by Hendrik teNeues and Bernhard Kellner
We have rarely had such an extensive international spring program, with such a diverse abundance of topics. To start, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars with two brand new titles this season—a particularly special occasion for us as the iconic sports car manufacturer’s publisher of choice. Over the years, we have acquired great expertise in the automobile sector and are proud to represent many such top car brands in our books. Of particular note this spring is our Classic Car Review, a brilliant overview of classic cars worldwide, including personal insights from traders and collectors alike. In 2017, we began to develop our first titles with the renowned Dutch bookstore, MENDO. This collaboration has now evolved into a strategic partnership, together producing books that reflect both of our brands, appealing to an urban, youthful audience. The first four titles are now available: #SENDNUDES, This is Not a F * cking Street Style Book, Streets of New York, and Streets of London. The Spring 2018 program also sees the launch of our Review Book series, providing discerning overviews of ‘the best of the best,’ whether in contemporary art, interior design, garden design, or places to rent. At the same time, with The New Art Deco by Claire Bingham, we build on the sensational success of our recently updated interior design series, Living in Style.

Bringing unique artists’ perspectives to the fore, A Tribute to Flowers by Richard Fischer and The Sound of Mountains by Guerel Sahin each celebrate at once the majesty and simplicity of the most beautiful forms in nature. Richard Fischer documents and elevates endangered flower specimens with his dramatic photography studio treatment, while Guerel Sahin captures the most rugged and remote regions of the Alps, often climbing in the middle of the night to achieve his stunning images. Sahin’s book shares a number of his incredible stories and some of the silent, magical moments he has experienced in the mountains. Dive in and treat yourself! We wish you exciting new discoveries! Thank you for your interest!

70 STORIES+1 FRANK M. OREL & WILFRIED MÜLLER Porsche stands for seven decades of sports car lineage. Its grand heritage of unique design lines and technical philosophy is seen through the years in such renowned models as the 356, 550, 904 Carrera GTS, and 911. Porsche equally stands for creative breaks from tradition with innovation and the creation and fulfillment of sports car fantasies. With an outstanding track record in speed and high performance, Porsche has won the most famous long-distance races in the world: Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring. It has triumphed at great road races like Targa Florio, Carrera Panamericana, and with rally victories in Monte Carlo. Since Porsche’s founding in Stuttgart, Germany in 1931, extraordinary men and women—entrepreneurs, engineers, racers, visionaries—have collectively made the Swabian company the most famous sports car manufacturer in the world. With Porsche Visions – 70 Stories + 1, Porsche celebrates its history and its future. The book includes stunning images by Frank M. Orel, the renowned Stuttgart photographer who showcases Porsche’s masterpieces in unexpected compositions and breathtaking perspectives, colors, and contexts. The images are accompanied by highlights from the historical archive of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and texts by Wilfried Müller, who recently attracted attention with his prize-winning biography of Porsche racing director, Peter Falk. WILFRIED MÜLLER earned his first spurs as a reporter at the World Rally Championship and from all over the world he has since reported for all major German car publications. He has written several books on motor people, technology, and everything in between. As a biographer of extraordinary motorsport racers such as

World Rally Champion, Walter Röhrl, Müller explored the subject in a deeper and award-winning manner. For the past three decades, Porsche has been his passion. Born in Cologne, he lives with his family in New Zealand.

