BALLOON BEACON Brno, Czech Republic Workshop A net of 15 observation and signal towers spread in Brno and its surroundings. That was a main task for 15 students of Faculty of architecture at BUT in Brno. During the 2-days workshop each student made a study and model of an observation tower that would in case of emergency send a signal to the next tower. Then the sign should be dispatched through all the towers. It should be visible both during the day and at night. The main concept of the Balloon signal tower is based on satisfying the signal function requirement in case of emergency. Plan has a triangular shape which rotates upwards to the second, smaller, triangle which is turned 180째. Inside the tower is hidden a canvas that blows up and makes a signal if it is needed. A colour of the canvas is red. During night the balloon is illuminated and blown up by a flame. The whole structure functions on the system of a hot air balloon.

02

ISB International School of Berne Berne, Switzerland Burckhardt+Partner AG The school will continue to serve students from ages 3 to 19 and is one of 200 schools in the world authorized to provide all three prestigious International Baccalaureate Programmes: Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma. The project’s first phase is highlighted by a LEEDS-certified school building for 400 students.“skin” of the shopping center, the leisure center with multiplex cinema appears as a monolithic structure. In both buildings, the ground floor is architecturally disassociated from the upper floors, whereby an appropriate scale is achieved. With a total sales floor area of 46,000 m² for around 100 shops, restaurants and bars, the “Mall of Switzerland” will be the largest shopping experience center in Central Switzerland, and will embody Swissness, both inside and out. In addition to the news above, the school has recently shared the below points, through the Berne Economic Development Agency (BEDA), with its constituents in the local, expat, diplomatic and corporate communities:

03

TREE HOUSE PAVILLON Rietepark Zßrich, Switzerland HSLU Whole building is based on three walls, which works as a support structure and each wall is used with its function at the same time. They’re staircase, technical room / toilet and bench / shelter. The shape adapts to the natural conditions. The building takes the form of trees. The interaction between the trees and the house is given by the opening in the floor. Upstairs is lookout platform, that is used as a cafe in the summer.

04

JELLY BEANS Luzern, Switzerland HSLU Jelly beans are small sweets which are made in different colours and tastes. They are so small that you can put more of them in your mouth and mix several flavours together. Every time there are different flavours, sometimes the same and sometimes there is a new taste. So also each of sections of route has different qualities, atmospheres and residents. By adding new moods, activities or environmental designs, the place can either be activated and increase the existing structures and atmospheres, or a voltage / friction generated by a contrast. In both methods, the individual properties and atmospheres of the sections are examined carefully, as well as the users, the residents and their needs.

Central Station The first railway line between Lucerne and Interlaken, the so-called Brünigbahn , was built in 1888 and led you on the edge of the city Lucerne over the mountains. In 2005, the Brünigbahn and the Luzern- Stans- Engelberg -Bahn merged to form what is now a central path. That path is an important route between Luzern- Engelberg and Lucerne -Interlaken which brings people to work and back and also the tourists to Swiss attractions. Due to the enormous population growth and the expansion of the city, the railway line is no longer on the periphery, but takes you through the diverse neighbourhoods of Lucerne. In a vote on expansion of the Central Railway was decided, among other things, that the route between Lucerne and the Kriens Mattenhof station is lowered and extended. Thus, the train noise is removed from the city and there is a vacant and currently still unplanned piece of land in the length of about 2 km in the middle of the city.

JELLY BEANS | OLD STABLE My concept is based on the analysis. The main idea was to give this place a new taste. The place is now divided to different worlds, people and buildings. The intention sounds clear. The world, the people and the building must be in harmony. On one side there is a quiet forest standing opposite a noisy road called Eichwaldstrasse. The idea was to build a barrier between this high-traffic road and the forest, but at the same time not to build a barrier between these two worlds. Therefore, the building stands on pillars and allows a communication between those two environments. Because of this support there is also necessary to build a parking and people can walk through the supports of construction. The idea was to create a meeting place for new residents and people who pass through the area. The main effect has a more than 150m long side façade to the road Eichwaldstrasse. The facade has a glass strip cladding. Each piece is coloured. In its entirety, it forms a compact image. From the bottom or front part of the building, you can only see the glass strip, but when you stand at the beginning or end of the street, you can behold the whole picture. The apartments are two storey maisonettes for different people, of different character, properties, and several large groups. The apartments are divided into different sizes. They are from 70m2 - 200m2 large and contain also a common area for all residents. On the first floor there is a social area and upstairs a rest space. Portico is oriented to the east and terraces to the west. There is a restaurant on the ground floor below the apartments. It is located on the corner of a busy intersection of the quarter. It also functions as a cafÊ, bar and in the summer there is a summer garden. Roof of the restaurant is used as a large terrace where residents can spend time and relax.

DESIGN CHAIR Brno, Czech Republic Vavavoo FA VUT Brno This very comfortable armchair was designed for young students who spend a lot of time reading books, studying and sitting behind laptops, don´t like sitting at the desk, don´t have enough time to tidy up and enjoy a leisure time with friends. The armchair can be used in many different ways. During the day for sitting or just for fun hang from the ceiling. If it is needed it can be put upside down to hide mess from unexpected visitors, or can hole into the shell and lull oneself.

