2016 ANNU A L
REPOR T
CHABAD ON CAMPUS CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Our Mission: To connect Jewish University students in Cape Town to each other, their heritage and their Jewish future through uplifting Shabbat and holiday services & meals, top quality social events, Torah classes and building friendships and relationships – one student at a time.
“After 2 years of being away from home and the Jewish bubble I left behind, I started to miss things like, having Shabbat dinner at home. Since the Samson Student House opened, I’m with my new family, most Friday nights. Chabad is practically my home away from home.” – Ryan Jacobson, Business Science ‘16

“After the initial excitement of going away to University wore off, I found myself feeling distant and wondering about my place in the world. Being active in community programs makes me feel connected, a part of my people and part of an extended family.” – Lara, Humanities ‘18

High Demand = Exponential Growth “As optimistic as we were, we did not anticipate this level of demand. Our first big event sold out by word of mouth. Our first Shabbat we expected 30 students and 55 showed up! BH we squeezed, it was heimish. We’re definitely filling a void that has been deeply felt for too long. This is an exciting time to be a Jewish student in Cape Town. But we haven’t even scratched the surface yet. Our work is far from done!”
– Rabbi Nissen Goldman, Director