2ND REVISED EDITION FRANK M. OREL & ELMAR BRÜMMER The Porsche 64, also known as the “Type 64” and “Type 60K10,” is the great grandfather of all Porsche models. Back in 1938, the car possessed all the DNA—elegance, dynamism, and the most cutting-edge technology—that would go on to inform seminal Porsche models like the 911 or the 996. Still light years away from the sleek Cayenne of the new millennium and standard turbo-drive, this aerodynamic prototype already reached a top speed of 145 km/h. With thrillingly-staged photographs from Frank M. Orel and captivating texts from Elmar Brümmer, this book leads the reader through the origins of this premier sports car company and the evolution of its purist lightweight model, also proudly referred to as the “Berlin-Rome Car” after its participation in the Berlin-Rome long-distance race in 1939. Almost 70 years later, the spectacularly-received car still looks modern, if not futuristic, to our current aesthetic standards. While the original Porsche 64 can be admired in the Porsche Museum, this second and revised edition of Porsche Icons offers a stunning record of Type 64’s evolution and its offspring. With exclusive design sketches and historic Porsche images, this is a must-have for every classic car lover. FRANK M. OREL studied photography and graphics at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. His successful automobile photography, published in calendars,

books and magazines, has also been shown in numerous exhibitions, winning several international awards. ELMAR BRÜMMER writes on all things automobile, including Formula 1 and sports cars, for various newspapers and magazines, such as Süddeutsche Zeitung, Züricher Zeitung, Playboy and Stern.

THE SOUND OF MOUNTAINS GUEREL SAHIN
4:30 in the morning, trekking in the open wilderness of the Alps, 2,900 meters above sea level, storm clouds disappearing behind the nearest mountain, the sun rising—these are the moments when Guerel Sahin captures his best outdoor photographs. It is perhaps precisely because they are often shot in extreme situations that Sahin’s breathtaking mountain panoramas, photographs of mountain lakes, and rugged landscapes are such a social media hit. Thousands follow him on Instagram et al., while a wide audience also knows him as the face of Jack Wolfskin. Now, for the first time, he gathers his most awe-inspiring photographs in one volume, sharing insights into his life and work. Where does this longing for untouched, authentic nature come from? How does it feel to reach a mountain summit by sunrise? What if, contrary to expectations, an entire vista is obscured by clouds and photography becomes impossible? In images and words, the acclaimed star photographer shares his own emotional world in a paradigm of “Generation Instagram.” Sahin’s book is for those whom the next mountain peak and open nature cannot be close enough—for all hikers, climbers, and outdoor junkies.
Guerel Sahin is also a brand ambassador and face of Jack Wolfskin, a German producer of outdoor wear and equipment Thousands of followers celebrate his pictures online

GUEREL SAHIN, born in Kaiserslautern, Germany, studied electrical engineering, but quickly realized that it did not make him happy. Instead, he took his camera out to the mountains at every opportunity and came back with sublime photographs. Today, these images are celebrated by thousands of users on social media, and Guerel is one of the hottest German photographers of his generation. The adventurous freelance photographer resides in Kaiserslautern.
The yearning for authentic nature and the outdoor trekking trend remain as popular as ever

A TRIBUTE TO FLOWERS
PLANTS UNDER PRESSURE
RICHARD FISCHER A TRIBUTE TO FLOWERS PLANTS UNDER PRESSURE
Fifty percent of the world’s flower species are threatened with extinction. Each year, numerous flowers disappear from the face of the Earth without ever being documented. Indeed, many of these natural beauties remain as yet unknown to humankind. Photographer Richard Fischer can be regarded as an ambassador for flowers. For many years, he has staged graceful and endangered floral specimens in his photo studio, capturing the uniqueness and transience of each flower. In collaboration with the world’s leading botanical gardens, his strikingly original images provide the flowers with an aesthetic framework in which their power of expression and majesty remain intact. Fischer’s precise, yet delicate floral compositions record the unique color, form, and texture of each flower, while signaling to the extraordinary beauty, diversity, and fragility of the natural world. Fischer’s inimitable flower photographs have bestowed him with exhibitions around the world: at the United Nations in New York, the Palais des Nations in Geneva, and the renowned China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. Richard Fischer prints are much sought after collector’s items in the art photography market and calendars of his flower images appear annually. Now, for the first time, Richard Fischer brings together his best pictures spanning 15 years in one flower photography book, showcasing his artwork and little-known floral exotica. Throughout the volume, the photographs are accompanied by informative and captivating texts, leading the reader through an unknown and dwindling world of flowers.

