Destined 4 Change Mime Ministry Chelsea Callands

Information and photos by Alana Allen Chelsea Callands is the visionary and creator behind her brand, Destined 4 Change Mime Ministry. The ambitious 16-year-old is currently a junior at John Motley Morehead High School in Eden, N.C. Growing up in ministry, Callands started off as a praise dancer at the age of seven at her grandfather’s church, Dr. Kenneth Moore, senior pastor of Sharon Baptist Missionary Church, located in Stoneville, N.C. At the age of eight, she saw someone do mime ministry for the first time and fell in love with it. Her gift was activated at that moment, and she would go on to launch Destined 4 Change Mime Ministry in 2015, a ministry that allows her to use spiritual expression to exalt Jesus Christ. Callands has been blessed to share her ministry at various youth revivals and mime conferences across North Carolina and Virginia. She explains before she performs she is usually nervous but the moment the music starts, something “clicks” and she loses herself in the music. “The moment I start ministering, I go into the zone, I can’t see anyone; I just feel free,” says Chelsea.

The rock of Destined 4 Change Mime Ministry is Chelsea’s mother, Tiffany Callands, who encourages her and helps her with managing ministry opportunities. “As parents, her father and I have always encouraged Chelsea to seek out those things that she’s passionate about and to pursue them with the help and guidance of God. When she discovered her gift of mime, we were able to watch her touch the lives and hearts of people until tears were coming from their eyes. We knew then that this was a gift from God. She is very prayerful and she stands out amongst her peers as being different, not only in her appearance but in how she carries herself,” says Tiffany Callands. In the future, Chelsea plans to graduate high school and attend a four-year college to pursue a degree in psychology and minor in music. She hopes to obtain a career in music therapy and expand her mime ministry to different states. For anyone who would like to support Chelsea Callands and Destined 4 Change Mime Ministry, please visit her Facebook Page by sharing her posts, attending a youth revival or purchasing her products. h

Where God’s Love Is The Answer To Your Equation By Tonya Dixon Photos by Still Shots Photography

I

t’s certain that problems will always exist in life. Just as true, there will always be a solution. For Equation Church – Home of United True Holiness, that solution is God. In fact, the ministry adopted the premise as one of its core creeds – Equation Church, where God’s love is the answer to your equation. “The Vision of Equation Church is to introduce the problem solver as the answer to anyone’s equation,” said newly installed pastor Deon Clark. “At Equation Church we want to show people that God’s love is the answer to their equation. There’s no problem God won’t solve, no answer He will not meet.” Formerly known as United True Holiness, the ministry began a new chapter in its storied history, April 1, 2017, when it was reintroduced as Equation Church with Clark as its new senior pastor. The name, leadership and focus may have changed a bit to newcomers, but for Clark it’s a God-ordained return home. “The church has actually been in existence since the 1960s. It is my family’s church. I grew up here,” said Clark of the original church. “My aunt Eartha Baity was the founder, then my grandfather, William Scott, pastored for years. After he passed away, my grandmother, Willie M. Scott, took over. God has led me back home to lead.” Although Clark has only been senior pastor of the church since April, he’s well equipped to lead the ministry. After serving in the original church as a youth, Clark took an assignment as the youth pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc. He faithfully served there for over five years. He notes the leadership and developmental skills he learned under Bishop Emeritus George W. Brooks and Bishop Designate Bryan J. Pierce, Sr. as well as under the tutelage of Apostle Reginald White have been invaluable spiritual resources. Continued on page 10 Triad - May/June 2017

