NEW GALEON SHOPPING MALL SETS OPENING DATE
Canary government gives T green light to La Tejita hotel?
ENERIFE’S latest ultra-modern shopping mall is to open on July 16th, it has been confirmed. The new centre, to be known as the Centro Commercial Galeon Outlet, will feature 40 stores, 500 free parking spaces and a Hiperdino supermarket.
It is situated in the Galeón district of Adeje town which is accessed off the TF-1 motorway. The new mall is aimed at the five million tourists who come to Tenerife every year, as well as Canary residents. The company behind the multi-million euro project believes it will become the “must” place to visit and will feature the leading names and brands of today’s retail market. These will include the fashion stores of Guess, Punto Roma, Encuentro, Forecast, Shana, Q-Queens, Yeyo Boutique and Geo/Desigual. Also taking space is Fifty Factory (the first outlet store of the Cortefiel group in the Canary Islands with its brands of Cortefiel Woman Secret, Springfield, Pedro del Hierro and Milano) and the Mint Company featuring Hugo Boss, Armani Jeans, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Burberry. There will also be the shoe shops of Via Franca and Walk It, a Sport Zone, home furnishers, hair salon, opticians, Party Fiesta and a Koala pet store. The outlet is generating more than 300 direct jobs in a climate where commercial studies show shopping malls are increasing in popularity because of the appeal of having everything under one roof.

ONTROVERSIAL plans to construct a new five-star hotel close to the beach of La Tejita in El Medano appear to have moved one step closer.
Granadilla council is in favour of the project, saying it will create more wealth and jobs for the area but conservationists fear it will be harmful to the environment. Now, however, the Canary Government is reported to have given the green light in principle to the hotel in the area of Costa Bella in Sotavento. Full permission still needs to be granted but it seems officials are happy that it will not violate the protection and sustainability elements of Spain’s Coastal Act, according to reports in the Spanish press. The Mayor of Granadilla, Jaime González Cejas says the new five-star resort would be a very welcome asset to the area. Opposition is being led by campaigners through a petition on change.org which now
has more than 101,000 signatures. It says: “The main attraction of this natural jewel is the fact that even the hotel industry has not had a hand in the place, so it remains unspoiled and wild. This is because it is located in “the Special Reserve Red Mountain”. The island already enjoys a first class hotel infrastructure to cater to tourists.” “We need to diversify the economy of the island, not to condemn the few visitable natural places.”
