Aloha, Waimea’s place in Kaua`i’s community and our State is an important one, historically, agriculturally, and culturally. When Captain James Cook and his ships arrived at the mouth of the Waimea River in 1778, Waimea truly became Hawaii`s Original Visitor Destination. As a West Kaua`i boy and a Waimea High School grad, I am deeply rooted in this community. Back in 1982, it was my dad who encouraged me to start my career in government service. This past November, I lost my dad. It’s only natural to hold on even tighter to those memories of my dad and growing up in this community. This event reflects what this community does so well, coming together in a spectacular fashion to support non-profit organizations, schools, hula halaus, canoe clubs, sports teams and
more. It is a celebration of Hawaiian culture and Kaumuali`i, Kaua`i’s last king, and all the things that make us special. My congratulations and thanks to all the organizers of the 43rd Waimea Town Celebration, the participants, vendors, musicians, and everyone who takes part and contributes to these festivities. I’ll be there to join in this tradition of respecting our past and celebrating our future. Mahalo Nui Loa,
Senator Ron Kouchi
Aloha! Welcome to the 2020 Waimea Town Celebration! We all look forward to this annual event as it brings us together in the spirit of family, food, fun, events, culture, and tradition. Many organizations collaborate to bring us this wonderful celebration, and I would like to extend a warm mahalo and aloha to all the sponsors of this celebration and the many community stakeholders and volunteers who work tirelessly each year. I would also like to thank our residents and visitors for supporting
this celebration, which supports our families, local businesses as well as nonprofit community organizations. By coming together for the Waimea Town Celebration, we are contributing, supporting, and continuing annual traditions on Kaua‘i and enhancing our local economy. With Warmest Aloha,
Derek S. K. Kawakami Mayor, County of Kaua‘i
When we gather, we celebrate tradition. Our community makes us who we are. Proudly serving our westside community since 1954. Together, let’s celebrate.

Waimea Town Celebration
Join us for the 43rd annual Waimea Town Celebration FEBRUARY 15 - 23, 2020 The Historic Waimea Theater and Cultural Arts Center (HWTCAC) is proud to host Waimea Town Celebration for its 43rd anniversary. Our non-profit organization is also responsible for the refurbishment and management of the nationally registered Historic Waimea Theater which is more than a movie theater. Waimea Town Celebration raises money for projects like the continued restoration of the Hawaiian Fort at pa‘ula‘ula. Nonprofit organizations and community groups
such as our local schools, hula halau, canoe clubs and sports teams also have the opportunity to raise money, and for many, this is their largest fundraiser for the year. HWTCAC is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide benefits to local worthy charities and non-profit groups by promoting the community of the West Kauai through a quality celebration of heritage, diversity and inclusion of its residents and visitors. Visit our waimeatowncelebration. com for more info and tickets. Rain or shine, join us and become a part of our community tradition!
Ambassador of Aloha and Music Concert This year’s Ambassador of Aloha for 2020 is Bryan Yamase. Brian was born and raised in Waimea. For over 20 years, Brian was responsible in the financial oversight and business development of the seven First Hawaiian Bank branches on Kauai. He has given back his time to the Waimea community through participation in many community projects, such as the building of the Waimea Swimming Pool and supported various youth sports groups in Waimea. Brian is truly a valuable member of our community, giving generously of his time, talent and resources so that we can appreciate our past and look forward to a promising future.