“I have been blessed to have great leaders that are still mentoring me and helping me during this process of becoming a senior pastor.” Some would say it’s Clark genuine heart that is such a blessing as well. And that’s exactly what he wants people to see. And what’s so wonderful is that Equation Church is taking on the identity of its new pastor; catching onto his desire to simply love on people no matter what. “Sometimes there’s too great of a focus on going through the motions of having church. So much so that we forget to build people,” said Clark. I believe [God] has called me and this ministry to build, encourage, lift and grow people. Particularly outside of the four walls of the church.” “We want to be a church that allows everyone to feel God’s love and understand His plan and will for their lives. We want to help people realize their full God-given potential in their personal life, finances and careers. We want to support the community and give back to the city and be diverse in all we do. Ultimately, we must be the church that truly makes a difference.” Equation Church is using every resource and opportunity possible to fulfill its mission to “revive believers, reach a generation and renew a culture.” Clark says there are already ministries in place to serve every need and demographic and plans for many more. Available or upcoming programs and ministries include a food pantry, tutoring program for elementary and middle school students, children and youth, marriage, young adult and college, men’s, women’s and an outreach ministry. “We are a church that has something for everybody. Whether you are a seasoned saint (senior citizen), college student, adult, or professional who would like to connect in a tangible way,” said Clark. “That’s why we have specific Kingdom groups that relate to each of those individual needs so that nobody will be left out. There are many ways for people to connect other than Tuesday or Sunday. We don’t want anyone to get lost in the smoke of having church.”

Pastor Clark and Lady Jen have devoted their lives to spreading the love of God. Equation Church is a place where this love will reign. Continued on page 13

In the midst of establishing and expanding various ministries and programs, Equation Church remains true to its roots. Methods may have changed, but foundational messages are consistent and true. Case in point, Sunday worship service will soon change from 11 a.m. to 10 a.m. (in the summer), but the Gospel message will continue to be delivered through the power of the Holy Spirit. Expanding and growing outreach programs is essential for Clark. The EQ Love 316 Outreach Movement was established as an opportunity for the ministry to simply serve its community and city and make a difference in the lives of people. “Bishop Designate Bryan J. Pierce, Sr. coined the phrase, ‘he who serves the city, wins the city,’” said Clark of what he believes to be an incredible movement. “The EQ Love 316 movement will do just that. We are trying to build people outside of the four walls, that’s what Kingdom is. That’s what we are doing.”

“Sometimes there’s too great of a focus on going through the motions of having church. So much so that we forget to build people. I believe [God] has called me and this ministry to build, encourage, lift and grow people. Particularly outside of the four walls of the church”. Pastor Clark

The outreach program will give the church opportunity to meet spiritual as well as physical needs of the community. The food pantry will be expanded into a fully-stocked free food market for those in need; care packages with daily needs will be distributed and during the cold months the church has plans to open its doors as a warming shelter.

Service Times Sunday Morning 11:00 am

But Clark is quick to note that the vision is much bigger than himself or even the ministry. “We have a desire to build facilities for the mentally challenged, tackle mental health in the African American community and educate beyond our local community.”

Tuesday T.N.T. 7:00 pm www.eqchurch.org 901 Broad Ave, Greensboro, NC 27406

“Whenever God gives someone a vision for something great He will position them to achieve that vision. I’m believing God’s will for this ministry will be manifested so we can help this entire community and then move on to a national level. I’m just excited about what God is doing and seeing his plan unfold in the life of Equation Church.” h Triad - May/June 2017

rystal Simpson Williams wears many hats. She is the last of five siblings and proud mother of one daughter (Meikayla) who attends Winston Salem State University. She is also an ambitious entrepreneur with a purpose to emulate the goodness and greatness of God. As a young child, she was no stranger to hard work. She also learned that if she wanted to accomplish anything in life, she would have to work hard for it. Even today she incorporates these same values into her career as a professional hairstylist and nutritional fit coach. However, she strives each day to leave a loving and lasting impression on everyone that she encounters. Williams is a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, Inc. She is a devout woman of faith and believes that she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her. “Truly his grace and mercy has kept me through many trials and I’m a firm believer that through it all I can’t lose with Him,” she says. As a child she wanted to be a hair stylist or a teacher. Family and friends were her first clients. She later started her career as a stylist in 1997. With more than 20 years under her belt as a hair stylist, she experienced both sides of the business at its best. Though she never had a desire to own a salon, the opportunity presented itself when the salon she worked in for 10 years closed. Along with her God Sister, Katresha, they opened DreamGirls Salon. “It was a great experience. We grew, we achieved and we succeeded well as business partners. However God had a different plan,” she says. She is now owner of Crystyles House of Hair & Nutrition. Continued on the next page Triad - May/June 2017

As a stylist Williams takes pride in healthy hair. She also creates custom made wigs to accommodate many individuals who may be suffering from alopecia, cancer, or anyone who doesn’t want to have a bad hair day. Williams never imagined she would have two businesses under one roof that go hand in hand with one purpose. She is blessed to have an awesome team to help them run smoothly. This includes Lita White, Brittani White, Marlene Hairston and many more. In the salon, Thattiana Price shares a lot of the same goals. Williams says she is an awesome stylist who is goal oriented, career minded and destined to be great.

