The art for this year's Tehachapi Mountain Festival® once again was created by the combined graphics pizzazz of the gang at 'hachapi Tees, now in their 23nd year in the biz. Scott, Christi, son Ray and gal pal Michelle put their heads together to come up with the overall layout. Ray and Michelle created the image with ink, and then Ray took over for final layout, lettering and coloring, using his usual brilliance with Photoshop, with everyone chipping in final editing ideas from the peanut gallery. Daughter Lexi kept everyone going with snacks and chit chat before heading off to her job at the AT&T store.

It’s Mountain Festival Parade time! BY DAVID, BARBARA
AND

PARADE CO-CHAIRS
The members of the Parade Committee wish everyone the best during the Tehachapi Mountain Festival®. To put on the parade takes many hours of planning and preparation. It is the hard work of the committee members that enables the parade to be put on each year. This year, about 100 entries are expected and an estimated 5,000 people will be on hand to watch the parade. The entries range from equestrians to commercial floats and color guards. The parade committee is made up of several different task groups: Entry, which makes sure that all the participants are checked in and lined up correctly; Equestrian, which handles all aspects of the equestrian groups, checking in, lining up, and judging; Route, which makes sure the parade keeps going with few interruptions. All of these tasks are managed by a great group of dedicated volunteers. Come see the local celebrities, fun floats, high school band, horses, clowns, and much more. The entries will be judged and trophies awarded to winners. If you win, don't forget to pick up your trophy at the park gazebo. The parade route is from Kmart, headed east down "F" Street. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18.
The Tehachapi Mountain Festival® is a production of the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce.

funds for good causes Warning! It’s that time of the year again when that wild bunch of Sheriffs, Desperados, and Ballroom Girls will be hitting the streets and establishments of Tehachapi. They are considered armed with Good Time Badges, looking for people having a good time without one. The Good Time Badges have the theme and official logo of the 49th Annual Mountain Festival® on them and only cost $1. All proceeds will go back into the community. Don’t worry, the City Council members are always the first to get caught having a good time without a Good Time Badge. The members of the local Moose Lodge

The 15th Annual Thunder on the Mountain Car and Truck show will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19 in downtown Tehachapi, centered on Green Street. Pre-registration of vehicles is encouraged as there is limited space. Registration forms are available at retailers throughout Tehachapi or online at www.thunderonthemountain.net If you have any questions about the event, please call 821-1781. Event parking
begins promptly at 6 a.m., with the show running from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. If you plan to attend with friends or a group, please arrive together as parking constraints won’t allow the organizers to save spaces. This year the event will again be broadcast live throughout the downtown area, beginning with an honor to our soldiers, both past and present, with Mike Heckathorn and an Honor Guard from the local VFW. Broadcasts will keep visitors up
on drawings, interviews with car owners and visitors, trophy winners and more. Music will be provided by the band “Denim.” This year there will be both 1st and 2nd place awards in each class. To see a list of all categories please visit the website at www.thunderonthemountain.net. This is a fund raising event with 100 percent of all proceeds going directly to the Eileen McPhee Memorial Scholarship and other local charity and community
organizations. Last year the show raised $25,000. In addition to some of the most breathtaking cars and trucks you’ll see anywhere, raffle tickets will be available for such prizes as an Albertson’s $500 gift certificate, a large screen LCD TV, an INFRA Red BBQ, $200 gas card, etc. There will be hundreds of smaller prizes generously donated by local businesses for drawings throughout the day of the car show.

OFFICIAL PROGRAM — TEHACHAPI MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL — 2012
Western tradition: PRCA rodeo Aug. 17-18 Excitement is in the air as the 2012 Tehachapi Mountain PRCA Rodeo approaches. This is the 49th annual performance and each year this fun-filled event seems to grow by leaps and bounds to provide the people of Tehachapi and surrounding communities with outstanding family-oriented rodeo entertainment. You are invited to celebrate true Western Americana at its best on Aug. 17 and 18 at the Tehachapi Event Center and Rodeo Grounds on Dennison Road and Highway 58. The fun begins on Friday evening, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. with the pageantry of the grand entry. The beautiful rodeo queens proudly carry old glory in on horseback to a roaring crowd, as the rodeo honors those who give us the freedom to be an American. On Saturday, Aug. 18, the rodeo will start at 4 p.m. During this performance the rodeo will give thanks and say farewell to 2011 Queen Lyndsay Kaiser along with her royal court — Jr. Queen Sierra Zimmerman, Little Miss Ariel Anderson and Tiny Miss Madison Tootle. They have served the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association well over the past year traveling throughout the west representing Tehachapi. Saturday also brings the coronation of the new 2012 queen and her court. A Tehachapi tradition returns this year right after the Saturday night rodeo with an old-fashioned western dance on the rodeo grounds. Admission to the dance is $10 and the proceeds will benefit the Small Miracles Foundation, which is a non-profit that helps families cope with the financial, emotional, and physical strain of having a child with cancer. Small Miracles was established in 2005 honoring the memory of Lauren Small. Also this year the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association will again present “Vendor’s Row” in an area just inside the main north entrance where rodeo fans can get their western “bling” with the purchase of fabulous items from jewelry to jeans or items for the home or horse. Great food vendors will offer an array of great food options. And along the south side of the arena there is expanded seating in the VIP section including the Benz Gold Buckle seating section. This year, cowboy and cowgirl rodeo athletes will be competing for more than $30,000 in prize money. come back two of the best rodeo bullfighters and one of the best barrel men and clowns in the business today. They will be protecting the cowboys and entertaining the crowd. The Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association is committed to preserving and promoting the “western way of life” and to producing quality family rodeo entertainment at affordable prices. The Tehachapi Rodeo began as a youth rodeo and evolved into an adult PRCA rodeo. This year the organization returns to its roots with the production of three junior rodeos, scheduled for July 29, Aug. 26, and Oct. 14. It is the desire of the association to educate youth on the “Western Way of Life” by providing a variety of rodeo events for competitors from

