STONELEIGH OF MARLBOROUGH
Located in the heart of the Rapaura area and the locally known 'Golden Mile' of vineyards, the 178ha Stoneleigh vineyard is on the northern side of the Wairau Valley, within 2km of the Wairau River and the Richmond Ranges. Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vines can all be found on the Stoneleigh vineyard and the site is home to some of the oldest grafted Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc blocks in Marlborough. Some blocks of these varieties

are now over 20 years old.
Marlborough's Wairau Valley in New Zealand, the Stoneleigh range takes it name from the abundance of stones that cover the area. The exceptional quality of the wines owes much to these stones. These stones reflect heat up onto the vines enhancing the ripening process and within the soil create the ideal growing environment. The Stoneleigh vineyards support environmentally sustainable practices and are part of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.

NEW WORLD ROSE
3
In South America, rosÊ tends to sit in two stylistic camps: Provençal or Italian rosato. The two below demonstrate this well, their respective ownerships influencing their approach. The difference from the original being, of course, that these are made with varieties that suit the warmth in South America and come with that distinctive, full-throttle fruity style. Well worth checking out. Read More..
ROSE CHAMPAGNE
4
Tends to be more expensive than the standard cuvee, but there’s a good reason: so many extra steps. Champagne is an exception to the rule for the rest of France, where you can only make rose by contact with the skins. In Champagne, you can add red wine to white; in fact, you can also make it by contact with skins to achieve sufficient colour, and add white wine to freshen it up. The method of production is merely one of the factors influencing the style of a rose champagne. The varieties used, the sweetness, the dosage, the use of reserve wines or not, vintage or not, oak or not, mlf or not; the list goes on. A fascinating category that probably requires its own wineletter. Read More..

A TASTE OF FRANCE
7
Established in 1344, Mont-Redon is one of the oldest wine estates in France. The largest single property in Chateauneufdu- Pape, the estate includes 100 hectares of the most perfectly sited vineyards in the appellation. They operate from a manual they themselves call (with some justification) ‘ancient knowhow.’ This involves hand selection of the fruit, a balanced blend of numerous varieties to highlight the aromatic qualities of the wines, sustained maceration to obtain the required depth and structure, and a refined barrel aging programme.