“In my vision to combine the Nutrition club and salon I wanted to promote an atmosphere that is clean, warm, cozy, and inviting. It had to be complete with free Wi-Fi, great service and a welcome environment,” she says. The Nutrition club offers many great flavors of shakes including snickers, butterfinger, strawberry cheesecake, Butter pecan and more all for under 300 calories with 24 grams of protein. They also provide a healthy meal replacement and conduct weight loss challenges to keep their clients motivated. There are also fit camps, Dancefit , Zumba, Tire Boot Camps and Cardio classes available. “Our goal is to empower everyone we come in contact with and make them look good and feel good. We do it all. Color, cuts, styles, weaves, custom wigs, braids, croches, and more,” she says. Being a hair stylist has been a fulfilling experience but Williams knew she couldn’t do it forever. So she devised a (plan B), a way to keep the same lifestyle but yet still enjoy what she does most and that is to help people to look and feel good. Williams vision of having a (plan B) came really easy for someone that had struggled with weight loss over the years. After achieving a 38 pound weight loss in just four months using Herbalife products, she felt amazing. She was introduced to the business side of Herbalife in August 2015 and was immediately given a vision to open her own Nutrition club and help others accomplish what she did. In her role she is able to help many others who are struggling with the very thing that she struggled with all of her life. After 20 plus years of ‘yo-yo’ dieting, she is finally under 200 pounds and feels better than ever. “I will l forever be grateful for God giving me the vision to step out on faith and trust Him in this process,” she says Moving forward, Williams hopes to duplicate what she is doing and help other stylist prepare for retirement by creating a (plan B). With dreams as big as hers, the sky is the limit and is within her reach. h

Information & Photos provided by Curtis Rice urtis Rice was born in Shelby, NC. He was raised in Mooresboro, NC. After the death of his mother, at the age of 10, Curtis felt as if there was no hope left for him. Shortly after that, he moved in with his grandparents, but the feelings of hopelessness and bitterness towards the Lord were still heavy on his heart.

Curtis was looking for something to fill the void in his life, so he turned to the streets looking for love and anything else, he thought would and could fill that void. And if life had not already been hard enough for this young man, his father was murdered when he was seventeen; his grandmother passed away the same year, and his house burned down in flames the same year. Yet another hit, another event in his life that only added to the feelings of hopelessness. Finally, when Curtis was in the 12th grade, he dropped out of high school and pretty much gave up on life. Through the love of God and his church family, things started falling into place for this young man. He found hope, unconditional love and the support he desperately needed to make the necessary changes in his life. He went to Isothermal Community College and received his High School diploma. Then he attended Oral Roberts University and received his BA in Church Ministries and a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling with a Cognate in Executive Leadership from Liberty University. He is now pursuing a Doctoral Degree from Grand Canyon University. Curtis is now married to a wonderful woman, and has three beautiful children. He is the author of two books: Into the Darkness You Shine and Rebuild. He is becoming one of the most sought out motivational speakers and the Lead Pastor of Capstone Church in Greensboro, NC. He has shared his story on several national television stations. Today, Curtis wants to let the world know that you can overcome your past. There is hope of a future. He wants people to realize that it doesn’t matter where you come from or what you have been through in your life, you have the power to succeed in life. h

No matter how far you have fallen, you can rebuild, and you will rebuild—starting today! Want to rebuild your life? A life that you have been dreaming about? The Lael Agency

By Tonya Dixon Photos by Still Shots Photography ngela Huntley has been working in the world of media for nearly 25 years. Her extensive resume includes script writing, directing, sales, production and significantly more. From radio to television to digital media, she has experience in it all.

