Tenerife gets a new “Costa” Visitors to Tenerife will have a “new” resort to visit in 2016 or a rebranded one at least.

RANADILLA de Abona is preparing to launch its new image under the banner of “Costa Magallanes”. The name has been chosen to honour the great 15th century Portugeuse explorer, Fernando de Magallanes who came to El Médano in 1509.

The council hopes the new brand will strengthen its image abroad and turn the spotlight on the municipality’s 16 kilometres of natural coastline. It will be unveiled at the major tourism fair, Fitur, to be held in Madrid next January. The new promotion will extoll the virtues of Granadilla for culture, education, sports, history, walking, its friendly hotels and its traditional values, as well as being child-friendly and not overly-packed with tourists. “Costa Magallanes” also intends to offer competitive rates and will focus on loyalty from its customers whom, it is hoped, will return time and time again.

FAMOUS ZOO LAUNCHES LEGAL ACTION

Horror deaths as car LORO PARQUE FURIOUS OVER “SMEAR drives wrong way on TF1 CAMPAIGN” A

ORO Parque has once again warned it will take legal action to protect its international reputation after more slurs about the alleged treatment of whales. The world-renowned zoo, which spends millions of euros every year on vital research and breeding programmes all over the globe, has reacted with anger to the latest claims from an animal rights group. The claims made by PETA, People for the Ethical Rights of Animals, made headline news in Spanish newspapers and centre once again on the whale Morgan which Loro Parque helped to save. The Puerto de la Cruz zoo has released a length statement in which it strongly rejects the accusations made by PETA, saying they are “absolutely false and unfounded” and “injures the image and good name of our

zoological institution with the sole purpose of providing visibility to their organisation”. “For this reason, Loro Parque will take appropriate legal action against this entity that undermines Loro Parque’s reputation with lies as an argument and urges journalists and media to see first-hand the state of our orcas and our animals,” the statement continued. Loro Parque says it is totally FALSE that: The orcas have serious health problems, that they are scarred or suffering painful wounds and severe dental trauma. That Morgan the whale has had difficulties in interacting

with the other orcas. That any of the whales are scared or apathetic or manifest signs of psychological disorders. It is also not true that Morgan was captured from the wild. “The reality is that she was rescued in the Netherlands in 2010 by the government. It is also false that she is a suitable candidate for liberation; therefore the collection of donations made by some animal rights organisations for her release is simply fraudulent,” says Loro Parque which meets all the costs because of love for the animal. Morgan, it adds, has severe hearing problems and could be completely deaf so it would be impossible and irresponsible to return her to the wild.

full investigation is underway into a double fatal crash on the TF1 caused when a motorist drove in the wrong direction for six kilometres. He died, together with the man behind the wheel of the car he smashed into on the southbound carriageway near Santa Cruz. Police are trying to find out exactly what happened and why the 39-year-old Spanish man joined the motorway at Radazul. The terrible accident happened at around 7.44pm

on Sunday night and could have led to even more dire consequences. A chilling video taken by a driver on the opposite carriageway was published by a leading Spanish newspaper and clearly shows the Audi TT travelling at some speed on the lane which would have been the fast lane if coming in the right direction.

The car was going completely against the flow of the traffic and eventually crashed head-on into the path of a Citreon C· going the right way. The 62-year-old driver was killed, having no chance whatsoever to avoid the car. The accident happened near the junction with the TF4 and both drivers had to be freed by firemen but were declared dead at the scene.
