Reef Trust Tender – Wet Tropics New funding available for Nitrogen Use Efficiency The Reef Trust Tender - Wet Tropics is a new $5m Australian Government initiative to help improve Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) on sugar cane farms in the Wet Tropics natural resource management region. It is a four year Programme in the Wet Tropics that offers financial incentives of up to $500,000 to sugar cane farmers to improve their NUE and farm sustainability. The Programme is a component of the Australian Government’s Reef Trust Programme and is delivered in partnership with Terrain NRM. It aims to address nitrogen discharge from the Wet Tropics, one of the biggest known risks to the Great Barrier Reef.

How to apply Sugar cane farmers in the Wet Tropics can apply to improve their NUE through a market-based competitive tender. Successful tenders are awarded based on the best value for money in improving nitrogen use efficiency on farm. Successful applicants will receive annual payments equal to their tender until 2018.