“I have been in media of some sort since 1991,” said Huntley of her career. “I started in sales and marketing; spent years selling radio, television, newspaper, advertising – you name it. I’ve sold pretty much any type of media you can imagine.” With all of her experience, it was a no brainer when she established The Lael Agency and subsidiary, Lael Publishing. The “creative” agency, a term she prefers to “marketing,” is proficient in helping ministries, nonprofits, authors and businesses with websites, books and strategic planning. “I like to categorize us as a “creative” agency because we do much more than marketing. We do graphic design, publish books and websites, and offer strategic planning. In my experience that’s more than just marketing,” said Huntley. Initially, Huntley’s vision was to focus solely on developing websites and offering graphic design services, but she noticed an increasing number of her clients were more interested in book publishing services. The need was something she could personally relate to. Despite the varied media experience she has, writing has always been and continues to be her greatest passion. Following her hearts desire, years ago Huntley set her sights on writing a children’s book. Her two sons were the inspiration. “I began writing the book in 2012. It was somewhat of a special project to me. I raised two sons and when they were little we had trouble finding books with African-American boys or boy characters in them. If I did find books, the themes always seemed to be extremely heavy. I couldn’t find anything light, funny and carefree.”

“I like to categorize us as a “creative” agency because we do much more than marketing. We do graphic design, publish books and websites, and offer strategic planning. In my experience that’s more than just marketing”.

“One day I decided I simply had to publish my own books,” said Huntley. However, it wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be. And after volleying with traditional publishing companies over her manuscript, she realized she wasn’t content placing the fate of her “baby” in the hands of someone who, more often than not, disregarded her intentions for the book for what would please the masses. “Originally, I tried the traditional method of publishing, but I didn’t know I wouldn’t have complete control. I didn’t like the process of having to be ‘accepted’ by mainstream publishers. I had to do it on my own. I did the research, made connections and started publishing my own books.” Having first-hand experience with the difficulties of selfpublishing, the uptick in requests for book publishing assistance made complete sense. In fact, her clientele increased to the point that she made the difficult, but fulfilling decision, to leave her fulltime job and focus all of her energy on The Lael Agency and Lael Publishing.

“I got tired of turning down projects because of my full time [job],” said Huntley. “I really wanted to focus on what I was passionate about.” There aren’t many companies that offer the abundance of services as The Lael Agency, particularly for first-time authors or low or nobudget organizations. Huntley proudly notes that once the book is written, the agency takes the author to the next step and level.

Pictured with Angela Huntley is Jackie Smith, Senior Marketing Consultant for The Lael Agency.

“From edits to design to publishing to marketing, we help get the product to the consumer,” said Huntley. She says the agency has a streamlined process that works great for the person or company that is unfamiliar with what it requires to take a creative project from conception to completion. The Lael Agency is proficient in print as well as digital creation. And while many creative agencies have strayed away from hardcover printing, Huntley says it will remain a component of what her business offers. In addition, soft cover, eBook, online and brick and mortar distribution is available in 39,000 outlets throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Lael Agency has been fortunate to experience a positive client-response from its infancy. According to Huntley, it’s due to nothing short of God’s grace, hard-learned lessons, wisdom and plain old hard work. “Entrepreneurs are a different breed. We often try different businesses before we find our niche; and that has been my story,” said Huntley. “From a coffee shop and dessertery to magazine publishing to grant writing, I tried a lot. I’m older and wiser now. There are some hurdles and obstacles you just have to overcome. I’m used to hard work, but I just feel like if I’m going to hustle and do hard work for someone else why not turn it and hustle and do hard work for myself? To me there is no difference. If I can sell you, I know I can sell me.” Hearing and telling other people’s “stories” is thrilling for Huntley. It’s one of her motivating factors and innate to her outgoing personality. “I’m the girl at the basketball game that, instead of watching the game, I’m on my phone Googling the players and reading their biographies,” admits Huntley. “This is a true story. I left a Hornets game once and was asked who they played. I couldn’t remember, but I knew where the players were from. I’m really the backstory type of girl. I really don’t meet a stranger and I enjoy what others have to say about themselves.” For the sake of growing The Lael Agency, as well as for selfimprovement, Huntley is constantly reading industry news and attending showcases to make sure the company stays abreast of the latest topics, tools, techniques and business practices. Expansion is definitely an aspect of the growth plan Huntley has for her company. Every new book she helps publish, every website she builds and every brochure she creates spells success for The Lael Agency, but more importantly it spells success for her clients, and for Huntley, that’s what matters most. h