LIVING IN STYLE THE NEW ART DECO CLAIRE BINGHAM
What does a contemporary Art Deco interior look like to you? Is it glittering and cabaret-like, featuring marabou trims, sequin scales, and striking chevron stripes? Or is it elegance personified in the manner of a Marlene Dietrich trouser suit—soft and well-tailored, but accessorised dramatique? Through jewel-like furnishings that light up the room, ornate mirrors as beautiful as brooches, simple Japanese-style lighting, and bold, curvaceous furniture shapes, join design journalist Claire Bingham as she tours the most sumptuous, modern day Deco interiors—at home, on holiday, in restaurants and bars. Spanning ritzy venues to sublimely-styled houses, Living in Style The New Art Deco is all about 21st century Deco-inspired interiors—vivid, glamorous, polished, and self-assured. With chapters focusing on all facets of the Art Deco look, including designers, design details, paint palettes, and Art Deco accessories, this gorgeous interiors book opens the door to exclusive, charismatic, contemporary Deco spaces and offers abundant Art Deco design ideas and inspiration for beginners and experts alike. Vintage photographs contextualize the featured interiors, showcasing the icons of Art Deco that have immortalized the era and style. #SENDNUDES If you spend a reasonable amount of time online, chances are you may have stumbled across the phrase: #SENDNUDES. A staple of millennial lingo, the term is used to request sexually explicit photographs, typically over text messaging and dating apps. Over time, #SENDNUDES has also evolved into a meme, deployed as a common punchline in image and video internet jokes. Today, #SENDNUDES is making another transition—as the title of a carefully curated book of nude photography. In collaboration with Iman Whitfield, MENDO reached out to photographers all over the world and asked them to send their favorite shots of female sensuality and intimacy. The result is a visually stunning photo collection approaching erotic photography from a female point of view, celebrating the diversity of female beauty and body confidence, and teasing the delicate line between that which is revealed and that which remains private. The featured images were sent from all over the world, from such highly skilled erotic photographers as Dennis Swiatkowski, Fauve Bouwman, and Paul Bellaart—each bringing a distinctive style and approach to female sensuality, intimacy, and elegance. IMAN WHITFIELD is a creative director and (fashion) film director. She graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy with a video series titled „LoveStories“ that went viral. Since then she has created fashion films for major brands like Scotch & Soda, Nike, Suitsupply, and Lois Jeans. Iman loves to observe people and their characteristics, constantly capturing those around her on film or through photographs.

CONTEMPORARY ART REVIEW ANTONIA VON WEICHS
The contemporary art scene has been booming for years. From major art events like the Venice Biennale and documenta to Frieze and the Art Basel art fairs, a record number of visitors around the world flock to survey, critique, and buy contemporary art masterpieces every year. Private art collectors have become indispensable lenders to major museums and sometimes make their acquisitions accessible to the public; and in auction houses, contemporary artists have long since surpassed some of the classics. With the ever-shifting abundance of hot new artists and contemporary art trends, it’s barely possible for even the experts to keep a discerning overview. For budding art collectors looking to invest in contemporary art, it is increasingly difficult to discover and decipher what are currently deemed the ‘most important’ contemporary art galleries. This is the purpose served by Contemporary Art Review: a crisp, clean survey of the most influential players in the contemporary art scene, featuring all the leading contemporary art galleries, their most notable works, and their most relevant and significant artists, from big names to exciting contemporary artists on the rise. For the art connoisseur as well as the curious new art collector alike, Contemporary Art Review offers swift entry into a world not easily accessible.

