PYRAMID VALLEY A PREMIUM PRODUCER GETS A NEW LEASE OF LIFE

There have been considerable changes at the globally-lauded and uncompromising Pyramid Valley biodynamic vineyard of late, leaving aficionados wondering if their beloved winery would still be the same. With its founders moving on, Pyramid Valley has been purchased by Steve Smith MW and Brian Sheth. The new team also includes exEscarpment winemaker Hugh Kinch. Those troubled fans can breathe easy: Pyramid Valley is as good as it ever was, and in some instances, possibly better. There are two distinct ranges: The Appellation Series is a set of wines where the fruit is sourced from various parts of New Zealand and the wine made at Pyramid Valley using its key practices, while the Botanical Series consists of four wines from the four very distinct aspects of Pyramid Valley’s own terroir. PINOT NOIR | CALIFORNIA

PINOT NOIR | GERMANY

It leans more towards the fruiter styles of its New World counterparts than the ethereal Burgundian expressions, with the wines somewhat difficult to find here. In Germany, Pinot Noir is known as Spstburgunder. Read More..

PINOT NOIR | CHILE

Chile’s winemaking focus was for many years centred around Santiago and the Central Valley, where the level of heat was no friend to Pinot Noir. With viticulture now flourishing from the tip to the toe of this long and narrow land, the climatic diversity provides patches where more moderate temperatures ensure slow, even ripening and Pinot Noir has found its Chilean home. VEGA SICILIA MASTERCLASS | VICTORIA PARK Do not miss this very special tasting. Few wineries have a history as distinguished as that of Vega Sicilia. Founded in the 1860’s in Ribera del Duero, its top cuvée ÚNICO was the first great wine of Spain, with an almost unlimited cellaring potential. Until recent decades it was the only Spanish wine collected and coveted throughout the world.
