LIHUE — Credit unions on Kauai are joining other credit unions from around the globe in celebrating International Credit Union Week. The weeklong observance includes International Credit Union Day, which is celebrated on the third Thursday in
October. This year, that date is on Thursday, Oct. 17. During this time local credit unions, including Gather Federal Credit Union, Kauai Federal Credit Union, Garden Island Federal Credit Union, Kauai Teachers Federal Credit Union, McBryde Federal Credit Union and Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union will host
weeklong celebrations for their respective memberships and the public. They will join credit unions around the world to raise awareness about the work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing. Credit unions also take advantage of the observance to educate their memberships about the “Credit Union
Difference” of people helping people philosophy and give credit union members the opportunity to become more engaged. International Credit Union Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences. Credit unions will gather together as a global movement on International Credit Union Day under the theme, “One World Through Cooperative Finance,” demonstrating how the credit union movement brings people closer together through democratic, member-owned financial institutions that put people over profit.
