John Tarran - Lotus 61 originally built in 1969 and sold to a gentleman called Wimm Beers who ran a race team in Holland. It won the Dutch FF Championship in 1970. This is why the vehicle is painted dark blue red and white as these are the colours of the Netherlands Flag. Not much is known of the vehicle after the early 70’s. It arrived in Australia around 1982 imported by Bill Harris of Alexis race cars. It was sold as a rolling chassis to Jeremy Kenyon and then moved onto Jeremy Braithwaite who rebuilt it and gained the first Australian Formula Ford Historic Log Book. Jeremy and others drove it very well during his ownership and also took the vehicle to race in the US. Keith Edwards purchased the vehicle in the late 1990’s and carried out a freshen up and we purchased in 2001. I have raced the vehicle every year since and we have rebuilt it several times. Competing in the vehicle has allowed us to travel the Eastern States of Australia and we have met some characters and made great friends along the way. Running the car is a family affair with my mum Rosemary and John Snr and my long suffering partner Karissa all working to keep the vehicle race ready. Paul Liston and Joe Farugia from Listec Race cars are always on hand to help out with chassis and suspension repairs when needed. The vehicle is entered under the “Black Pig Racing” banner as I had an old black pig, a pet called Kevin, who recently passed away after 16 years. He was a favorite among my motor racing mates. We have raced the vehicle in Historics, State racing and also several National FF rounds. The vehicle has competed at Bathurst 4 times. I am an automotive service manager running a workshop specialising in Kia and Isuzu Ute vehicles. I have been in the motor industry for over 30 years. I have a collection of Land Rovers which date from 1948 through to the early 80’s Hopefully we can continue racing as a family with this vehicle for many years.
