EAST IMPERIAL

Back in 1825, British Army officers stationed in India combined quinine, sugar and water in an attempt to create a daily tonic to act as a malaria prophylaxis. Gin was later added to the mix to mask the strong and bitter taste of the quinine water. 189 years on, the quintessential gin and tonic has come a very long way. But not necessarily in a good way. The overly sweet citric acid soft drinks of our time have replaced genuine, traditional tonic water. These modern drinks completely mask the herbaceous aromas of premium gin and other spirits, manipulating the role that tonic water now plays in modern mixology. But the most discerning patrons and barmen are demanding superior quality beverages to complement premium spirits.

That's why East Imperial is a collection curated like no other, with unparalleled quality and taste. After all, you wouldn't put cheap, low quality tires on an Aston Martin. East Imperial's collection is led by our Old World Tonic Water. This signature beverage aims to put the heritage, integrity and authenticity of original tonic water back into your tumbler. Inspired by a 1903 recipe, East Imperial Tonic Waters are small batched and blended using all natural Asian sourced ingredients, New Zealand artesian spring water and a cold filled process. This traditional method of production ensures that the freshness and the subtleties of the botanicals are protected, taking tonic water back to its origins. Read More..

DOMAINE E GUIGAL

Located in Ampuis in the northern Rhone, Guigal are one of the region’s top producers. They boast a wide range of wines, from the generic and dependable Cotes-du-Rhone to the dazzling Cote-Rotie, with many smart expressions in between.

They are proponents of the organic persuasion, with a steady focus on low yields, an abiding love of old vines, and a propensity for pushing out the harvest dates. The Guigal Cote-Rotie wines are always highly sought after and often difficult to procure, none more so than the 2009s, which managed to score themselves a clean 100 points out of 100. Read More..

HENNESSY

The Hennessy cognac distillery was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer serving in the army of Louis XV, a maison that has always kept on innovating and creating to give birth to the world's finest cognacs. The iconic fist clutching a hatchet refers to founder Richard Hennessy's 12-year army career with the French, earning him French citizenship.

YANN FILLIOUX Every day, Yann Fillioux does what his family has done for the past 7 generations: taste and evaluate the eaux-de-vie that will make up some of the best cognacs in the world.

In 1865, Maurice Hennessy, great-grandson of founder Richard Hennessy, decided to create a cognac classification. He used varying numbers of stars to designate different quality, giving rise to Hennessy's Three Star Cognac, today known as V.S. (Very Special). Soon this classification was adopted by the entire industry.

Yann Fillioux has been with Hennessy since 1966, and he is the 7th generation of his family to be with the Maison. Yann ensures that Hennessy cognacs remain true to their timetested bouquet and flavour and finds new blends to delight the world. Using the vast collection of spirits in the Founder's Cellar, Yann's blending expertise along with the other members of the tasting committee have given rise to cognacs with incredible complexity and nuances. WHEN: Thursday 20 February 2020 WHERE: TBC Glengarry Wines Auckland TIME: 7.00pm

The mythical Champagne Salon is one of the world's greatest wines. Created by one man, they only make one wine, from one village, one variety, and only ever produced in exceptional vintages. The 2008 is only the 38th vintage to be released since the inaugural 1921. 100% Chardonnay from Les Mesnil-sur-Oger in the heart of the Cote des Blancs, the 2008 is the smallest harvest, and possibly the greatest ever at Salon. Only 8000 Magnums were produced, available to purchase only in the Oenotheque case, along with special late disgorged versions of the 2004, 2006 and 2007. We have special permission to open one just for this event. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to try all four of these wines together. We will also be tasting the stunning new 2012 vintage release from Salon's sister house of Delamotte. Our Fine Wine manager and Salon aficionado, Regan McCaffery, will lead us through the history and stories behind this legendary champagne. Read more...
