South Beach Biloxi Hotel I recently had the pleasure of staying at South Beach Biloxi Hotel on the coast in Biloxi, Mississippi. I had seen this hotel on the internet, and quite frankly, I was sold even before getting there. I can honestly say that I enjoyed my experience during the entire time. Believe it or not, the hotel is so inclusive, we really didn’t have to leave unless we wanted to. You have the choice of getting a room with a beach view, city view or what I called the “best of both worlds” which gives a combination of the beach view by day and the view of the city lights by night.

We had the one bedroom suite. It has a beautiful corridor that leads into a gorgeous living room with floor to ceiling panoramic views. The bedroom was equally impressive. One of the main reasons why I chose this hotel is the direct access to the beach. I have stayed in Biloxi many times where we had to trek across four lanes of highway to get to the beach. This hotel has a convenient gateway from the hotel directly onto the beach sands. After relaxing at the beach you can have beverages or enjoy a delicious meal on their beautiful terrace that overlooks the beach. They also have an indoor dining room as well as other wonderful amenities.

Clyde Dinkins is a native Mississippian. He is a graduate of Utica Junior College as well as Tougaloo College. He was in the retail business for many years before he moved back to Mississippi to open Genesis Variety Store which is located on Meadowbrook Road. When you walk into Genesis you are in awe of the variety of unique decorative items, furniture, and wall decorations.

Recently I was speaking to a lady about Mr. Dinkins's store. I asked her if she had ever been there before. She told me that she had been there. According to this particular customer: “he is such a very nice person... I love the beautiful things he has in the store. The thing I like the most is that when you buy something from there, you know that no one else has it”.

Customers who come to Genesis can look forward to a warm smile and a friendly “Hello, how are you doing today?” Mr. Dinkins says that customer service is number one with him. You get that as soon as you walk into the door! Genesis is located at 339 Meadowbrook Rd next to CVS Pharmacy. There number is: 601-352-1133.

Fishing is an ancient practice that dates back to about 40,000 years ago. In medieval times, seafood was less prestigious than other animal meats, and often seen as merely an alternative to meat on fast days. Seafood is any form of marine life regarded as food by humans. Seafoods include fish, mollusks (shellfish), crustaceans (shrimp and lobster). In North America, although not generally in the United Kingdom, the term "seafood" is also applied to fresh water organisms eaten by humans, so all edible aquatic life may be referred to as seafood. The harvesting of wild seafood is known as fishing and the cultivation and farming of seafood is known as aquaculture, mariculture, or in the case of fish, fish farming. Seafood is often distinguished from meat, although it is still animal and is excluded in a strict vegetarian diet.

Seafood is an important source of protein in many diets around the world, especially in coastal areas .Still, seafood was the mainstay of many coastal populations. The benefits of seafood are unmatched by any protein based food on the planet. No other food source can boast of seafood’s low calorie, fat and cholesterol benefits while providing for most of the protein the body needs each day, in only one serving. The Produce Market I recently had the opportunity to speak with Tommy Smith, owner of The Produce Market located directly across from the Jackson Medical Mall on Bailey Ave.

Smith: All year long we sell the fresh frozen items such as whole okra, field peas, butter beans, purple hull peas, squash, cut beans, and diced peppers.

EMOJ: What motivated you to start a pro- We have frozen fruits that are quick froduce market? zen. Because of the quick frozen process, the chunks of fruit don’t stick together. Smith: The idea was brought to me by a business associate who introduced me to “When you thaw it out fresh frozen produce that allows consumit tastes fresh” ers to have fresh produce all year long due to the special freezing process. The same is true for the fresh frozen vegetables. None of the vegetable pieces stick The fact that I could sell fresh produce to together. EMOJ: How have people been receiving your produce market, what has been there “...local bee keepers who produce response? the honey and bring it directly…” Smith: When we opened in October of 2011, business started off slow. We really had to educate the customer that the produces was not frozen in the regular sense, but it was actually fresh produce. A lot of people in the community are glad they don’t have to drive far to get fresh produce. We also get a lot of comments about the cleanliness of the store and friendly customer service. EMOJ: What are the main fresh produce items that customers are buying?

EMOJ: Tell me about your honey. Smith: We have organic honey from local bee keepers who produce the honey and bring it directly to the market very fresh. Many people use it to clear up their allergies or in place of sugar. We sell a lot of seasoning blends. We also have a lot of specialty hot sauces and preserves. A Deli and BBQ is coming soon. We make local deliveries to the elderly to their homes or assistant living facilities who live near the market.

Smith: At this time of the year, peaches, plums, tomatoes, and watermelons.
