Ask a Florist What's your favorite community event you’ve participated in or organized?
I have coached the local FFA chapter Floriculture team on floral design, identification and problem solving for the past 6 years. My team has placed in the top 10 at the state competition the last few years! This year, I mentored one of my students for her senior project. She put together a practice Floriculture competition for area FFA chapters and she created a floral design class for community members. Each spring, our local museum hosts the annual “Festival of Flowers.” Each florist chooses a piece of artwork to interpret and creates stunning floral designs that fills the museum. During the festival, thousands of residents from surrounding towns come to partake in the beauty that flowers bring! It is an amazing sight! I support many local charities, including raising money for local schools. In the past, we’ve had a promotion where every 5% of a flower purchase goes to building a school library. Teleflora’s Love Out Loud campaign kicked off with the Wall of Love in Washington, DC, in Christmas 2016. Since then the Love Out Loud message has taken over Times Square for Valentine’s Day and highlighted three unique motherhood journeys during our Love Makes a Mom campaign. This past year, we’ve been busy spreading the Love Out Loud message in homes and TV screens across the world.
Christmas 2018, The Teleflora Table 14.8M Views Teleflora orchestrated a surprise holiday meal to reunite a military mom based in Tokyo, separated from her family halfway around the world in Omaha, NE. Teleflora also reunited a military family live on Good Morning America.

Has Instagram helped your business? I have grown my Instagram significantly over the last couple years and it is hands down the best form of advertising and it’s free! I use it to promote giveaways, weekly specials and recruit staff members. I have met many potential brides and customers through social media.
How do you decide what to post on Instagram Feed vs. Instagram Stories? Usually I post pretty portraits of ordered arrangements or pictures of our in-store specials each week. I link my Instagram to Facebook, so I only post on my Instagram feed what I want to show up on my Facebook page. As far as stories go, I post quick snaps of bouquets we make each day and flowers and plants we have around the shop. I also use Instagram stories to show what goes on in the shop during the day, and funny things my daughter does at work since she is there with me a lot.
How do you decide what to add to your “Story Highlights”? I think of highlights like my portfolio, so I like to keep wedding and prom pictures there along with different in-store specials. Customers can look at them anytime they want, and they are all saved.
