LEFT FIELD
Left Field is part of the Te Awa Collection, a trio of entities fashioned by the able and experienced winemaking team of Richard Painter and Ant Mackenzie, its pulse emanating from the heart of Hawkes Bay's globally regarded Gimblett Gravels. While stablemates Te Awa and Kidnapper Cliffs are single estate varietals and blends made exclusively from Gimblett Gravels and Kidnapper vineyards respectively, the distinctively rebranded Left Field wines explore the possibilities beyond those boundaries, accessing fruit from a variety of locations.
The winemakers literally went to the left side of the vineyard in their search for inspiration, and while these are not edgy explorations of obscure varietals, they are nonetheless finely executed expressions made by expert winemakers, approachable, consumer-oriented and much more than a mere branding exercise. Painter and Mackenzie source their fruit from selected premium regional vineyards to craft wines that are sophisticated without being stand-offish. Read More..
TUATARA
Tuatara Brewery is one of the originals and the leading lights of New Zealand's craft beer revolution. In 2000, Carl Vasta, engineer by profession and home brewer by compulsion, established Tuatara in the hills above Waikanae, building it by hand from modified you-name-it. It didn't take long before his superb range of ales, porters and pilsners, with their unique Kiwiesque twists, became a big hit.
More recently, Tuatara has launched five new beers and new-look packaging that brings tuatara eye design to life, the same tuatara eye that has long been an icon for the Kapiti based craft brewery, most recognisably on its bottle cap. Read More..
Since those early days, Tuatara has established an impressive reputation and are looking much flasher in the stainless steel department. Needless to say, there have been awards. In addition to their core range of classic styles, Tuatara also produce a brilliant selection of New
World styles, Belgium classics and a series of nifty seasonals and one-offs. Thinking outside the box? That's what they do.
A MANO
Mark Shannon is a Californian who went to Apulia for a short holiday with Fruili native Elvezia Sbalchiero, nursing an affec-tion for the Primitivo grape that rapidly turned into an obsession. Entranced by the region with its fresh, uncomplicated cuisine and timeless approach to living, the pair made it their home and established A-Mano to craft their handmade, affordable wines. ‘To make expensive wines is contrary to our way of thinking,’ says Elvezia. Theirs are superb value, fruit forward wines made with much passion and flair. Within one year of its conception, A Mano had been named Red Wine of the Year at London’s International Wine Challenge.

home because something is still possible here that is fast disappearing in the rest of the wine world – hand made (A•Mano) great wines that are affordable. We work with the best vineyards and do everything possible to maintain the purity of their flavors. Tradition is vital in Puglia, and our winemaking is traditional, natural and respectful. We use the native yeast that grows on the grapes. Our fermentations are kept cool to preserve the flavors of the vineyards. Everything possible is done to preserve the flavors, not manufacture them. CHAMPAGNE SALON 2008 TASTING EXPERIENCE | AUCKLAND
WHEN: Thursday 20 February 2020 WHERE: TBC Glengarry Wines Auckland TIME: 7.00pm
The mythical Champagne Salon is one of the world's greatest wines. Created by one man, they only make one wine, from one village, one variety, and only ever produced in exceptional vintages. The 2008 is only the 38th vintage to be released since the inaugural 1921. 100% Chardonnay from Les Mesnil-sur-Oger in the heart of the Cote des Blancs, the 2008 is the smallest harvest, and possibly the greatest ever at Salon. Only 8000 Magnums were produced, available to purchase only in the Oenotheque case, along with special late disgorged versions of the 2004, 2006 and 2007. We have special permission to open one just for this event. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to try all four of these wines together. We will also be tasting the stunning new 2012 vintage release from Salon's sister house of Delamotte. Our Fine Wine manager and Salon aficionado, Regan McCaffery, will lead us through the history and stories behind this legendary champagne. Read more...