He also offers made to measure apparel, suits, blazers, trousers, sport coats, dress shirts, sport shirts, neckties, bow ties, pocket squares and hosiery for men. Dwayne Collins is a native of Fayetteville, N.C., but moved to Charlotte in 1976. He attended public schools in the Queen City and after graduating from Garinger High School, he later attended Johnson C. Smith University and obtained a bachelor of arts degree in English. After college, he worked for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system and dabbled a little in the banking industry. Additionally, he was able to find time to work in retail at Brooks Brothers, Dillard’s, and Ralph Lauren. It was during these experiences when he noticed a void in how most men had not been properly educated on the difference of dressing fashionably, and dressing well. “Dressing fashionably changes from season to season, dressing well is timeless,” Collins says. Soon after his experiences in retail, Collins decided to make a career change and, Sartorial Servant Wardrobe Consulting Firm was born. “We educate men on dressing well. When a man dresses well, it builds his confidence,” he says. Collins also possesses over twenty years of expertise in the area and is held in high regard amongst many in the respective field. He has been featured in The Charlotte Observer Style File, which highlights the most stylish men and women in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a former men’s style columnist for Pride Magazine online, The County News Newspaper, and Q City Metro’s online magazine.

Collins has served as Chairperson of The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte Mecklenburg, and President of The Charlotte - Mecklenburg N.A.A.C.P. In 2000, Collins was recognized as one of Charlotte, North Carolina’s most influential black men by Community Pride Magazine. The typical client for Collins is a man who has a sincere desire to dress well, and is willing to be educated on the principles of dressing well. “I choose wardrobe consulting as a career to be of service to men. I don’t feel that my job is complete until each client feels as good as they look, and have an understanding on what happened to get them to this point,” he says. “I have failed if I only dress someone and they are unable to repeat the process after leaving my firm”. While assisting in the transformation of men from fashion delinquents, into arbiters of men’s style, Collins is also paying homage to those who helped and inspired him. “My great uncle, Charles Williams was the first man I saw that dressed elegantly. I wanted to dress just like him. My good friend, Leonard Gresham, Jr. is an elegant dresser and style mentor to me,” he says. He also considers musician, Louis Armstrong to be one of the best dressed men in the history of the world. Photos provided by O.G. Collins Media

“Clothing is one of the most universal yet overlooked forms of communication. One’s attire projects a sense of one’s self esteem, savvy, priorities, and state of mind.” Alan Flusser

Men’s Style Guru Moving forward, Collins plans to continue to spread the ‘Sartorial Gospel’ to the ends of the earth. This also means creating clothing and ensembles that will move men forward in their goals, aspirations, and dreams. h

rowing up as a child I often heard my grandparents talk about God as a healer. On March 28th 2012 my life forever changed. I experienced an unusual headache a burning sensation on the top of my head that was followed by a culmination of extreme pressure. The best way to describe what I was feeling is my head felt like it was in a pressure cooker except there was no way for the steam to escape. I got up and took some medicine in hopes that my headache would go away. It never went away, but the pressure did subside. I proceeded with my day as usual except my vision was blurry and by the end of the week I had lost over eighty percent of my vision. It was at the point that I went to Urgent Care under the premise that my allergies were out of control only to find out while in the waiting room that I needed to go to the emergency room immediately, because I had unusual symptoms over a period of

