It's a brand new year, so let's leave the trials of 2021 behind as we chase down the treasures ahead
Let's face it, that was an excruciatingly unwieldy year. However, many of us are now heading into 2022 bathed in some sensational weather, equipped with a new set of skills and much more comfortable with a bit of online shopping. While the course ahead is still somewhat uncertain, it has to be said that New Zealand has so far managed to weather the pandemic storm better than many. With our attention having been so singularly diverted by covid, it has been easy to lose track of what we were previously focused on: namely, a more sustainable approach to life within the increasingly threatened biosphere we all call home. At Glengarry we're constantly looking to improve our game, and along with shedding our reliance on unfriendly materials, we are going out of our way to champion the wine, beer and spirit producers – both locally and internationally – who strive to conduct their business with a lighter touch on the planet. They do this in various ways and to varying degrees, but the important thing is that these companies, both large and small, are moving in the right direction, with longterm goals in place to be the best stewards of the environment they can. Over the last 35 years, the Glengarry Wine Academy has established itself as one of NZ's leading wine educators, used by the hospitality industry and wine enthusiasts alike. Informative, but never intimidating, our Wine Academy courses offer a wonderful opportunity for both beginners and experienced aficionados to explore this fascinating world. For the first time, we will be running virtual courses online at the same time as we conduct them inhouse. Those attending the inhouse courses in person will be required to produce a vaccine pass.
STAGE I Stage I is a hands-on course that encourages participants to gain 'wine confidence' by breaking down the intimidation factor and providing a good grounding in the sensory evaluation and perception of wine. The main grape varieties are discussed in detail, with wines from New Zealand and across the globe tasted to highlight the characteristics of the various varieties.
STAGE II Stage II takes a closer look at grape varieties and the way they're interpreted in various parts of the world. Premium and super premium wines will be opened for tasting. It is recommended that participants have completed Stage I beforehand.
STAGE III The third stage of our Wine Academy takes an intensive look at the world's key wine making regions. Stage III dives under the cover, where you learn all about the great wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and many other significant locales.
