WHY IS TECHNOLOGY NEEDED? Efficient Curation With artists constantly generating new visuals and creating a large inventory of art worldwide, it becomes harder to find that perfect collection. Furthermore, it is easy to miss out on the latest content. Our platform allows our curators to find that artwork that meets all your criteria in no time. Art Database Often, when you see a beautiful artwork, it is difficult to find out about the artists, let alone purchase it. Our curators have done all that work, researched all our artists, and with the help of our programmers, we are building the largest curated database of digital art. Scaling & Global Access Through the integration of our partners API, we are able to add their curated collections to our database, and have our curators review the content. WHERE DO WE FIND OUR ARTISTS?

Top Design Schools Our founding team initially reached out to their alumni communities, and implemented an ambassador program at Harvard and MIT’s graduate design programs. Since, the effort has grown, and includes top design schools primarily in the Northeast.

Organic Outreach Our marketing strategies include an outreach effort towards independent artists and art communities. We receive requests everyday through various channels (website, online store, social media) and have built a robust artist portal to receive and curate submitted artworks.

Strategic Partnerships To extend our outreach to artist communities, we partnered with companies whose catalog of art includes artists worldwide. Based in Sweden, 1X is the most exclusive photography platform (less than 5% of submissions are onboarded by their curatorial team). With headquarters in NYC and in Paris, Curioos is the world leading digital art platform. Moreover, Art.com is the world’s largest art distributor.

THE COMPASS PROJECT CONCEPT

We crafted an art proposal suited to Compass’ needs. Our curators carefully looked at their property, their company brand and their high-quality guest experience. From our discussions came into being ARTlab, a rebranding of their property into a unique venue for art.

Our expertise and process provide high-quality personalization at competitive prices. For Compass we exhibited one artist per unit and made each apartment special within their portfolio of properties.

Flatbook is a professional Airbnb host with more than 500 units in North America. With the tagline ‘Where you want to be’, their short-term rentals offer an authentic stay with deep roots into the neighbourhood. Having Tekuma artists on display in their Boston apartments was a perfect way for to bring that local vibe into their spaces.

After 5 paid prototype units where Tekuma replaced Flatbook’s existing artworks, our team furnished with art 9 of their apartments, ranging from studios to 2-bedrooms. We acted quick as Flatbook wanted all units to be staged within the month.

MEET SOME OF OUR ARTISTS

Catherine Sodërberg, New York + Boston Catherine is a graduate of Harvard University’s School of Design, and experiments with sculptural and mathematically derived forms. Based in NYC, she works as a product designer and plays in the fashion and jewelry design field. Fafa Khan, Montreal Born in Montreal but hailing from Pakistan, Fafa is of Japanese and Finnish decent. Fafa, paints, dances and DJs. Her musical work inspires her to create art and graphic designs. She has held exhibitions in Montreal and in Paris. Kwaku Opoku, New York + Ghana Kwaku ‘REEZ’ Opoku is majoring in Integrated Design at Parsons The New School For Design. Art serves as Kwaku’s platform for relaying thoughts, ideas, and having social and political conversations.

Decue Wu, Boston Among other visual arts, DQ works in fashion, graphic design, and illustration. Her work has been featured in several blogs and publications including Airbnb, Vogue, Draw A Dot, and Fashionary Hand. Jeff Powers, Boston Jeff is an artist represented by Art Lifting, a benefit corporation that provides homeless and disabled artists the opportunity to earn their own income. To Jeff, art is therapeutic and gives him purpose. Alessandro Babini, Boston Alessandro is the CEO of Humon, an MIT spinoff building the next generation of sports wearables to enhance human performance. He often compares his art to the process of building a startup.

Tekuma is an emerging award-winning startup founded in 2015 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA. At the intersection of art, technology and real estate, our curation platform aims to solve the problem of exhibiting and buying art. Too much talent and creativity goes unseen. In the meantime, there is a lot of properties that could be authentic and unique. By embracing the sharing economy, we want to help people activate their living spaces into vibrant art galleries.

OUR STORY

We were students at the MIT School of Architecture & Center for Real Estate when we were inspired to create Tekuma. The idea stemmed when no one showed up to our final design presentation. This sparked the idea of displaying our work in Airbnbs. We embraced the challenge and want to solve the inefficiencies of today’s art industry. Traditional galleries are limited in real estate. With so much creative talent and plenty of walls that need it, we had to do something to connect the two. We believe good art should be accessible and Tekuma is a way to make sure that every space can be transformed into an art gallery for artists’ stories to be told and work to be sold.