GREY MATTER MATTERS

Gebäudestruktur 25,17 MJ/m2a

Gesamtgebäude 67,32 MJ/m2a

Gebäudehüllzahl 0,77 m2/m2

SAVING GRAY ENERGIE – flooring, columns/ pilars ORIENTATION – situation to the East, get ligt inside, shape of the building – thin + circles CONNECTION + DIVISION – space dividend into 3 parts – SOCIAL ZONE, REST ZONE and STAIRCASE My konzept was affected by this 3 aspects. Gray energie is saved by the columns. The thickness is changed by narrowing of the columns and also by emptiness of them is changend. They were designed this huge size, to fell the massive power of it. As many flooring as possible are used to utilize as much posibble floor area. Clear ceiling height is 2,6m and every floor is moved half storey up or down. There is also part oft the building, where the floor does not change his height and can be used for handicapped people. Parts of the building are dessigned of different dimensions and for different people of divergent ages and different character. Ring apartments are diffrent dimensions. Distribution is by two, three or four circle apartmens + on different places are located balconies. Under the groud are located parking places and whole building is interconnected by the lift and staircase. Radius of one round is 3m, soo one apartmen makes 28.3 m2. Main thought is freedom of choice. To be able having a choice of wide range different sizes and different looking apartmens. Buildings are oriented to the East and have slim shape to catch the sun. To this is adapted the shape of circle. I wanted to let the building breath . Than this space can move – expand and taper. Space is than devided into the parts. Closer , were can you relax, be alone or open space for the social occasions.. Urban plan is designed like conection of network to connect people together. Four building are situated in the village Volketswil on the wide main thoroughfare. They are connected by the kinderkarden, which takes part above the street and highway. CONNECTION is the key word of my project.

07

CUBE Luzern, Switzerland 3d - Rhino, Photography HSLU T1 – space and body Through the first task I quite well acquainted myself with the Rhino programme. With simple commands (such as Move, Extrude, Scale, Rotate, …) I reached pretty interesting results. I also tried to work with render and light.

T2 – settlement and surface distribution During the second task I improved my abilities. I worked with the body from previous exercise. I enlarged, extended, reduced, rotated and placed into the cubes different parts of model. After that I took them and settled by the object. Then spread on the surface of the body and built model. I used glass | selected plastic foil because whole facade is glazed.

LABorARTorI Brno, Czech Republic Bachelor work FA VUT Brno

Architectural solution: Building is situated on the corner of busy roads. Thanks to the location it is a very exposed landmark. Founding a new institution helps to attract people. That is important point. The mass of LaBorArtorI is divided into various parts and shapes according to the functions and respecting surroundings, service and dwellers. A synergy of several functions helps the service. There are used words as a space, light, variability, passable block, simplicity and purity in the contrast with expressions: city walls, traffic, non-functionality, impermeability. The structure offers open and flexible spaces with various heights, atmospheres, shapes and character. One of the most important features of gallery is lighting. The longitudinal mass of gallery is illuminated by diffused day light from north penetrating through polycarbonate sheets. Bottom part of the object is covered with metallic horizontally divided plates. They function as shading against summer sun light. Shape of the building allows better pedestrian connection around and through a whole block. A form is generated by several aspects: e.g. program effectiveness +contest of the city + man + function + structure + light = final mass.

10 EYE ABOVE PONAVA Brno, Czech Republic Viewpoint FA VUT Brno Discontinuities and incoherence are the key factors of an urban concept of the area Ponava which has an unclear character. The project solves a territory among a decaying football stadium, swimming pool ‘’Lužánky’’ and Tesco shopping centre. Proposal unifies projected objects, terrain form and a specific design of a lookout. It is closely connected to a unique history of Ponava and at the same time to new proposed commercial functions as a trade, services, catering, recreation and specifically accommodation for sportsmen, swimming pool, wellness etc. The other important thing is a motif of continuous connection of greenery of the city core and landscape greenery on the north of Brno (CHKO - Czech expression for a protected landscape area – called ‘’Moravsky kras’’ as an ideological base for future changes of a brownfield area where is situated an engineering complex named Kralovopolske strojirny). The ‘’green line’’ goes through an open part of a high rise building, recreational area of the former football stadium, the lookout above Ponava and the industrial area Kralovopolska outside the city Brno. The only higher located place of the area Ponava is a small hill which perfectly fits for building a lookout there. Access roads go from the Tesco shopping centre, the swimming pool, the former football stadium and from a newly built bridge from Tesco, accommodation for sportsmen and recreational centre. The shape of the lookout was influenced by natural paths made by the locals. The main goal of the proposal is that the area still lets anyone to go through and it does not build over the things which work there now. From a top view paths remind an eye. That also had an effect on a shape of the lookout and its round form. To one half of the lookout is the circle base spreading and conversely. Concentric circles are made of 12 pieces of a glued timber. The staircase is leading along the inner perimeter of the pavilion. It is fixed to a gap between particular layers of planks. Modules between them have the same system. Particular parts are strengthened by steel thin cables.

MOS Mall of Switzerland Ebikon, Switzerland Burckhardt+Partner AG

The “Mall of Switzerland,” to be built on the Schindler Group’s unused land reserves in Ebikon, Lucerne, shall be one of the largest shopping centers in Switzerland. This project will provide the heterogeneous agglomeration area in Rontal with an urban structure to accommodate the growth in the region. At the heart of the new ensemble is the central plaza EbiSquare, where open-air events can take place. From here, access is provided to not only the “Mall of Switzerland,” but also to the leisure center, the hotel tower and a new residential building project. The individual volumes and their respective functions are also clearly differentiated by their architectural language. Media can be displayed on the facades of the two public buildings used for shopping and leisure; the ground floors are glazed

“skin” of the shopping center, the leisure center with multiplex cinema appears as a monolithic structure.
