So, what is gelato? Gelato is the Italian version of ice cream, made with milk, cream, and sugars including nut puree or fresh fruit. But on the plus side, gelato contains less fat than ice cream. Typical ice cream contains 14% butterfat, while gelato contains only 4-8%.