2011 Tehachapi Rodeo Royalty Farewell Lindsay Kaiser It seems as if it was just yesterday I was honored with being crowned as Miss Rodeo Tehachapi 2011. This last year has been filled with memories, laughter, exciting places, new friendships and the feeling of pride in being able to represent the town of Tehachapi and their rodeo association. With my trusty steed, Band-Aid, my Dodge truck, Dad’s trailer and Lindsay Kaiser a rodeo queen wave, down the road I went. I had the opportunity to attend many parades and rodeos and meet the friends of a lifetime. This year was no exception and it was a privilege to be involved with the children and the community of Kern County. Another aspect of my year was representing the sport of rodeo and the heritage and traditions it embraces. Some of the finest people in the world are in the livestock, ranching, and rodeo business. This lifestyle is about preserving a way of life that at times is hanging by a thread, and this lifestyle is how one day I would hope to raise my family like generations before. As the dust settles on my year, I reminisce on the challenges and the experiences that have brought me to where I am today. I am blessed to have had three wonderful parents, five siblings, and countless family who gave me a strong foundation and high moral values that have helped me become the young women I am today. Whether it was FFA show pigs, softball or rodeo, they have always been my biggest fans. Thank you to the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association for welcoming me with open arms and allowing me to be a part of your lives and your families. Angie and Amy were the most amazing queen coordinators, always taking the best pictures and having the best advice in every situation. I would also like to
give a big thank you to having the best royalty court I could ever ask for! Sierra will always have a spot in my heart cheering me up whenever possible. Ariel was the best road trip buddy I could ever ask for, always keeping me awake in our long drives by the singing, and laughing. I would also like to thank the Anderson Family; Joy Rich and AJ, I couldn’t have asked for better friends and royalty family. To my tiny princess Madison, I have high hopes of one day watching her become Miss Rodeo America. The support I have received throughout the year is breathtaking and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart, and I hope to make you all proud as I take Tehachapi to Miss Rodeo California 2013 this October. — Lindsay Kaiser
Sierra Zimmerman Welcome rodeo fans, my name is Sierra Zimmerman and I am your 2011 Jr. Miss Rodeo Tehachapi. In August of 2011 when I was crowned Jr. Miss, I was very honored to be trusted with the responsibility of a rodeo queen. Being rodeo royalty is not just about responsibility, it is about having fun with your friends and family and meeting new people. Making new friends was my favorite thing about being Sierra Zimmerman a rodeo queen. When I was introduced to my Princess Ariel and Queen Lindsay, I knew our journey together over the next year as rodeo royalty sisters was going to be great one. Traveling to many different parades and rodeos with my fellow royalty was an amazing experience. I would like to thank Ariel, Lindsay and all my friends and family for your
wonderful support during the competition and over the year of my reign. Being a rodeo queen has an amazing impact on a young girl’s life, and I certainly know it had a wonderful impact on mine. —Sierra Zimmerman
Ariel Anderson This past year as Little Miss Rodeo Tehachapi has been one of the most exiting of my life. It has been so fun representing T.M.R.A. in every possible rodeo I could get to. There have been many adventures throughout my reign like carrying flags as big as my horse and I, trying to clean the dirt off my sash and re-polish my crown after goat tying at the junior rodeo, going to restaurants with Ariel Anderson curlers in my hair, getting there way too early and way too late, but I never missed a single queen run. I want to give a thank you to the Queen (Lindsay Kaiser) for taking my horse and I all over the state to many rodeos. The biggest thank you to my best friend and horse "Lilly" for taking me around the arena many times and being so patient with all of the trailering to and from rodeos. We have become such a pair this year and none of this would have been possible without her. Throughot this year my fellow queens have been so supportive and i couldn't have hoped for better. It has been an honor representing Tehachapi all year and I would love to do it again. Thank you also to the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association and the Queen Committee for all of the hours you've dedicated and all of the amazing pictures you have taken. Your Little Miss Rodeo. —Ariel Anderson