JEAN-FRANCOIS KOENIG ARCHITECT
In many regards, architecture of the 21st century has to fit a square peg into a round hole. It should be energetic and meaningful and yet be as sustainable as possible in all details. It should offer ample and proportioned space for its inhabitants, but also fit harmoniously into its environment. Architect Jean-Francois Koenig has been meeting these requirements for four decades. With the goal of improving the life quality of the inhabitants and users of his buildings, he sets out elaborate aesthetic designs that also include infrastructure and transport connections. The projects in Jean-Francois Koenig’s portfolio—including offices, private houses, hotels, public buildings, and schools—reflect his enhancement and integration of the many facets of urban life. When he won the third prize in a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) competition in 1979, with Norman Foster as judge, Koenig was the only architecture student among the winners. Even at that stage, his sketch for a pedestrian link between Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square demonstrated his sense for the city environment, not to mention his outstanding graphic talent. One of Koenig’s many esteemed projects is the Commercial Bank on the island of Mauritius, Koenig’s native home, where he continues to reside. JEAN-FRANCOIS KOENIG was elected one of the “100 Architects 2012,” a competition organized by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the Korean Institute of Architects (KIA). In the 1980s, he worked with the RIBA Gold Medal Award architect, Sir Philip Dowson. At the 2011 UIA World Congress in Tokyo, under the heading “Sustainable by Design 2050,” his Mauritius

SERGE RAMELLI LOS ANGELES
Photographer Serge Ramelli turns his lens on the vast and complex coastal metropolis of Los Angeles, whose name “City of Angels” reflects its Spanish-Mexican influence, although it is most familiarly and affectionately known by its acronym: “LA.” Despite the city’s relatively short history, this Californian hub has been the global center of the film industry for over a century. Stars and starlets have always felt at home beneath their celestial counterparts as seen in a twinkling LA sky captured in Ramelli’s celebrated night photography. A place of contrasts and stark topography, Los Angeles is well situated for drama and spectacle—flanked by mountains to the north and east, demarcating the San Fernando Valley, opening to the south and west onto Santa Monica Bay, and the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. Beyond Paramount Pictures Studio and a breathtaking landscape, the Los Angeles map boasts universities and museums, concert amphitheaters and opera houses, and is home to cutting-edge air and spacecraft industries. It is a geographic region as well as a place in our collective imagination that embodies the American Dream: freedom, space, home ownership, ambition, and pursuit of luxuries, large and small—while the accompanying urban density, crime, and smog are harsh reminders of its flip side. Featuring a stunning selection of vibrant and varied photographs, this Los Angeles photo book from YellowKorner star Serge Ramelli captures all the dichotomies and allure of this storied Californian metropolis. Candid and posed, color and black and white, romantic and documentary, Ramelli’s images is a dynamic visual journey through a fascinating and seductive city.

COLORAMA For forty years, the Colorama dominated the east wall of New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, where it was seen by thousands of people passing through each day. The massive backlit transparencies measured 60 feet wide by 18 feet tall and changed every few weeks between 1950 and 1990, resulting in a total production of 565 Coloramas. Eastman Kodak Company conceived of the imposing size and vibrancy to demonstrate the brilliance of color photography, and thus, the company’s color film products. At a time when color photographs were seen by many as garish or prosaic, Eastman Kodak sought to mass-market color photography, just as the company had marketed shapshot photography since it introduced the Kodak camera in 1888 and the Kodak Brownie camera in 1900. The idealized lifestyle presented in the Coloramas was intended to celebrate family or travel snapshooting, reinforcing the idea that color photography was the best way to memorialize all of life’s moments. The Colorama display in Grand Central Terminal was one of the longest and most successful corporate marketing campaigns of the twentieth century and continues to be examined in the context of the history of advertising and color photography.

