SOUTH AMERICA | MALBEC
Malbec has emerged as a uniquely different South American wine style. It is grown both in Chile and Argentina but it is the latter that has given the variety world-wide prominence. Malbec is Argentina’s most famous varietal wine, and there you’ll find what are arguably the world’s finest expressions. It is made in a number of distinct styles, from appealing young fruity and aromatic early-drinking styles to complex, longerlived wines produced from old vines. Read More..
CHAKANA Chakana is a modern enterprise that takes up an old family legacy. At the turn of the 19th century, Giovanni Pelizzatti started producing high quality wines in Northern Italy. At present, the descendants of this pioneer have revived this passion. Chakana develops the concept of estate wines, making them in the same place where the grapes are grown. This complete integration between agricultural and enological practices result in wines of superior

constellation. It was represented by a sacred icon that was revered for the protection of crops. This square cross was at the foundation of the spiritual and agricultural life of the ethnic groups living in the highlands of the Andes, the 'Aymaras'. It integrated 3 levels of existence which correspond to water, earth and air. Chakana literally means 'bridge'. It is described as a symbolic power 'to bridge' heaven with earth. Nowadays, Chakana is a bridge between cultures. Read More..
HUARPE The name Huarpe comes from the preColumbian people who inhabited Mendoza. It was the Huarpe people that established how to get water to the arid desert by building channels to bring the water down from the Andes and into the soil. The Taymente range from Huarpe, means roots in Huarpe culture, the starting point for the wines, tied into the ground here. Winemaker Jose Hernandez Toso is German trained with extensive winemaking experience in Europe, Max was a consultant who now brings the business acumen to the partnership. They joined together to establish Huarpe. Jose was working for one of the big wineries in Argentina prior. Read More..

SOUTH AMERICA | CARMENERE
Originally from Bordeaux, Chilean Carmenère was once thought to be Merlot, but a 1994 DNA analysis fortuitously identified it as the long lost Carmenère and saved the grape from extinction. Today, 98% of the world’s Carmenère is produced in Chile. The wines from this rare variety typically display fleshy, fruity cherry, raspberry, green pepper and herbal-spicy notes wrapped in a refined coat of mellow tannins. Carmenère’s subtle tannin structure and low acidity make it a great accompaniment to lighter dishes. Read More..
VINA AQUITANIA Aquitania (pronounced Ak-A-tania) is a joint venture which brings France and Chile together. The story starts in 1984 when Bruno Prats (of Chateau Cos d’Estournel fame) and the late Paul Pontaillier (Chateau Margaux) started looking for top terroir in the historic centre of Chile. They had a mutual friend, Felipe de Solminihac, a Chilean winemaker of French origin, who lead them to the site they own today. The vineyard Quebrada de Macul,

Exceptional wines, much more restrained that the stereo type style from the region suggests. GRAHAM NORTON FOR SAINT PATRICK'S DAY
5
Ah yes, Graham Norton the winemaker. Under the trusty tutelage of the clever gents from Invivo of course. We have to admit, these wines are pretty good drinking for the minimal outlay involved. That Graham knows what he’s doing. As far as the provenance of these vinos goes, are they Irish, like the inimitable Mr Norton? Or are they Kiwi, courtesy of Invivo? Hey, who cares? They’re good, and Saint Patrick’s Day is nigh upon us (Sunday March 17), so at least for this month, they’re Celtic to the core. Read More..
