INTRODUCTION

We are living at the turning of a tide. The processes that have been running in our country are changing and that change is both interesting and complicated. Probably, by now, most people will have realized that the old post-Soviet model of life is out of date. In it’s place new values, senses and forms of social system are coming. So, a lot of challenges are presenting themselves to us; and because of this, the process, of regeneration and reconsideration, is anything but simple for each and every individual. This applies equally to society as a whole. This was the motivation for the creation of Teplo Misto Platform, and it is no accident that it comes exactly at this time; it’s main task is the search for and implementation of solutions, helping to accomplish this complicated transition as quickly and smoothly as possible.

The right ideas unite the right people with the necessary resources.

From the very beginning we understood that one of the most important principles for us is consolidation and cooperation. This principle holds enormous potential, not yet acknowledged completely in our country. It is worth mentioning that the platform owes its most important successes exactly to this principle. Teple Misto Platform today is not only a team of managers or a Supervisory Board, but is also a network of more than 500 sponsors, 100 volunteers, 40 business partners, 10 partner organizations and thousands of supporters in Ivano-Frankivsk and in Ukraine. With appreciation to you all, in this report we share the main achievements of the platform, all from within the first 20 months of its activity.

Teple Misto Platform began to be regarded as outside the norms of the daily routines of life. Maybe not all the projects are easy to understand at first; some of them have met with a mixed reaction, but that is not because they are either good or bad, but because we are not accustomed to living in these new conditions. Teple Misto is as necessary for Ivano-Frankivsk as morning exercises or breakfast are for a person.

Yuriy Fylyuk, Chief of Teple Misto Platform Managing Team

Teple Misto Platform rallied people with different ideas, different life experience and different purposes, who, even though they are young, are professionals in their branches. Diversity is the strength of our team. Our strength is also our belief that each citizen of Ivano-Frankivsk is a unique story of the city, a part of a particular mosaic of today. We wish the city to be interesting, environment-friendly, comfortable and warm. So what has been done during the last year, and what are the new tasks to be undertaken? In my opinion, the main achievement was the creation of a gravity point, attracting all positive ideas and projects.

The mission of the Supervisory Board is not to show the right direction, but to help to understand the ultimate outcome. Just imagine 12 self-sufficient persons, each of them full of ideas for their own projects. There is bound to be much surprise watching how the Teple Misto team raises the bar higher and higher. With every new project every one of us feels a surge of energy and begins to look for additional resources for our own projects and for the platform. Henry Ford said once: “You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas. Enthusiasts are fighters. They have fortitude. They have staying qualities. Enthusiasm is at the bottom of all progress. With it there is accomplishment. Without it there are only alibis”. All together we will turn our idea into reality, because our hearts are full of enthusiasm. We will help our city to wake up and to change. I believe in that.

MISSION AND VALUES OF TEPLE MISTO PLATFORM Teple Misto Platform is a platform for initiatives and the synergy between them. Mission Creation of new possibilities for self-fulfillment of Ivano-Frankivsk citizens, to attain a high quality of life in the city through major capability, confidence and ambition. Vision A progressive modern warm city with warm people in it. Warm attitude, warm cafes, warm people, warm relations, the “small is beautiful” ethic. You get a sensation that here is something more than money can buy, a feeling of touching some profound values through simple people around you. And hence a striking difference from the “corporate culture” of great cities arises. “Warm” means also natural, devoid of any artificiality. Absence of artificiality manifests itself in everything: materials, food, nature, relations. “Warm” means to have an individual character. This is by no means an attempt to catch up with the modern trends, this is a search for our own essence and a demonstration of the most positive aspects of this. If it’s a question of competition, people and businesses only compete in generating more warmth. Values

volunteers of different specialties, in par 20 ticular designers, architects, decorators, cyclists took part in the project.

The project aims to experiment and to create new ways of interaction in space, to focus citizens’ attention on alternative, ecological modes of travel in the city. A new parklet is also a way of landscape gardening, a demonstration of how to use several bicycle parking pillars instead of a car parking lot. The project was a successful example of the community engagement on all projects stages. The parklets were installed on the square in front of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council. These were the first parklets to be installed in Ukraine.
