WINTER CLASSIC
PHILADELPHIA TIMES 1/2/2012
The Winter Classic The winter classic is entering its fifth year. This tradition was started when The Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins took it outside in 2008. This year the rivalries will be taken outside yet again when the New York Rangers face off against the Philadelphia Flyers at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. ET. These two teams have been bitter rivals for more than 50 years. Hockey started outside and we brought that feeling back to the NHL. Mother nature brings many difficulties but it’s always a great day for hockey! The show NHL 24/7 lead us up to this very suspensful moment. This game will take place at Citizens Bank Park.
On the left Hendrik Lundqvist (Rangers) and on the right is Chris Pronger. (Flyers) The NHL Winter Classic is the most exciting part of the NHL season. This is when little boys and girls can watch the bigs stars take the big rink outdoors. The alumni of both the Rangers and Flyers had a game, it was a lot less physical contact. The rangers alumni won 3-1 but the score didn’t really matter in this fun exhibition matchup. In the game today there will be a lot of factors in the game, one will be the wind, the sun, and the crowd. The crowd is going to have almost triple the amount of people watching. Tune in on the NBC Sports Network for this bone crushing battle.

The ice is ready for the game, are the players? The rink was finished three days before game day so people could get a fun skate.
The Winter Wlassic, since i was 6 years old i’ve been dreaming of playing a game outdoors, but the dream hasn’t come true. Im 15, and that wish is still in my mind. Playing a pick up game at the community rink is fun, but to play a rival outside would be a never forgotten experience. I’ve dreamed of being players over the years just like everyone else, but I used to go outside to the pond wear a Wild jersey and think I was the Minnesota Wild playing for the Stanley Cup. The Winter Classic is where you can watch hockey all day. I hope someday the Winter Classic comes to Minnesota and my other dream is to play a real hockey game outdoors. Brad Richards(Rangers) scored the game winning goal against the Flyers Sunday night.
This is a picture of Mike Eruzione scoring the game winning goal in the 1980 Olympics. They went on to the gold medal game to play Sweden. They always got scored on first. When the second and third period came they were unstoppable, beating Sweden for the gold medal.

Lebelle, Lebelle sang the National Anthem. She has sang in many stadium be for this and has sold out many buildings and won two grammy awards. She was still scared to go out and sing in front of 47,000 people in freezing cold weather. Witch she has never sang in that cold of weather. Alumni game Two storylines built headlines in anticipation of alumni game. One was Bernie Parent participating in the game at the age of 66. Parent decided to participate despite his age due to requests by fans. The return of Eric Lindros also grabbed headlines. The Flyers players all wore a small number "10" on top of their shoulders in memory of former Flyers defenseman Brad Mccrimmon , who died in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plan crash earlier in the year.the game ended in a 3-1 Flyers win. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_NHL_Winter_Classic#Alumni_game>
NHL Winter Classic Rink The glycol coolant, which is pumped into the ice trays and provides the base for freezing the water to create the ice surface the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers will skate on when the puck is dropped Jan. 2, runs through hoses from the ice truck to the rink being built on the Citizens Bank Park field. The NHL used 20,000 gallons of water for the ice rink for Monday's game, which marked the second time the Flyers have played in the Winter Classic; they have lost both of those games.Where they are, though, is with a whole different set of issues to deal with regarding the pumps themselves, which will circulate approximately 1,500 gallons of glycol per hour during the ice-making process and all the way through the game. And at 10,000 gallons for one inch of ice -- the playing surface eventually will be at least two inches think. This is the longest connection we've had for a National Hockey League game Craig, who said the usual hose run for an outdoor game has been about 250 feet, with minimal changes in elevation, told