CHRISTIAN TAGLIAVINI Since the beginning of his career, Swiss photographer Christian Tagliavini has been fascinated by mise-enscène photography and Renaissance portraiture. Referencing the painting style of the Old Masters, his carefully-staged photo portraits exude the dignity and composure of 15th and 16th-century courtly culture, meticulously replicating their dimensions, framing, and chiaroscuro effects. After his breakthrough with the series 1503, Tagliavini returns to the art historical theme with his new series, 1406, published for the first time in this book. In his process, however, Tagliavini takes a step further back from the Renaissance artist ideal, presenting himself instead as a “photographic craftsman” who designs each of his costumes and props by hand with a small team. Particularly elaborate was the work on his most extensive series to-date, the Jules Verne-inspired Voyages Extraordinaires, for which Tagliavini constructed entire scenes according to both historical models and descriptions from Vernes’ novels. All of Tagliavini’s series are meticulously composed mise-en-scènes with a stunning, fantastical effect partly reminiscent of his early photographic idols Jeff Wall, Erwin Olaf, and Gregory Crewdson. This Tagliavini monograph includes all of his photographic series to-date as well as the images documenting the evolution of his work at monthly intervals. The result is both a comprehensive Tagliavini catalogue and a fascinating insight into the working process of one of the most original and talented photographers working today.

CHRISTIAN TAGLIAVINI was born in 1971 and grew up in Italy and Switzerland. Before his photography career, he worked in engineering and architecture firms and as graphic designer, as reflected in his comprehensive approach.

YORAM ROTH NUDES IN STEEL
Our daily lives are overwhelmed by visual stimuli. Amid this abundance, German-born fine art photographer Yoram Roth invites the viewer to linger and interpret his imagery by staging deliberate, timeless, and distilled scenes. This luxurious new coffee table book, Nudes in Steel, gathers Roth’s latest works that have a particular focus on the human body. The collection spans four Yoram Roth series, each of which bring image details to the foreground with the help of steel frames. Thematically, the series is inspired by Renaissance and Baroque painting and evolves from narrative work (Quiet Devotion); a play of light and shadow (Personal Disclosure); a new emphasis on figuration (White Set); and a staging of the fragile human body in a harsh, inhospitable environment (Brutalism). Nudes in Steel takes the viewer on an intense visual journey through Yoram Roth’s photographs, carefully curated and juxtaposed in book form. Browse through the pages and take the time to let this artist photographer capture your imagination.

DAVID DREBIN LOVE & LIGHTS
Internationally-acclaimed art photographer and multidisciplinary artist, David Drebin, is renowned as a story teller par excellence. Whether elusive shots of glamorous and mysterious women or ethereal cities or landscapes, Drebin’s photographs and other art forms are bestowed with a unique combination of voyeurism, intrigue, and surrealism. Now, in Love & Lights, the New York-based artist takes on the next chapter in his narrative-led art with his works in neon. In gleaming colors these dazzling installations reveal the secret thoughts of the models and femme fatales who inhabit some of his most iconic photographs. At turns—cynical, witty, eloquent, sexy, and wistful—with each piece using color, light, and disarming intimacy to maximum effect. Presented at select galleries worldwide, David Drebin’s neon light installation works are produced in limited editions with the highest levels of contemporary craftsmanship. Love & Lights is a luxurious collector’s edition coffee table book of Drebin’s neon works, the fifth in his series of books with teNeues, featuring an eye-catching lenticular cover, as well as three unexpected gatefolds. With a foreword by global art expert Magnus Resch, the book is a comprehensive review of Drebin’s continued storytelling via neon light installations, in which the tension, passion, and drama that characterize his work acquire a turbocharge of fluorescence. DAVID DREBIN, a graduate of Parsons School of Design, began his career in commercial photography and then he quickly made a name for himself advancing into the world of contemporary fine art. Over the years, his filmic signature style has evolved into other art forms,

including neon light installations and the revolutionary “photo sculpture.” Collected worldwide, David is represented by some finest art galleries, including Camera Work, Contessa Gallery, and Fahey Klein, amongst others. His work has been shown in multiple exhibitions over the last decade and has been featured at many of the most prestigious art fairs.

