Tommie Mabry —As a child growing up in one of the roughest neighborhoods in Jackson, Mississippi, Tommie’s life was a rollercoaster ride. He knew the difference between right and wrong, but wrong seemed to always follow him. After getting in and out of trouble, he decided to go a different route. This all began when he met City Councilman Chokwe Lumumba. Chokwe put him on his AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) basketball team and took him on the road. While traveling all over the world with the basketball team, he gained the focus to continue on the right path and prove to his parents that he could “be someone”. He later met actor/comedian Thomas Ford through Mr. Quincy Coleman, both of whom were a great inspiration to his life. Now Tommie is sharing his story with others. Not only is he a motivational speaker who travels near and far, he has written a book entitled: “A Dark Journey to a Light Future” which can be purchased at all of the major book sellers such as Amazon.com.

From The Streets To The Classroom Tommie attended Tougaloo College. He managed to maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Many of the underclassmen looked up to him in spite of the tattoos all over his body. Eventually Tommie ran for and won Mr. Tougaloo College in his senior year. Tommie says that when he first petitioned to run for Mr. Tougaloo, some of the students, staff, and administration did not take him seriously. “Even through the trials and tribulations, a large portion of the student body saw pass the outer appearance and saw something in me that I didn’t fully see in myself. Through the encouragement of my faithful supporters and friends, I was elected Mr. Tougaloo College. “ Now, Tommie is teaching at a middle school in Jackson, Mississippi. Tommie gives credit to God, saying: “I give credit to God, which none of this would have been possible without him.” (You can visit Tommie’s Facebook Page at: http://www.facebook.com/ tommie.mabry)

STYLE ICON First Lady Michelle Obama is making her mark as a Fashion Icon. Many are comparing her to the late First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

Mrs. Obama’s fashion choices are often referred to as the “Michelle Obama Effect” which is similar to the “Oprah Effect” when Oprah featured items on her “Favorite Things” episodes of the show.

Mrs. Obama is known for her sleeveless dresses that show off her toned arms. In fact, First Lady Obama is breaking all of the rules at times by showing a little skin.

Dozens of little known designers whose designs she has worn, have become stars in the industry within the three years she has been First Lady.

Color Blocking: Hot For This Summer

By Chef Lajuan McGill To a Southerner, eating grits is practically a religion, and breakfast without grits is unthinkable. In the lower parts of the United States, shrimp and grits has been considered a basic breakfast for coastal fishermen and families for decades during the shrimp season (May through December). Now, this dish has been dressed up and taken out on the town to the fanciest restaurants. Not just for breakfast anymore, it is also served for brunch, lunch, and dinner.

Advertising Tips One Shot Ads (Almost Never Work) One Shot Ads have to compete with thousands of other advertisements on radio, television and print. It is highly unlikely that the consumer will remember one particular advertisement that only ran one time. It will most likely be forgotten.

Long Term Advertising Research Shows that an advertisement needs to run at least 27 times in order to insure that it will be seen enough for it to stick in the minds of the consumers.
