I have set up our own ethical fashion line.

Everything will be made and produced in Dharavi, by the girls that I met when I was filming Blood Sweat and T-shirts.

We are going to focus on accessories and jellewery first and nothing will be mass-produced. We are working with people in India as well as in the UK to make sure the girls are working in the best conditions. Everything will be well paid and they will be working in a clean, ethical work environment. We are all really excited about it. I never thought I would be able to have the opportunity to be doing my own shows on TV and combine that with my love of fashion too. Not only that, but involving the people I have met along the way.

We are going to launch it next year online and in stores as well as markets too. If you pick up a ring we will be able to tell you where it was made, the name of the girl who made it and how much she got paid. We want it to be a very personal experience.

Teenbook takes a sneak peek into her wardrobe, style and hectic lifestyle.

Monday:

Monday’s require comfort dressing. Men’s T-shirts and Dr Martens are my go-to items in tired times, as I am a creature of habit. I am also partial to an all black ensemble and like to inject flashes of sequins or texture to add a bit of character.

I got this vintage sequin top when a theatre was closing down and selling off all its old costumes.

The spikes on my shoulders were a DIY project (my leather jacket is around 8 years old and needed a lift) – I like how subtle yet structured they are.

Tuesday:

For work I tend to wear simple shapes and styles and there is always the black shade in there somewhere. When I first moved to Manchester I would spend hours trawling though vintage shops. I spotted this blouse and it is far too big for me, but the collar is mesmerising.

I wear it under so many things and I can transform from Sailor to Choirgirl with the change of a layer.

I spend Tuesday’s styling for the next day’s shoot so flats are a must - these leopard creeper tributes keep the look from being too girly.

FEATURE

Wednesday:

Today I was styling on a photoshoot so I dressed for comfort only. The studio can be hot one minute and freezing the next and I spend a lot of time kneeling on the floor putting models shoes on, or quickly moving around dressing them. This sort of day calls for simple clothing with no tassels or buckles that can get caught on any of the samples.

These high-waisted vintage shorts ensure I am covered up when frantically moving around and the oversized t-shirt is one of my favourites - I picked it up in Camden market. Make up is kept minimal and nails cut short - today isn’t about what I look like. Despite it being a very busy day that completely wipes me out - I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thursday:

Another day at work - another oversized T-shirt. I have no doubt that acid wash will be my most coveted look this summer. As I am so pale I love how dark grey looks against my skin tone and I couldn’t resist the asymmetrical shape of this top. The neon pocket gives it an SS12 vibe and it is perfect paired with the skinniest of trousers for a balanced silhouette. I popped my Platform heels in my bag today as I had a SS12 launch party to go to after work. Sometimes just changing my footwear can take me from day to night - I don’t feel comfortable being very overdressed so it works for me.

Saturday:

A Saturday night out for me involves indie rock and alternative music, dark clubs and drinks in plastic cups, so I am not the most glamorous dresser. Plus the cold really gets to me so you won’t find me flashing my flesh in icy Feb! All that being said, I do still like to make an effort and this dress (worn as a top) is a serious statement piece. It uses a nude mesh to give the illusion of it being cut out and has a big panther spanning from the base of my back right over the shoulder and down my chest. Again I make the most of my small waist with high-waisted shorts in a perfect plum shade, which in hindsight matched my lipstick. Finishing the look off with my big duffle bag - I have no idea what I keep in there, it weighs a ton but I can sling it over my torso and forget about it - maximum dancing can pursue.

Friday:

Often on a Friday I am feeling drained from the week and ready for a rest - as reflected in my all black outfit. A structured, simplistic shape with silver detailing ensures that I look smart enough for work with very little effort.

I bought this coat when I was 17 with much disgust from my friends. Back in the day of bomber jackets and parka’s this made me stick out like a gothic thumb. I just love the length, the 3/4 sleeves and the mass of buttons and zips, which can be slotted together to create endless ways of fastening it up. Heels finish the look off again ready for pre-weekend drinks. I have 3 wardrobes yet tend to stick to the same few items on rotation- the positive of this is finding new and exciting ways to wear a single item.

Sunday:

Sunday is my day for catching up with friends, my boyfriend and family. Today I headed out for Sunday Dinner which meant that I would be sitting down for a long period of time - perfect opportunity for breaking in new vertigo educing heels. I planned to just wear plain opaque tights with these to stop any frostbite, but then I came across these star tights in the back of my drawer and now can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier.

As the shoes are so fierce, the rest of the outfit was kept to a simple colour palette of black and camel. Stretchy trousers were selected purely for their ability to conceal any food babies post-meal - fashion and function at its best!
