HIS spectacular architect’s impression is how Mimiland Park “Canary Water World” could look if the ambitious plan gets off the ground.

The massive attraction would transform an old gravel quarry off the TF-1 in Guimar and would create 1,000 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect ones. It would feature a large entertainment complex and a luxury hotel, as well as dozens of shops, a supermarket and covered car-park for 250 vehicles. There would be thrilling aquatic rides, a massive wave pool, ferris wheel and roller

coaster and possibly even a tower, theatre, nightclub and casino. All this would cost about 96 million euros. The developers say they have enough money to finance the project but now only need the relevant permissions. All the details were formally unveiled at an official presentation in Guimar, attended by members of the local council who are fully behind the idea and other guests. They includ-

ed the promoter Andrés Alonso and the Mayoress of Guimar, Carmen Luisa Castro, as well as project architect Juan Carlos Piñeiro who has designed Mimiland with Irma Piñeiro de Arquiestudio J. C. P. “The politicians can no longer say no to the project,” said Sr. Alonso who thanked the investment company, Hemi and quarry owners, Adolfo and Fulgencio. He also paid tribute to his family and sponsors for their support. Sr. Piñeiro said he and his team had worked very hard to design the project which

was described as “giving a new tourism model for the north and south of Tenerife” and taking Guimar out of the past and into the future. It

would also totally transform the old eyesore quarry pit. Those behind Mimiland insisted it would become a reality and was not a pipe

dream or “utopia” as some critics have said.
