maastricht This picturesque, ancient city has been serving as host to TEFAF since its inception. Developed as a Belgic settlement that was conquered by the Romans in the Gallic wars, Maastricht is now a modern city with elements of ancient Rome, medieval pilgrimage sites, 19th-century garrisons and fortresses, early industrial relics, and contemporary fashion, design and culinary destinations. Maastricht sprawls across both sides of the expansive Maas (Meuse) River, and its landmark bridges provide some of the Netherlands’ most striking views. Sightseeing highlights include the St. Servatius Basilica Romanesque basilica on Vrijthof Square, the Fort St. Pieter and its magnificent caves creating a labyrinth of more than 20,000 tunnels and the underground network of casemates. The Bonnenfantenmuseum has a collection of Old Masters to modern art. Shopping is particularly thrilling in Maastricht, which boasts some of Europe’s loveliest boutiques and famous fashion brands. Just outside the city, find various vineyards gracing the slopes of the Limburg hills.
On the mezzanine level, the Kruisherenrestaurant takes over the central church hall with its vaulted ceilings, chancel windows and original wall paintings. Inside, lighting installations by German lighting artist Ingo Mauer create an otherworldly effect. The restaurant serves a variety of culinary specialities, prepared with pure and regional ingredients. Sights in the historic centre of Maastricht are within five minutes of the hotel on foot, and during TEFAF, the Kruisherenhotel Maastricht offers a shuttle service to the MECC Maastricht.

PARIS Europe’s most romantic and dramatic destination needs little introduction; the City of Lights is home to some of the world’s most famous sightseeing attractions, including the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triumph, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Tuileries Palace Gardens, and SacréCœur Basilica and countless other historic monuments. The Louvre, the Musee D’Orsay, Centre Georges Pompidou are only the most famous of the 173 museums situated in the city, with many of its lesser-known museums outshining even the top art institutions elsewhere. Musée Picasso recently opened again after five years of construction. Other newcomers to the cultural landscape include the Fondation Louis Vuitton, designed by architect Frank Gehry. Paris is divided into 20 districts, that spiral out from the centre in the shape of a snail, each with its own flavour and identity. Historically important art districts such as Montmartre and Montparnasse are now tourist attractions, but new art districts have popped up with galleries in other parts of the city such as Belleville and Le Marais. Shopping is always a wonderful pastime at posh boutiques and shopping centres throughout the city, and specialized destinations for haute couture include the Avenue Montaigne and the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
Afternoon tea is available in the lobby bar, which also offers less formal lunch or dinner. The hotel’s Le Bar du Bristol is the new trendy spot in Paris. The Spa Le Bristol by La Prairie is a world of beauty and wellbeing offering eight beauty treatment cabins, a fitness area, a hairdressing salon and a kids club, Les Amis d’Hippolyte. On the sixth floor, the rooftop swimming pool opens onto a vast solarium taking in all of Paris.