BIOGRAPHY NEW
SÔNIA BOGNER A PICTURE BIOGRAPHY
The Brazilian model Sônia Ribeiro first met the former ski racer and fashion designer Willy Bogner, Jr. in the 1970s. It was love at first sight and the pair got married just a short time later. A tabloid sensation, the Bogners were a golden couple, feted by the press and public alike. Professionally successful, they worked tirelessly to modernize and develop their family skiwear and sportswear brand, Bogner, established in 1932. The Bogners also braved family tragedies like few other couples. Perhaps it was precisely these devastating hardships that made their relationship so strong, cementing a lifelong love between two very different people: the Brazilian and Bavarian, the sun worshipper and snow fanatic: “Fire and Ice.” Sônia Bogner died suddenly in 2017. This illustrated book, Sônia Bogner – A Picture Biography, is a tribute to her: a testimony to her as a person, her work as a designer, and as one of the most multi-faceted and fascinating figures of the German fashion world. Created in close collaboration with her husband Willy, the book gathers the best and most personal Sônia Bogner photographs. Patricia Riekel, former Editor in Chief of Bunte, describes the Brazilian matriarch’s exceptional life story, drawing on numerous interviews with her closest companions.

MADELEINE EMO CAPODILISTA BOUQUET DE CROQUIS
Sketchbooks often reveal fascinating aspects of an artist’s perspective. Charting the development of an artwork, they trace back to both an original idea and preceding compositions. Spontaneous first sketches contain a number of unrealized inspirations, personal encounters, and tangential snapshots. They are a creative record of everyday life. The delightful, playfully charming, and very personal sketches in Bouquet de croquis from Madeleine Emo Capodilista are works of art unto themselves. Whether the final piece stands alone or is juxtaposed with early ideas, each of these sketches is equally unconventional and inspiring. This book traces 40 years of Emo Capodilista’s creative polyglot work through her drawing book highlights. The sketches give insight into her life and practice—from her exciting, bohemian life in Paris in the 1970s through to the contemporary art scene in London today. Famous artists, personalities, and many characters of all walks of life feature in this colorful picture of a contemporary artist who, coincidentally or not, likes to write from right to left, just like another luminary of the artist’s sketch book, Leonardo da Vinci. MADELEINE EMO CAPODILISTA grew up in the Dutch province of Friesland, an influence to her both emotionally and artistically, before moving to Brussels. After a humanistic education, she attended the Académie Julian in Paris to study graphic design. From Saint Germain and the Rive Gauche, Emo Capodolista then relocated to theatrical Venice. Today, with her homebase in London, Madeleine receives commissions primarily from France, Belgium, and Germany, but already has her eye on Amsterdam.

HERNO
IN FLUMINE EST VITA All over the world, “Made in Italy” is synonymous with exceptional design and superb quality. In its history and tradition, Herno is a company which exemplifies this seal of quality. On its 70 th anniversary, Lesa-based Herno now shares its company history in this luxurious coffee table book. Founded in 1948 by Giuseppe Marenzi, the company first made its mark with raincoats. With its location on the edge of Lago Maggiore and the Erno river, there was high demand for top-quality waterproof jackets. In the subsequent years, the company and its portfolio grew: cashmere coats were added, with the particularly successful “Double Face” processing. The method, which makes seams invisible, became the unmistakable trademark of Herno in the 1960s. Since 2007, the family business has been led by Claudio Marenzi, the youngest son of the founder. He initiated a new way of thinking about the manufacturing process, putting the functionality of the products in the foreground and investing in new materials, which offer higher breathability and performance. Season after season, Herno has brought out innovative and functional outdoor collections, combining classic cuts, top quality tailoring, and modern elements into luxury outdoor clothing for men and women. Herno – in flumine est vita presents the history of this innovative fashion label with archival and contemporary images as well as illuminating texts. Get inspired by this family business, which has continually grown and developed, while never losing sight of the high standards of Italian tailoring and quality.
