VIS UAL CO MMUN ICATOR
PORT FOLIO 2018
This is my collection of work from 2012-2018, which includes my personal and commercial projects. www.curiousmind.design
Who am I? I am Tejas Jagannathan and I am a Visual Communicator with a Bachelor Degree in Design from Raffles Design International, Mumbai. I was raised in the Middle East, with a reserved and introverted childhood. It’s over here that I became passionately curious about human behaviour. I love listening and understanding people’s problems and graphic design has served as a great tool to solve them. Being a designer has helped me become a better communicator, which has made me more confident. I am open-minded, opinionated, and passionate about what I do. I am a perfectionist and have a tendency to push myself and raise the level of work that I expect from myself. My confidence comes from the fact that I work hard and I am always willing to engage in conversations and bounce out ideas. I am comfortable working with pressure and tight deadlines. Any kind of challenge makes me want to work harder and do my best. I have lived in 3 countries and lived alone since I was 17. My diverse background has made me independent, adaptable and reliable in different situations. I am comfortable in my own skin and work well alone, but I truly enjoy collaborating and working in a team. Being around people and exchanging ideas is what works best for me. I am also very calm and composed, which helps me get along with most people.

Meeting of the Minds ABOUT
Created in 2015
Meeting of the minds is a self-researched, self-written and self-designed book about the numerous patterns that lie between artists from different art forms, to show that we aren’t as divided as we think we are. I compared stories of artists in regards to their childhood, mindset and finally what brings them together to create empathy. I want to show the fact that there is always something you can learn from someone. I decided to write and design a book because of the sheer research required for this topic. It had a lot of psychology and philosophy to it and only a book could do justice to the information I wanted to show.
(Major Project) Objective: Showing similarities between Graphic designers and artists in other art forms. Purpose: To motivate people to be more open to artists of different artforms “An Art form is just a language, just because you don’t understand a language, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make any sense.” - Imitation Game Medium of creation: InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop

PROMOTION (social media)
I had to promote this book to reach my target audience. I initially planned to publish my book, but that required consent from the artists I had chosen. I wasn’t able to get the consent from every artist so; I decided to upload it to social media for free, without gaining any profit. David Carson and Chip Kidd were kind enough to give me their consent and appreciated my concept, which meant the world to me. I also got a good reaction in social media and I plan to further develop this book.

The State of Architecture The State of Architecture: Practices and Processes in India organised by the Urban Design Research Insitute in Mumbai was envisaged as a thoughtprovoking programme of activities to investigate and instigate the concerns of the architectural fraternity in India. As a part of Kahani Designworks, we were the graphics and exhibition designers for the project, and were tasked with developing a visual identity that would represent the brand within the lead project, and outside of it. Creating an engaging exhibition experience to showcase the history and progression of architectural practice in India
Curated by Rahul Mehrotra, Ranjit Hoskote and Kaiwan Mehta, the exhibition The State of Architecture: Practices and Processes in India opened at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai in January 2016. For 12 weeks, the exhibition was to be the home for a diverse range of activity hosted by the Urban Design Research Institute.
Created in 2015 (Commercial Project as part of Kahani Designwork) Brief: To Design and communicate information about Architecture within a space through means of images, text and design elements. Medium of creation: InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop Our role as Kahani Designworks: Exhibition Design, Scenography, Graphic Design, Information Design, Branding, Artwork, Graphic Production. My role: 1) Entrance and entire first floor which was the statistical section of the exhibition. 2) Full-size images and certain section parts of the chronological (timeline) section of the exhibition. 3) Promotional collaterals for the event. (All pictures I have displayed below were designs I was involved in)
PROMOTION AL DELIVERABLES
The exhibition space was designed as a venue for discussions, screenings, conferences and events, serving students, professionals and the general public alike. The graphics system of plus signs and typography created for the project developed further within the space, working at contrasting scales, providing contextual backgrounds for some ideas and acting as highlights for significant historical events. The narrative of the exhibition structured the show into three zones: statistical, chronological and survey.
EXHIBITION DESIGN
As a part of Kahani Designworks, I was able to work on many projects and gain valuable experience that helped me become a better designer today. In ‘The State of Architecture, I got to work with various people from the curators writing the content, to the print team and the production team which helped me learn about the process of implementation. The design for this project was headed by Ruchita Madhok and Aditya Palsule. I was given the responsibility of creating design certain spaces as they overlooked my work. All photos mentioned had my role in making them. The State of Architecture won the following Awards: 2017 POOL Magazine ‘India’s Best Design Project Award’ in Exhibition Design. 2016 Confederation of Indian Industries Design Excellence Award in Exhibition Design. Black Elephant, Best of Show at the Kyoorius Design Awards, 2016. Brief: Create an user interface for a Bike rental application.
The Dark green colour works well with the Mint green to create more depth in the app. I have also used gradients as a background to reinforce the idea of movement. The Mint-green colour fits well with the brand’s identity of freshness, health and safety for the environment. Cycling is an enjoyable and healthy way to travel and this colour brings that vibrancy and freshness into the application.