three days. I know for those of you who are reading this you probably would have sought out medical services before the third day. Well I am hard headed in some areas and I know that I am not the only one. But never the less I left urgent care and went to the emergency room to be meet with a team already waiting on me, because the urgent care on-call doctor called before I arrived. I later found out that I had a series of mini strokes over three days and was diagnosed later with Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA-Mini Stroke). For the next 9 months, thereafter I went through a series of test to determine the cause. But doing this time I still had limited vision. I was unable to drive, I had difficulty with bright lights I needed minimum assistance with walking because I perceived that I was walking straight, but really, I was walking zig zag. Because of the TIA I was left with a permanent peripheral loss in my left eye and at times my eye drupes. After the first year, I experienced so much in my body that it was life altering for me. I learned that it takes time to recover once your body has experienced trauma. The one thing that I never faced was fear, I believe that things happened so fast that I did not have time to process it. I was so busying going to appointment after appointment that all I wanted was to know how to prevent what happened. I know that I am not the only one to experience having mini strokes at 38 years of age, but when you are in your 30’s you don’t think that you are old enough to have a stroke. But what I learned is a stroke does not have a name, address or an age; it can happen to anyone. Over the last six years I have had highs and lows and experienced another (TIA) in October 2016. I truly now know the Lord as Jehovah RaphaThe Lord My Healer. It was doing the last few years that I came to know Gods word through its healing power. Healing is a gift that all can experience. Psalm 107:20 tells us that God sent His Word and healed them. I have learned that we must speak God’s word to our individual situations. James 1:21 reveals to us to, “receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” Once we realize that God’s word is engrafted which means, “to make it a living extension of your life so that it can produce spiritual fruit in you.” (www.iblp.org) change is inevitable. It is through the engrafting of God’s word that healing is produced in our bodies. I believe the imagery that we create through God’s word becomes a reality in our spiritual being. The woman with the issue of blood carried this in her body for twelve long years. Her hope was to be healed as she pressed through the crowd to touch the hem of His garment. I believe that she was at the end of her rope, she was broke and she felt that Jesus was her only hope to be healed. Like many of us she created an image that she shall be healed, and I believe she spoke it all the way through the crowd and activated her faith and she put a demand on of God’s word that she SHALL BE HEALED. In other words she gave voice to her faith.

There are times in our life when we must put a demand on God’s word and activate our faith that will produce the, “God kind of healing” that only God can perform. God’s word is the most powerful medicine we will ever have. Proverbs 4:22-“For they are life to those who find them, and health to all flesh.” Our greatest gift is to give voice to his word and let it do what it was created for; it cannot return unto Him void, but it shall accomplish what it was created to do. One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is self-care. Self-care is to find a healthy balance between who and what we give out and receive, therefore we must focus on our mental, physical, spiritual and emotional care. We are our best encouragers to ourselves. So how do ensure that self-care is a part of our lifestyle:

1. Self-care is wholeness (Luke 10:27) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor in the same way you love yourself. 2. Self-care is reducing the stress that life brings with it (1 Peter 5:7) Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Notice that He said care and not cares. Care refers to submitting our total being to Him. 3. Self-care is eating properly and exercising on a regular. 4. Self-care is getting an annual physical and preventive care. 5. Self-care is taking a vacation to free your mind of the cares of this life. In conclusion, we must be accountable to ourselves and we have a responsibility to care for this body that God has loaned to us. I like what Miles Monroe refers to our outer layer as, “our earth suits.” Therefore, as a body of believer we must know who we are. I Corinthians 6:19-20, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; v20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” As a collective body, it takes all of us to be the body of Christ and it takes all us to be the temple. We are our brother and sister’s keeper. h

Curtis Lyons A Keeper of Time

A

s hectic as life can be for some to get as much accomplished in a 24 hour day, the constant traverse is time and learning how to get the most out of it. Curtis Lyons, a Durham resident and Horologists adopted a craft for timekeeping and spends many days building, repairing and restoring timepieces. He was brought up in the country and was always interested in wheels, gears and anything that stored power. The 7th child of 11, of which also had two other adopted boys, Lyons says he knew he was different from all the rest of his siblings. “I wanted change,” he says. He attended Roxboro High School before it was integrated. After high school he attended college. The name of North Carolina Central University had just been change from North Carolina College, and in the fall semester of 1969-1970, he enrolled. “I probably would not have gone to college had it not been for the counselors who pushed me to do so. I had a busy working career, yet all of the time, my interest in clocks grew,” says Lyons. Lyons says he was introduced to the craft of Horology by a representative for Ridgeway Clock Company. He would go all around North Carolina, fixing Ridgeway Grandfather Clocks. As he was amazed from these encounters, Lyons says his interest grew as well. “I enjoyed breathing life into something mechanical and making things tick and finding reasons why a clock stops. I was also intrigued at how a gear meshing with another gear can control power,” he says.

