We ALL have a reason to END ALZHEIMER’S.
What can YOU do to prevent dementia? While doctors cannot guarantee anyone they will not develop Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia, there is research that shows strategies that can lower your risk. Stop smoking - even later in life, smoking cessation decreases your risk of dementia. Exercise daily! This is one of the most powerful things you can do to prevent brain degeneration. Stimulate your mind with new activities and lifelong learning. This is exercise for the brain! Take care of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Work with your doctors to manage these conditions so they don’t damage your brain over time.

Stay connected with friends and family. Social interactions lessen the risk for Alzheimer’s. Isolation and lack of social activity is a strong risk factor for dementia. Treat hearing loss. New studies show that poor hearing causes social isolation and less stimulation for the brain. See a hearing specialist for help. Eat healthy foods and avoid being overweight. What is good for your heart is also good for your head! JOIN THE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S on Kauai! Help us raise money for research for a cure or medication to prevent dementia.
