HISTORIC DAY FOR LORO PARQUE GROUP AS
POEMA DEL MAR IS INAUGURATED
S
UNDAY, December 17th was another historic day for the Loro Parque group when the new attraction, the Poema del Mar aquarium was inaugurated at the Sanapú Pier in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The event was attended by more than 500 public and private guests and in the presence of numerous authorities of the highest level. The ceremony was led by the President of the Loro Parque Group, Wolfgang Kiessling; Luis Ibarra, President of the Port Authority; Augusto Hidalgo, Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Antonio Morales, President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria; Carolina Darias, President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands and Fernando Clavijo, President of the Government of the Canar y Islands. All agreed on the magnitude of the Poema del Mar project and the positive impact it will have for the city, the island and the Canary Islands. During the celebration, different performances took place, such as those of the Los Gofiones group with the rhythm of Canarian popular music and that of a group of
actors who gave life to the nature of Poema del Mar with spectacular body makeup, made by the artist Nauzet Afonso and inspired by the work of Néstor de la Torre. In addition, the inauguration was blessed by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Canariensis, Hipólito Cabrera, and the Bishop of the Diocese of Nivariense, Bernardo Álvarez. The large Poema del Mar aquarium is located next to the cruise ship pier and just 200 metres from Las Canteras beach, in the central isthmus of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The building created is one of the most emblematic buildings of the island and the archipelago in general. Poema del Mar is a modern and ambitious project, based on the commitment to innovation, the conservation of biodiversity and excellence in tourism sustainability. Already named “of strategic interest for
the region” by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands, the aquarium reinforces the promotion of the archipelago as a destination for international travel. The hallmark of the company Loro Parque is, in addition to its diversity of species, the quality of its facilities and its respect for the environment. This has made the company worthy of various national and international distinctions, as well as stamps of quality and environmental commitment. Both Loro Parque, the best zoo in the world, and Siam Park, the best water park, according to the users of TripAdvisor, have proven their excellence, so this new Park will not disappoint. Poema del Mar offers a great theme park of the Blue Planet biodiversity, which will have three differentiated areas: marine surface ecosystems, deep marine ecosystems and water species. The facilities will recreate, as accurately as possible, the ecosystems of dozens of species that inhabit both inside and outside the water.
The visitor will begin the tour submerging in the first of the areas, the Jungle, which reproduces landscapes of the entire planet in a tribute to the
five continents. The second section of Poema del Mar, Arrecife, will invite you to a walk around a huge cylinder with a volume of 400,000 litres
of water that exhibits a great variety of colours of coral and fish. Finally, the route will end in the Deep Sea, in the deepest Ocean.
TRAFFIC HOTLINE WANTS YOUR COMPLAINTS
E
MPLOYERS in the construction industry in Tenerife have launched a new “complaints hotline” about the island’s traffic jams after declaring: “Our investments are being stopped on the asphalt!” The organisation FEPECO says complaints are received on a daily basis about gridlocked conditions, both in the north and the south, and wants urgent action. On its website, it has set up a special reporting site where
members of the public can tell them of their complaints and specific problem areas. These comments will then be forwarded to the authorities. “These daily queues are having an impact on the productivity of our compa-
nies,” said president Oscar Izquierdo. FEPECO says it wants to give a voice to members of the public about the traffic “chaos” and feels this will be one of the keys to finding a solution. The hotline is on www.fepeco.org or you can email carreterasdetenerife@fepeco.org