“I probably would not have gone to college had it not been for the counselors who pushed me to do so. I had a busy working career and all the time, my intrest in clocks grew”.

He learned about The National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors, a school that teaches others how to fix clocks. He inquired and was invited to visit the school in Columbia, Pennsylvania. “I liked what they were doing and went downstairs and signed up 1999,” he says. He is inspired by Arthur Finn (Dr. Clock), an instructor from clock school. He would bring Lyon into his clock shop and go over everything before each class. He always made sure he noticed and understood any problem with a clock. Lyons says he valued Finn’s insight and the relationship that lasted for 10 years, even after school was over. When Lyons isn’t working his craft, he attends Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church and studies under Pastor Clyde Glass. He also sings with the Male Chorus and serves as an assistant treasure for the Usher Board. If you are in need of his services please call him and learn more about his services. h

A and selling process.

sa Fleming is a REALTOR® and proud member of Allen Tate Realtors® RaleighGlenwood. Described as the ultimate professional in regards to real estate transactions, Fleming’s negotiating style, knowledge, and experience is utilized to the fullest extent while he educates and guides others through the home buying

He is an active member of the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® (RRAR) and the North Carolina REALTORS®, where he has served on multiple committees. He served as the President of RRAR in 2013 and was a member of the 2014 National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Leadership Academy class. Fleming is currently serving as the 2017 Chair of the NAR Leadership Academy Advisory Group. A graduate of NC State University, Fleming worked at New York Hospital after college. When New York Hospital merged with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital to become New York Presbyterian Hospital, Fleming realized that he did not want to be part of another merger and began to explore other career options. He was fortunate to get a limousine ride with the hospital’s Chief Financial Officer who mentioned three places where Fleming should move if he wanted to get into real estate: Phoenix, Arizona, Washington D.C., and the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. That was in 1999, and he moved back to North Carolina in 2001. “I started my real estate career in Queens, New York by selling property in Ocala, Florida. It was the best job ever, and I loved being there. It is the reason why I am in real estate today,” Fleming states. He began working in real estate on a part-time basis and would work nights and weekends. “Every weekend we would fly down to Ocala and show the properties on Saturday, write up the contracts on Sunday, and then fly back Sunday night to New York.” “I chose this business because I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny. I love the schedule flexibility as well as being able to meet and help people from all walks of life. It has been a blessing to be there for my parents, children, and my wife when they needed me the most,” he says. Being that he was home-schooled by his mother until he was 14 years old, outside of God, Fleming says his parents have impacted his life the most. They instilled a belief and faith in God that has enabled him to make it thus far. He is also inspired by the leaders he has worked with in the real estate industry. “By engaging with and being involved in the associations, I have been able to learn from some of the leaders in my industry that are in the trenches doing this business, fighting for private property rights, home ownership, and our industry as a whole.” Fleming believes that the decision to get involved and engage with his peers and the leaders of his industry at the local, state, and national associations, had the greatest impact on his career.

“I chose this business because I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny. I love the schedule flexibility as well as being able to meet and help people from all walks of life.” The flexibility of his schedule also gives Fleming the opportunity to be involved and engaged with his community. In his spare time he is active in a variety of organizations, serving on the Boards of Directors for Marbles Kids Museum, The Carying Place, Southeast Raleigh Promise, and Rebuilding Together® of the Triangle, where he is currently serving as the Chair. Additionally, Fleming is a founding board member of Central Wake High School. In the future, he plans to continue staying involved and engaged with the community and his industry. “I am honored to be currently running to serve as the 2018 President-Elect of the North Carolina Realtors®. I plan to mentor as many people that I can in this industry, and show them that you don’t necessarily have to be a mega producer or high profile agent to make it in this industry. You have to get involved as you only can keep what you give away, and you have to breathe out in order to breathe in to stay alive”. h

Eric Lee Ministries

Minister Eric Kinley Lee, Jr. is a native of Clinton, N.C., and the son of Reverend Eric K. Lee, Sr. and Wanda Lee. He became the happiest man in the world when he married Susan L. Lee. He was saved at the tender age of fourteen and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at the age of sixteen. Eric has ministered in song since the age of six. His walk of life hasn’t been easy, as he has had several struggles including rejection, self-esteem and acceptance. He has devoted his life to serving and mentoring others that have had the same struggles as he did. He currently serves as the Praise and Worship Leader and Minister at Abundant Life Christian Center COGIC under the auspices of Bishop Stenneth E. Powell, Sr. and First Lady Beverly A. Powell. While serving he has learned the value and importance of worship as a lifestyle. He has been favored to the share the stage with such gospel greats as Ivan Powell, Sr., Earnest Pugh, James Fortune, Crystal Aikin, Phillip Bryant, Fred Hammond, Byron Cage, Marcus Cole, Shirley Caesar, Ricky Dillard, Pastor Charles Jenkins and Kurt Carr.

What is your testimony? It is one of redemption, freedom and deliverance. Growing up in a Christian home, where your father is a minister and your mother, it was firmly understood that I had to represent my family in a positive light. While I was in my hometown, I did so well, which means that my mother and father had a pretty tight grip on me. However when I went away to college in 2003, I realized that the grip was finally loosened. I began to involve myself in a lifestyle that would defame my family and tarnish my reputation. On top of that, there were some issues of my past that contributed to this lifestyle that I had chosen. To make a long story short, I saw God’s hand one night when I was held at gun point. I saw the bullets in the gun and every attempt to kill me had failed. From then I made a vow to God that I would help others that struggled with what I had experienced.

What’s the vision for your ministry To reach the lost through the compassion that Jesus showed in the Word of God. To compel men, women, boys and girls, people of every race and creed to worship God unpretentiously. To draw a nation back to the face and the heart of God. To also bridge the gap between the church and the world, witnessing that as Christians we can bring Jesus to the world and change the world through our music, our words, our deeds and our goals. h

Mary Ann Adams IRS Enrolled Agent

PASSPORT DENIED OR CANCELLED

Summer is vacation time! Do you love to travel? Will did you know that if you owe the IRS more than $50,000 dollars including interest and penalties your passport can possibly be denied or cancelled. The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act of 2015 (FAST Act) added IRC section 7345 which requires the State Department to deny or cancel a passport for an individual upon receiving certification from the IRS that the individual has seriously delinquent unpaid tax debt. The IRS considers delinquent unpaid tax by individuals as legally enforceable federal tax debt, for which: • A notice of federal tax lien has been filed and all administrative remedies have lapsed or been exhausted, or when a levy has been issued.

Tax debt that is not considered seriously delinquent includes: • Tax debt that is being paid in a timely manner under an installment agreement, • Tax debt being paid in a timely manner under an offer in compromise accepted by the IRS or a settlement agreement entered into with the Justice Department, • Tax debt for which a collection due process hearing is timely requested in connection with a levy to collect the debt, or • Tax debt for which collection has been suspended because a request for innocent spouse relief has been made.

IS THE IRS REALLY KNOCKING?

How do you know if the IRS is really knocking at your door? Because of all the scams surrounding the IRS that take place across the county, the IRS has posted some answers on their website at “How to know if it’s really the IRS calling or knocking on your door.” The website point out that visits typically fall into three categories: • IRS revenue officers will sometimes make unannounced visits to a taxpayer’s home or place of business to discuss taxes owed or tax returns due. Revenue officers are IRS civil enforcement employees whose role involves education, investigation, and when necessary, appropriate enforcement. • IRS revenue agents will sometimes visit a taxpayer who is being audited. That taxpayer would have first been notified by mail about the audit and set an agreed-upon appointment time with the revenue agent. Also, after mailing an initial appointment letter to a taxpayer, an auditor may call to confirm and discuss items pertaining to the scheduled audit appointment. • IRS criminal investigators may visit a taxpayer’s home or place of business unannounced while conducting an investigation. However, these are federal law enforcement agents, and they will not demand any sort of payment. Criminal investigators also carry law enforcement credentials, including a badge. h Triad - May/June 2017
